Hillary is such a loser for coming out for Gay Marriage now. How can you people support a President who had her in his cabinet?

Since it’s an OT, I’ll open the Mac wars again and ask if anyone has a recommendation for a good mail program for Mac. I’m not a big fan of Apple Mail or Thunderbird, but I haven’t seen any good alternatives to either. Should I just do what all of the kool kids are doing now and do everything in the cloud?

we are having the most annoying winter ever. Actually, back in ’94 we got a huge snowfall in early April and then it rained heavily and the melt flooded our basement. So that was pretty annoying too.

There’s this anime I’m really enjoying on Hulu called Robotics;Notes. It kind of starts out as a comedy/drama about school life, then crazy stuff starts happening. What really stuck me though, is that in the middle of all the genre craziness are the moments of genuine tenderness. There’s this other funny one called Girls und Panzer, set in an alternate world where it’s considered especially ladylike for girls to develop true poise by being tank commanders (men are not allowed to drive tanks), and the story is set in one of these tank clubs.

I gather Friedman has written another column imploring Obama to, at long last, reach out to Republicans by adopting the policies Obama has been a advocating for years. I thought Friedman might actually become useful when he started advocating for green policies, but his chief priority is still both-sides-do-it, and that’s the Democrats fault.

@The Dangerman: Yeah, that was pretty much my thought, too. Who knows, maybe Tim Tebow wouldn’t put out for Lindsey (‘cuz the bible says that would be wrong). I know David Duchovney claimed to be a sex addict. Did Woods claim as much, or is her a garden-variety horndog? Was he sorry for what he did or just sorry that he got caught, lost millions in endorsement dollars, and had to put up with the questions of journalists who were so clearly beneath him?

Just wanted to thank all the wonderful commentors who gave me tips yesterday of how to deal with my toe. I was seen by a doctor who confirmed the nail was kicked right off the nail bed (yuck!) so it’s wrapped for now until I am seen by podiatrist on Thirsday. Oh and I’m also on antibiotics to prevent infection.
And because the day is just not a good one: we had to put our 16 year old red tabby to sleep today. He had been sick for a while and this weekend he just curled up into a ball and didn’t move at all. So sad. He will be sorely missed. You enriched our life Jinvah!

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: I sort of assumed Lindsey Vonn was a virgin for Jeebus, too, when I heard she was “seeing” Tim Tebow, but perhaps we were misinformed.
I don’t think I’ve heard any new John Meyer material since that really big album hit half a dozen years ago. Honestly though, I tend to listen mostly to NPR (with all its faults) or ambient music. Indeed, right now I have on Steven Roach while a Nag Champa incense stick burns away and I review student essays. What an exciting life I do lead….

Has anybody heard of the flap about Satan in the History Channel’s Bible series looking like Obama? Forget the Obama angle for a minute and look at the cast of this thing. Notice that most of them are beautiful caucasians, whereas Satan is portrayed by an actual, muslimy middle-easterner. Think they could have made it any more obvious?

Just learned via Kos that Michelle Shocked launched an anti-gay tirade during a concert in San Francisco. Audience apparently walked out. Such a … shock. She was a lefty progressive (in her own words) “skateboard punk rocker,” but she got born again a few years ago and I guess it led to this. “Anchorage,” “I’ve Come a Long Way,” “Graffiti Limbo” … never be able to listen to them the same way again.
Just a couple of years ago she did a couple of small benefit concerts for the progressive non-profit my wife works for, and after one of the shows we talked to her for a few minutes. She was intense, sincere, incredibly nice. I’m totally pole-axed by this. She had mental health problems in her youth, so maybe …
But I’m probably giving her too much benefit of not much doubt.

My home was burgled last Thursday while I was at work. It was a sloppy thief, but s/he took enough. @schrodinger’s cat: Yes, under the neighbor’s trailer as best we can determine.
West of the Rockies
@geg6: Hi, geg6… Omnes Omnibus answered your question a few comments after you made yours, so you now know who Vonn is. My wife and I reconnected our TV just for the Winter Olympics so our daughter (then 9) could enjoy the spectacle and a bit of grrrrrl power. Vonn was pretty indominatable; her fierce competitive spirit was inspiring. Seeing her now hanging with Woods sort of tarnishes her stature (at least in my mind).
I had a friend whose opinion and honesty I valued. She said she was at a party and was standing and chatting with another guest. She said Woods was at the party and came passing through the doorway where my friend stood. Woods’ bodyguards (or flunkies or entourage) came barrelling through, knocked my friend to the floor, and Woods flowed by. He didn’t even deign to glance down at her. For that reason and all the stories I’ve heard since, I’ve never liked or respected Woods.
And this is perhaps an eccentric observation, but I also wish he would completely close his mouth; why is his goddamned mouth always perpetually open? I don’t like the mouth-breather look.
