I lived in Philly for about 10 years before I moved out west, after growing up in Pittsburgh. The Philly fans are the most fair weathered fans I ever knew. Only loyal when their team is winning.
Liberty University students and alumni are accusing the Christian school of violating its own teachings by asking Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints whose adherents are called Mormons, to deliver its 2012 commencement address.
By Friday morning, more than 700 comments had been posted on the school’s Facebook page about the Thursday announcement – a majority of them decidedly against the Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr.’s invitation, citing that the school had taught them Mormonism isn’t part of the Christian faith.
“I can’t support Romney and I am happy I decided not to walk (in the commencement) this year,” wrote student Josh Bergmann. “Liberty University should have gotten a Christian to speak not someone who practices a cult. Shame on you Liberty University.”
Janet Loeffler, a 53-year-old freshman at Liberty, expressed her anger at the decision when contacted by CNN. She also sent a copy of the page of the freshman textbook “The Popular Encyclopedia of Apologetics” which includes the passage, “Mormon doctrine stands in stark contrast to Jewish and Christian monotheism, which teaches that there is only one true God and that every other ‘God’ is a false god.”…
Illinois ranked third while Wisconsin placed 42nd in the most recent Bloomberg Economic Evaluation of States index, which includes personal income, tax revenue and employment. Illinois gained 32,000 jobs in the 12 months ending in February, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found. Wisconsin, where Walker promised to create 250,000 jobs with the help of business-tax breaks, lost 16,900.
At a party meeting in Arizona, RNC members and state GOP chairmen were welcomed into a private reception with Mitt Romney “only after signing a form pledging to support Romney as a delegate to the national convention in Tampa,” CNN reports.
“All three members of Iowa’s conservative RNC delegation… attempted to enter the reception but were rebuffed after refusing to sign the delegate pledge. The dispute became heated in the hallway outside, with the Iowans demanding to know why they had to sign a form to get their picture taken with the former Massachusetts governor.”

Is this an ‘open’ open thread, or just a ‘Pens/Flyers’ open thread? So many things about this blog go over my head.
Just saw a national poll from this February on popularity of states.
Most popular state is Hawaii. Awright way to go, Obama needs to play up that Hawaii homestate mojo, no matter how much the GOP laughs and the pundits pee themselves about nonsense.
On other hand, California, my home state, is by far least popular. In the cellar. 27 favorable 44 unfavorable for a -17 spread.
My feelings are hurt. So, all I have to say to all these jealous people from other dinky primitive states is that
The SHARKS have been doing a great job of rope a dope, The Blues are exhausted. The SHARKS will now rise to CRUSH all their opposition and win the Stanley Cup!
@General Stuck: I don’t know what’s going to happen except that it is all but guaranteed the Republican convention will be every bit as ugly as Rush Limbaugh’s anal cyst.
Albert Pujols should be donating his April paycheck.

Mr Stagger Lee
I am so naive, Nashville leading the series on the Red Wings? Is Jim Jones at the Joe Louis Arena if the Predators win? Meanwhile I am at peace with the fate of the Sharks. One more thing NMA.TV has a cool video about the violence in hockey.

Let’s go Pens!
At first glance it looks like you have dyslexia and are cheering for a schlong.
I think the republican party is more of a train wreck than it appears through the msm prism, and the campaign and RNC convention is going to bring it all to the surface.

@Mr Stagger Lee: No, the Sharks are poised to sweep all before them like dust! Keep the dream alive. Clap your hands! Pray, promise the FSM you will be really good from now on, if only.

@Mr Stagger Lee: These playoffs have done nothing to change my mind that women’s hockey is actually a better game. Where a championship team can play an entire season and pick up exactly one major penalty and even that one was kind of a stretch.
No one smoked or drank on stage during the memorial for Christopher Hitchens, although one overhead picture featured a cigarette drooping from his mouth. And few of the speakers swore, unless quoting from their departed friend.
Were you one of those “stalwart” Pens fans when the team was on the verge of bankruptcy and nearly left town?

@Belafon (formerly anonevent): I had a terrible lapse of judgment and went to Sully’s place to read about Hitch and was greeted by this pleasant passage: ” but most of the material was Hitch’s writing itself. No, they didn’t. While the Pens were accumulating first round draft picks by sucking, their “fans” stayed home in droves.
Mario Lemieux ended up as majority owner because his partners defaulted.
One more fun fact: The Pens deliberately tanked a late season run to gain the rights to Mario.
