I read that ‘Max’ is the most popular dog name in the US.

I like this dog so much more than I like Mitt. Sorry, Couldn’t help myself.

@pk:
I trust him more, too.
Ash Can
So he bounded right up to you and shook himself off, right?
Bob2
Should’ve tied himself on top of a car to get across.

Max is a good goggie. When I was growing up a friend of mine had two Dobermans, they were retired police dogs. Her dad was in the police. I was scared to death of those dogs. To be fair they did not really do anything to scare me. They just looked fierce. Max does not.
Ok now we need a video of Tunch swimming. As a precaution, John should have EMTs on call.

@Ash Can: Of course he did. I think that dogs have that hardwired in the same way that cats leave decapitated mice on the bed.

Smart dog. You can see him thinking as he eyed the spot where he ended up crossing.

I LOVE this dog. Damn it, if I ever get a dog, it will be a Dobie with natural ears. Who is a crybaby. And wickedly photogenic.

Whippet good.

I once took a friend of mine’s Pit Bull on a walk with my dogs. We went along this stream and Max (the Pit Bull’s name) tried to jump on this rock, missed it, hit the water and sunk straight to the bottom (about 8 feet down) and wasn’t coming up. My SO and I looked at each other and howled, that is until I realized Max wasn’t coming up. I jumped in and grabbed him in no time but we were both amazed. With the chest capacity on that dog he sank like a stone and stayed there.
Never took Max on another walk.

@quannlace:
Oddly enough, Min is the least popular dog name.

How is that Max comes right to you? Our malamutes typically ignore us.

@MikeJ:
You get (max-min) points for that.

@Kurzleg: Dobermans do that. They have a bred-in need to be near their people.

Clever Max — my beagles will not go NEAR water. The younger one just looks at me like “oh no — not gonna do this” . We’ve often wondered what would happen if we threw some FOOD in first.

MAXPUPPEH!!
This week has just been bizarre at work. But at least it’s meeting day.

This video looks amazingly like the last time I took my dog to the local millpond. He has not figured out yet that he can actually swim, and tries to pick his way across on rocks, gets caught in shallow but hard currents, etc. Just as I was telling him it was time to go we saw a small herd of minks on the other shore. I quickly clipped his lead on and we just watched them for a while. They bundle together, looking like one larger animal, and then slither apart in different directions. There were 6-8 of them, no way to make an accurate count. It was such a great surprise! My dog didn’t know what to make of them, he’s a mighty squirrel hunter but these rippling bodies just looked alien, he made no attempts to pull.

that dog would look good on the roof of a car!

@Tim F.: BTW shouldn’t that be for the love of dog? :)

Since this thread is technically open, can I ask for some tech geekery advice, on how to watch TV on a Mac? (MacAir or newish MacBook).
Here’s the situation. We’ve been happily TV-less for a couple of years. No money going to Comcast, no high-speed internet (paying for Verizon MiFi dataplans instead), no cable signal, no television in the house. But I wanted to find a good internet source of Olympic coverage and NBC is announcing this wall-to-wall all-event streaming coverage. Only catch? You have to already have cable service and be receiving CNBC and MSNBC in your home.
So I signed up (with Verizon FIOS, not Comcast). And as a side benefit, I’ll have unlimited high-speed internet again. Not really interested in getting back into TV again, but as long as the signal is there… surely just peeking in on a program here or there couldn’t hurt… I can stop any time I want…
Anyway, I still don’t want to invest in a TV. So is there an easy, not too expensive way to view the channels on my Mac instead?

Amy, for the love of god, keep pedaling!

@Randy P:
As a FiOS TV subscriber, you can watch your favorite original programming, TV shows, and the latest movies online, thanks to a growing list of participating networks.
Just sign in to FiOS TV Online with your Verizon user name and password and you can watch on your computer – at home or away – using any broadband connection. You will be able to watch shows from networks that match up with channels you subscribe to based on your current FiOS TV programming package.

That’s right, Max. Every dang person doesn’t have to know how to swim.

By golly, Tim, Max looks like he’s a problem solver. Of course, Doberman’s are among the most intelligent of dogs (at least according to the way humans rate canine intelligence), but what’s up with him not wanting to get wet?
It’s summer, Max, dive in!

To quote you from the other day, Tim: Max is at the top of my “dogs to steal if I can get away with it” list. That is a beautiful puppy you have there.

I had a bad experience with a Dobie bite when I was a kid. As a result, I used to not like them and keep my distance. Only dogs that I’m uncomfortable around, though I can’t say I adore all breeds, mostly because some are so dumb, if you put their brains in a bee, it would fly backwards.*
Max has cured me of that. I love your dog.

My dog Gracie was a shelter dog. They found her on the street in Brooklyn at something around a year old. Early on, we took her for a walk in the woods in a NJ state park. She completely freaked out when confronted by a stream. I had to carry her over.
