So About Black Privilege …

This post is in: This Week In Blackness

FacebookTweetEmail

So over at This Week in Blackness we talk a lot about white privilege. Hell, I did a video on it when TWiB! first started–but have you had your mind expanded to learn about black privilege?

StarwarLOL012 StarwarLOL015

If you read these posts and you’re thinking to yourself “Yeah! What’s up with that Negroes?” Please don’t say that out loud. Just come over and talk with us–perhaps listen to today’s show–and we can explain why this is so completely fucked…er…problematic.

On today’s #TWiBRadio we discuss what “black privilege” looks like on the black hand side, why there’s never  too much penis in Washington, and President Obama’s zingers at the White House Correspondent’s dinner. Listen here:

And on #amTWiB, political strategist L. Joy Williams and the morning crew of blackness (why are they ‘of blackness?’ Cause…well, um…your face.) discusses the Pennsylvania town where domestic abuse victims may face eviction, black voters turnout surpassing whites in 2012, and being on the brink of a cure for AIDS.

Please tell me that “50% of the news” item isn’t counting stories about the President.

@Baud: Wouldn’t half the news about the President count as white people news?

    This shit is hard.

And can some brown person explain to me why carne is feminine and pollo is masculine? That’s counterintuitive from a carnivore point of view.

Making pollo asado on the grill… om nom nom.

I estimate that 67.1256% of the news is about Onions. Or maybe The Onion. Some say it’s even closer to 100%!

Yeah, when a black guy tries to show his wallet to a police officer, they give him free bullets! Usually, they empty their own guns – all from a sense of giving blacks their traditional privilege of an early admission to heaven! Why don’t rich white guys get that same treatment?

Um, last time I checked, it was perfectly possible for a white person to be considered a member of a protected class if he was replaced by a non-white or was treated differently than non-whites, so that first bit is just a flat-out ignorant lie. The “50% of all news” bit is just so preposterous that it’s got to be trolling.

@Citizen Alan: Right, you have to be either willfully ignorant or have been intentionally misled to not understand how “bias-motivated crimes” (aka “hate crimes”) work. Crimes committed in order to punish/send a message to people of a certain classification by targeting a perceived* member of said classification.

*I don’t remember the numbers, but a significant percentage of gay-bashing victims are not, in fact, gay. It’s still a “hate crime” because the perpetrators thought they were.

I just had a straight guy explain to me that it is easy to be gay in America.

I asked him about the case in MO where the hospital was allowed to overrule the guy’s power of attorney because they have a “religious or moral beliefs” exemption.

His answer was that gays can just build their own hospitals then.

    See how easy that is?

OK, this is one of those blog things that is way over my head. Is this Black Privilege blog a spoof?

I have black friends who have talked about how all sorts of people have been oppressed, even… white people, at some times and some places. I guess I hang out with crazy black people.

Whoever runs this blog said he got the idea from a blog run by a Woman of Color (a WoC, I think is the recommended acronym). So I followed the link and read:

” With that said, there are also instances of Asian, Latino and black privilege. Though not as vast or lucrative, and often stemming from racist stereotypes, black privileges are proof that negativity can work in your favor. ”

Um, OK, I see what she is saying. I think whoever WoC wrote that knows that she is not talking about any kind of standard issue traditional privilege the average white person would be interested in. But what does that have to do with crazy hallucinations like ‘blacks make up 50% of the news”?

Sure that site is not some spoof?

Edit: What’s Chappelle doing these days? Maybe he’s running some subtle gag.

“Black privilege is being irritated by blogs like [Black Privilege].

I am puzzled by it, and wonder what kind of nincompoop put it together, if it’s not a spoof. So is that an example of straight out ‘black privilege’, or maybe just ‘black benefit of the doubt’? Maybe I’ll submit that question and that weirdo blog will enlighten me.
