Kittehs do sometimes wander, but I hope Inkblot returns swiftly and intact.
He’s almost Tunchesque in stature too.
BGinCHI
I assume you checked with Cole to see if he had weighed Tunch and looked in his carry-on for a Charleston, WV to SNA round trip ticket.
Maude
@Yutsano:
Inkblot runs a close second to Tunch.
The Drums are beside themselves with this.
West of the Cascades
Tunch + shoepolish? Poor missing kitteh!
Ten Bears
Kind of a stunner when you stop and realize that you’ve (I’ve) been looking at pictures of Inkblot for over two-thirds of its life. I’m not a cat person, hell I’m not even a per person, but when I saw that an hour or so ago it tugged at even this Crusty Old Logger’s heart-strings.
4tehlulz
Can Mitt be so stupid as to pick Rick Santorum as his VP?
Developing…
TD
Poor kitteh…isn’t Drum one of the first political bloggers to do the whole “cat blogging” thing? Forgot where I heard that, but if it’s true, a real piece of internet history has gone missing.
In other news, not sure if any of you have been keeping track of the Russian criminal justice system (oh, you mean you don’t follow it? =P), but they’ve jailed the punk group “Pussy Riot” for being vocally anti-Putin. I’ve written about it elsewhere, in case anyone is interested.
SatanicPanic
It figures Drum is from Irvine. Hope he gets his cat back though.
BGinCHI
@Yutsano: “stature” is the politest word I’ve read all day.
burnspbesq
Drum lives in
StepfordIrvine?I had no idea.
BGinCHI
@4tehlulz: Olympic gaffes? Check.
Distraction from Olympic gaffes? Check.
It’s Friday.

@Ten Bears:
Cool handle. Is that a tribute to the real-life Ten Bears?
MikeJ
A white cat with markings that look like my parents fighting.
Yutsano
@BGinCHI: Heh. I never get to use it much. I relish those opportunities.
I’m sick as a dog. And still at work. Yes I’m an idiot.
ERtoo
Team Inkblot. I’m among those keeping the faith…
Chris from Arlington, VA
Well this news just about ruins my weekend. :-(
WereBear
Wow, we were watching the Opening Ceremonies on Canadian TV; it’s like they asked every performer in Britain and 1/3 of them said yes… lotsa dancing.
Lotsa medleys. I loathe medleys.
HinTN
@Yutsano: Shouldn’t that be Tunchian?
Valdivia
Hope he returns, fingers crossed.
Amir Khalid
Now that is a LOT of cat to go missing. I hope that very soon the Drums will find Inkblot walking in as though nothing at all had happened.
I wish to register a complaint. (Said in John Cleese’s dead-parrot sketch voice.) There’s an ad I usually see here (you Americans will never see it) that I find embarrassing. It says across the top, HOW TM SME SOLUTIONS IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS? Malaysian English is usually much better than this.
(TM is Telekom Malaysia. The ad is aimed at small to midsized enterprises.)

Any Uncle Tupelo fans out there?
You may be interested to know that the band members bought back the rights to their first three albums and arranged to have them remastered and pressed on audiophile-quality vinyl. They sound really good.
Raven
@burnspbesq: “Farrar and Tweedy sued Rockville Records and Dutch East India Trading CEO Barry Tenenbaum in 2000 over royalties that the label allegedly owed them, winning reparations from Tenenbaum and the joint rights to Uncle Tupelo’s first three albums. After securing the rights, the band released a compilation entitled 89/93: An Anthology. In 2003, Uncle Tupelo re-issued their first three albums, which before the lawsuit had cumulatively sold over 200,000 copies.[51]”
???
BGinCHI
@burnspbesq: That’s great news. A reason to buy them all over again.
Do you know the Wrinkle Neck Mules?
Give them a try.
Greed Is God
Beautiful cat. Hope he returns soon, Kevin. I know the feeling, as one of our indoor cats went missing for weeks.
Finally caught him in a trap I borrowed from the Feral Cat Foundation – I had given up and was collecting the trap to return it – and he was in there!
gogol's wife
@TD:
Haven’t they been in jail for months? Do you mean they were convicted of something?
ETA: I hope Inkblot returns safely. I know how heart-wrenching this is.
Butch
He couldn’t look more like our Wilson kitty, who we adopted after we found him in our carport one day last January (and we’re way “up nort,” where it gets really cold). Last night we found out what happens when you let a Wilson kitty alone with a vase of alstroemeria flowers.
burnspbesq
@BGinCHI:
Twenty bucks apiece, but completely worth it.
I will look into that.
Looks like Dempsey-to-Liverpool has hit some sort of snag. Sux.
arguingwithsignposts
That’s right. The US – the only first-world nation where you can’t legitimately watch the opening ceremonies. FOAM FINGERS!
TD
@gogol’s wife: They had their *pre-trial* detention period extended another 6 months or so. So, by the time the trial begins (that hasn’t happened yet), they’ll have been in jail for almost a year. It’s pretty shocking.
BGinCHI
@burnspbesq: I have mixed feelings about Clint going there, but I’d like to see it happen. Looks like Chelski got themselves a good young Brazilian.
Otherwise haven’t been following transfers.
Yutsano
@WereBear: Is David Tennant dancing around somewhere? I know Matt Smith got to do part of the torch reelay. Which was cool.
gogol's wife
@TD:
A friend from Moscow was just visiting for two weeks, and she said that the sympathy for them was growing every day among the populace, which wasn’t too well-disposed toward them at first. This is really ridiculous. I don’t see what the government expects to accomplish. But that’s Russia for you.
schrodinger's cat
Tunchesque kitteh is Tunchesque. I hope they find him soon.
BTW Balloon Juice’s favoritest blogger thinks Obama is going to lose.
WereBear
@Yutsano: Mr WereBear didn’t see any Dr Who stuff… how can that be?
A picture of Basil Fawlty
They did have approximately 100 Mary Poppins. And the new James Bond.
the Conster
@Greed Is God:
The cat traps are working.
TD
@gogol’s wife: Yeah, and the conviction rate in Russia is so, so high, that absent overwhelming political pressure, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that they will be locked up for the full seven years.
Valdivia
@BGinCHI:
been meaning to tell you how much your WTSO rec improved my libations situation. A hearty hearty thanks.
BGinCHI
@Valdivia: Glad to hear it!
And I’ve been meaning to recommend (to you and Steeplejack and a few others) the novel HHhH by Laurent Binet.
It’s a very smart, and terrifically entertaining, book about WWII and the writing of history and so much else. Check it out.
Valdivia
@BGinCHI:
Thank you! I also have a rec for you, a book I picked up last year but only read now: In Free Fall by Juli Zeh. Totally worth the read. I would call it an existential kind of thriller, but that misses the essence of it.
BGinCHI
@Valdivia: Mille grazie. Will check it out.

