From commentor Muddy:
I had planned to foster this dog here in the country until another home can be found. He seems like he would have been a good addition to my crew, and I would adopt him except that I have had some really serious health issues recently, and have been advised not to take anything else on right now. I just this week handed over a cat that I have been fostering for my niece for 8 months (it was advertised as a matter of weeks) and this cat had the whole house in an uproar the whole time. So, I offered at least to pass this on here, he’s a great dog.
This is what his owner wrote me:
Thank you for taking an interest in Axle. We got him from the Humane Society in Middlebury about 2 years ago, and to the best of our knowledge, he’ll be 3 years old this fall. He weighs 53lbs, with a very slim and athletic physique, loves to run and swim, as well as tussle with other dogs and people. He gets along with other dogs but he really loves being around people. He’s great with small kids as well; we’ve seen young toddlers and babies tug at his ears and tail and he just acted super gentle with them.
He’s very healthy and sociable, completely house trained, leash trained, and knows all basic commands. He’s the smartest dog we’ve ever known. Even though he adjusted to NYC, we realized it wasn’t the best environment for an active dog and he’s happiest when he’s running through the fields and woods and swimming in creeks and ponds.
Axle is likely a German shepherd and pit bull mix. He’s playful and loyal, loves to play tug and cuddle. We’ve been feeding him home prepared meals with the occasional kibble, so he’s used to eating a wide variety of food. He’s the only dog I know who’s just as happy to get a carrot as a treat as a piece of bacon. He’s gotten along with all kinds of animals, including a big parrot that lives the down the block from us. He’s not crazy about cats, but he’s not been aggressive towards any cats. Mostly he just looks at them weirdly but he’ll leave them alone when told to. The one thing to watch out for is he gets really excited about motorcycles and tends to chase them.
I can’t emphasize enough how great of a dog he is.
This info is passed forward by commenter Muddy, I’m kind of pouting that I can’t have him.

PUPPEH!!
Sweet looking boy too. I am way too far to help however. We have quite a few NE BJers though.
(That sounded dirtier than I intended. Oh well.)

I’m in Mass and I might be interested if he’s truly okay with cats. I would have to make sure he clicks well with my other dog, a large 3yr-old male who generally likes other dogs, but occasionally has issues with other large males. I would also have to check with my housemate to be sure I’m not overwhelming her with fur…

Realistically, though, my cat would never forgive me…better put my name in the “last resort” column.

I am ALWAYS and wisely, I think, leery of any PB genes in a dog, but my gosh this guy is so handsome and sounds like a dream to live with. and play with.

Dag namit! I’d scoop him up in sec. That face tells it all.
