Friday Night Open Thread

What are we doing tonight? I’m so unprepared for a Friday night I’m just sitting here watching the Pirates lose to the Reds. Walt is sick, the Ills are awol, and have not heard from the Deal’s or Holly or Harry and Chatman, so looks like it’s you and me, folks. My brother is in town and we watched the game for a bit, but he had to go home and put the dogs in their crates.

I guess Bill Maher is on at ten. Anything else happening? The sports scene is just dead.

    Amaretto is good for 2 things.

    1) flavoring icing

    2) if you put some into a beer (depends on the brand and size of the beer, but usually pouring in somewhere around a pony of amaretto will do), it rather surprisingly makes it taste exactly like cream soda.

    On quite another note, I see that Luis Suarez has been making come-get-me eyes at Real Madrid. This when he is only four matches into a ten-match suspension for biting an opponent in a Premier League match. If he goes, I say good riddance; his behaviour on the pitch has been a stain on Liverpool’s good name. And his complaining about well-deserved criticism from the media is childish.

A tornado formed directly over the Lowe’s in Moore, about 200 yards south of where the May 20 tornado crossed I-35 and then moved east-south-east through Moore and into Norman. It was EF-1/EF-2 last I heard. Straight line winds turned over several cars and motor homes and relief trailers at 4th street and I-35 in Moore.

    @lamh35:

    I liked it, but it seriously was one of the worst-marketed films I’ve ever seen. I had no idea until about 15 minutes in that it was a comedy — all of the ads sold it as a straight sci-fi.

    One of my favorite underrated movies is The Frighteners (from a post-Heavenly Creatures but pre-LOTR Peter Jackson). It starts off as a comedy and turns into a supernatural thriller. There’s a plot twist about three-quarters of the way in that makes you wonder how the fuck they’re going to get out of the trap they’re in, but the writers make it work.

    It’s too bad that Jeffrey Coombs got trapped in B-horror movies years ago, because he steals the film away from Michael J. Fox like it was nothin’.

    Also, if DEET isn’t working for you, try picaridin. It’s been used in Europe for years and was only recently approved for use here. Plus it won’t melt your stuff like DEET does. It works great for some people and doesn’t work at all for others, so it’s worth a try.

And this week, after a month of steady Obama bashing, they did a puff piece interview with GWB.