@arguingwithsignposts: i’m sure NBC will let us see it all in its entirety, chock full of interesting commercials and fun filler features instead of actually letting us decide that watching the ceremony itself is interesting enough, after all, the brits have been planning this for half a decade, it’s sure to have lots of lulls and boring stuff in it, else why would they sell all those tickets?
Yutsano
@WereBear: They may be saving the Doctor Who stuff for the closing ceremonies. After all the Canuckistanis rolled out the giant beavers then.
Hal
@4tehlulz:
Oh god, this again? Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I could swear this is the third time Romney’s fucked something up and tried the “Hey look over here! I’m picking a VP!!” move.
What’s he going to do when he fucks up after he’s picked his VP and has nothing to distract people with?
LanceThruster
Adorable looking cat, hope it returns soon.
Great “wishing someone to the cornfield’ stare.
NotMax
Just a tidbit on Ann Romney’s easy use of stereotypes for ‘humor’ that helps flesh out her complacent “you people” attitude.
Keith G
I’ve been watching Ink Blot grow up (and out) for well over a decade. He better come back soon.

I used to live in Irvine. If a small pet goes missing for multiple days, it’s a good bet a coyote got it. Sad, but unavoidable in these parts.
NineJean
@Butch: Your kitty is in my prayers tonight, along with Inkblot.
A lily by any other name is still a lily, and poisonious to a cat. I learned that the hard way as well, more than a decade ago…
For more than forty years now, I’ve always liked to keep fresh flowers around the house, makes the place look nice & feel homey. But these days, the only flowers I’ll have are the ones I’d be willing to eat, because I know my pets will eat them.
CatHairEverywhere
I hope Inkblot returns safely! I would encourage Drum to go door-to-door and ask if anyone has patched any attic holes recently. My cat Onyx went missing 2x in a year and both times he was stuck in someone’s attic because the person patched a hole. He is an awfully lucky cat because the first time, the owner saw him before closing the hole, put up a cat trap and responded to my missing poster. (Onyx refused to go into the trap, so I had to climb up there and drag him out) The second time he went missing, I went door-to-door and when a neighbor behind us mentioned that her husband had patched the attic access the same day Onyx went missing, I begged to be allowed up there to look, because I was sure that was where he was. The neighbor did not believe me at first because Onyx hadn’t been meowing (he was terrified) but grudgingly let me put food and water up there. They called the next day and told me that they heard him meowing and the food was gone. It took another 1 1/2 days to get him out. The neighbor finally opened back up the hole, (he was sick of having us over there putting our heads into the crawlspace and calling for Onyx) Onyx bolted home about 10 mins. later and Mr. CatHairEverywhere went over and helped the neighbor re-patch the attic.
Cats often get stuck in sheds and attics
Steeplejack
@the Conster:
That is funny.
Steeplejack
@BGinCHI:
Will do.
Elizabelle
@CatHairEverywhere:
Oh, I hope it is something like that and Inkblot gets home soon.
Please, please, please.
Martin
Fuck, I swear to god that cat was in my yard last night. My corgi chased it out.
Never seen a cat in the yard before, and it was white with a dark patch on his face – but it was dark out and I didn’t get a great look.
Arclite
@maye:
Yeah, I visit Irvine for business several times a year, and stay with my uncle. I go jogging every morning and often see coyotes. There were three blocking my path one morning, and they just nonchalantly trotted out of the way and watched me. Pretty used to living among people.
Does anyone know whereabouts in Irvine? It’s a big town.
Elizabelle
@Martin:
Would be so awesome if that was Inkblot, and he’s still about.
It’s been encouraging to see so many suggestions about pets trapped in garages and hiding nearby.
Hoping Inkblot turns up fine and healthy.
Please keep us posted.
Triassic Sands
@maye:
Sadly, you were right.
For anyone checking this thread who hasn’t heard — Inkblot did not make it home — Kevin says it looks like a coyote got him (a neighbor called with the location of the body).
