If you’re there, Betty Cracker, I will be field-testing my homemade 3D clip-ons sometime in the next few days, when I see The Amazing Spiderman 2. Stay tuned.
From time to time, there have been reports of ambulance-chasing lawyers from America showing up in here in Kuala Lumpur and in Beijing to invite the families of MH370 passengers to join in lawsuits, particularly against MAS and Boeing. A Chicago firm, Ribbeck Law Chartered, has been particularly active here, even holding a press conference in KL at one point. Some of these reports note that the more aggressive solicitations would be illegal in the US.
Could one of the several American lawyers among the Juicitariat tell me if this would open the lawyers to charges of professional misconduct in the US, or does what happens overseas stay overseas?

Hmm. I called Snowden an intelligence asset on a mission to embarrass Obama a long time ago. I suspect he’s working for Germany. If he were working for Russia he wouldn’t publicly snuggle up with Putin. He probably wouldn’t be in Russia at all.
Despite all the NATO tough talk, I suspect that the EU has more in common with Russia and its oil than it does with the US. The US may find itself alone on this crusade. That offers the US two choices: settle now or settle later.

Orange is the New Black Season 2 trailer! [caution: Slate link]
@Amir Khalid: I will await your report with great interest! That will probably be the next movie I’ll have occasion to use such glasses to view as well.
So, no FP post on Oklahoma making it illegal to raise the minimum wage? They also made it illegal to require paid sick and vacation days.
This seems like a very new front on anti-labor efforts from Republicans.
Conservatives love local control and the democracy of the commons, except when they don’t.

Can it be said that the volume of support that Bundy asshole actually seems to be getting for (especially the ‘for’ part, rather than a ‘despite of’) essentially being a squatter and a paranoid militia nut makes me loathe my own home country more and more? I mean…really, people? Fucking really? You’re lionizing this asshole because ‘ANY GOV’T WORST TYRANNY EVARRR!!’? We really have that many fucking secessionist, sovereign citizen fantasizers and sympathizers willing to go on record with this shit?
Fuck all.

@Botsplainer: You know it’s based on a true story, right?
spent this morning trying to explain on FB to a veteran buddy of mine that this article by the duffelblog is satire and that there is no bill in congress with the initialization of F.U.C.K.V.E.T.S. His mom jumped in (my buddy is in his 40’s) and said that it doesn’t matter whether it’s true or not because it could be true because of spiteful libtards. Mom’s onto benghazi now.
it doesn’t matter whether it’s true or not because it could be true because of spiteful libtards.
Boom. That’s the teabilly mentality right there in a nutshell. Facts don’t matter, evidence doesn’t matter. All that matters is what they think the “bad guys” MIGHT do.
@Paul in KY: awesome! I saw them prolly 10 to 12 yrs ago and it was a great show.
@RedKitten: might as well face it, they’re addicted to strawmen.

Anyone else here read Kevin Drum? I do. I have a problem with the comments section there though. Seems every time a good thread comes up with something juicy, invariably one of Kevin’s trolls says something dumb and then the entire rest of the comments is people arguing with the trollish statement rather than discussing the thread’s subject. Drives me fracking nutz. I’ve asked there several times why spend all your energies on trollish behaviour (interacting with trolls on the trolls framing & level) and I am then called a troll by the ‘sensible liberals’ there.
I just don’t get it.

The lawyer who argued in support of Prop 8, a guy by the name of Cooper, is evolving on the issue of gay marriage. Seems his daughter has come out as gay and is planning on marrying her partner in Mass. Suddenly the issue has a face and he is evolving.

@SiubhanDuinne: Unfortunately, in a place like Donetsk, what will likely happen is that the pro-Russians will believe that those leaflets are a provocation engineered by pro-Ukrainians to smear Russia and the pro-Russians by alleging they are anti-Semitic. And the pro-Ukrainians will believe it’s a provocation engineered by Russians or pro-Russians to smear the pro-Ukrainians by alleging that they were behind the provocation.

@Gin & Tonic: So, both sides will attack the Jews?
It says the reason is because the leaders of the Jewish community of Ukraine supported Bendery Junta, a reference to Stepan Bandera, the leader of the Ukrainian nationalist movement that fought for Ukrainian independence at the end of World War II, “and oppose the pro-Slavic People’s Republic of Donetsk,” a name adopted by the militant leadership.
Well, obviously this can’t be true, because as Bob in Portland has told us over and over again, Bandera’s supporters were all Nazis, so it’s unpossible that any Jewish people could have supported him for Ukranian independence.
Unless, of course, it’s what the rest of us have been saying the whole time, that there are anti-Semites on both the Russian and Ukranian side. Nah, it couldn’t be that, because then Bob’s black-and-white vision of Russians Good, US Bad might be in jeopardy.
@catclub: Neither “side” will. This was pretty clearly a crude provocation, by person or persons unknown. While Twitter and the press have been on fire about it, the diplomats (I’m looking at you, Kerry) should have been smart enough to see that and keep their yaps shut. It’s like issuing an official press release to respond to something on Drudge.
The Pro-Russian forces are denying it’s from them, apparently with some credibility. It may well be from some kind of agitator, though whether they’re pro-Ukrainian hoping to make the Russians look bad or just anti-Semites trying to take advantage of the situation is unclear.

I saw a 1 foot tall “pissing Calvin-look-alike” sticker in the back window of a pick-em-up truck today, but what it was pissing on was the word “liberals”. Gotta love that subtle winger sense of humor. It was right next to an equally large one for a local high end snowboard manufacturer, so not all boarders are dope smoking hippie types (in case you were wondering about how well calibrated your stereotypes are).
Went for a 3 hour walk from home to town, post office, library, and then home again; such a gorgeous day but now I have the post-walk&sunshine sleepies.
