Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Optimism opens the door to great things.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

“Alexa, change the president.”

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

I see headlines like this: “Revenge of the Soccer Moms: Why Are Women Abandoning Obama?” and I wonder if the MSM and headline writers are finally getting some revenge on DougJ.

Maybe he’s decided to make some additional money moonlighting as a headline writer?

I’m pretty sure everyone in that article is DougJ. Also, I submit this, without comment.

Headlines and articles like that seem to me to be, in my favorite military euphemism, a target-rich environment.

It’s been a little over a week, so I’m going to do some light spamming again. On Feb 2, 2013 I’ll be taking part in the Fight for Air Climb in Jacksonville, FL. My Firefighting class is required by our Chief to do a community service project to remind and reinforce the idea that Firefighters are public servants and role models; personally, I agree with that sentiment. I don’t have a personal connection to lung cancer, or any cancer really, other than my continual struggle to quit smoking.

So, your donation, if you’re willing, either contributes money to that particular cause or buys you a small piece of my misery. I’ll be climbing 42 stories up in full bunker gear and air pack (roughly 30lbs). If you can or feel like it, please donate. I’ve already met my goal thanks to some very generous individuals. At this point it’s become a bit of a competition between classmates (I’m 3rd place) and to see if we can get our team into 1st (currently 2nd).

“Women are abandoning Obama” because the horse race narrative demands it.

What is actually happening is secondary to sustaining the horse race narrative. Infotainment, people! Infotainment!

I must be missing something – people here think DougJ trolls?

I find it hard to believe that such an Astute Political Observer as DougJ would do such a thing.

That’s almost as ridiculous as suggesting that Mitt Romney lacks integrity, or that William Kristol’s judgment is suspect. So quit yanking my chain.

Never mind, of course, that there really isn’t much evidence that the gender gap has disappeared. The new CBS/Quinnipiac Ohio Poll released this morning has women favoring Obama over Romney by 15 points, for example. It really does matter where pollsters are seeing this “narrowing gender gap”, doesn’t it?

But, you know, doesn’t fit the “narrative.” This election really needs to be over already.

Ugh, Yahoo News. The only thing worse than a Yahoo News item is the virulently rascist, sexist and wingnut comments the same news item collects. I have a very well established Yahoo account that I use for my store & professional society memberships and I cringe at ever time I make the mistake of reading a news item on the home page. If the commenters at Yahoo News were the majority view, the world would be a mashed up version of Pink Floyd’s The Wall and a Nancy Grace rally.

“I just haven’t been satisfied with Obama the last four years,” Bonilla said. She voted for John McCain in 2008, but this year she hasn’t made up her mind. “My husband’s going for Romney, but I’m still not sure,” she said.

How can you abandon Obama if you were never with him in the first place?
