Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“woke” is the new caravan.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

White supremacy is terrorism.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Goddamn, what the fuck is wrong with Roger Goodell’s thinking? 2-game suspension for Ray Rice clocking his then-fiancee cold in an elevator?

This is why I really, really find it hard to get worked up about sports – it’s mostly filled with people who are underdeveloped from a maturity standpoint and are earning way too much money for being in good shape. I hate sports reporters even more, because it really seems to take zero talent to write the fawning paeans that those shits get paid to spit out daily.

Stephen A. Smith should get banned by ESPN for those really stupid-ass comments he made, but they probably don’t care because attention = viewers = $$$. How fucked up is that?

To me, this just reveals what a sham the whole monthlong breast cancer awareness shtick in the NFL is about – MONEY. They couldn’t give two damns about it; they just want more fans, and there are less females who are fans of the NFL than men. Can’t imagine that will improve with a fucking 2-game suspension for a little domestic violence. You get twice as much if you get caught with a baggie.

    Totally fucked up.

Hmmmm. So instead of “what would we do if Mexico were launching missiles at us”, the question would be what would we do if Mexico decided to form a government with Cuba.

@Suffern ACE: I’m in NY, and I am going to be busy as hell. Visiting our wedding venue due to a last-minute change in event coordinator, going to a friend’s birthday brunch in LES, then meeting a prospective wedding officiant in West Village. That’ll be my day from 8 AM-4 PM or so. Maybe once I get home, I can think about putting together an e-vite for second-tier wedding guests, as well as packing to move out.

I’m going to be very happy once I get on a plane after the wedding and leave for 3 weeks. Until then, the weekends are not going to feel like a break from work at all…if anything, it’s more stressful.

For those of you that like reading online comics (there are some good ones out there) might I recommend one I just discovered called Broodhollow? It’s like if Peanuts shacked up with a Lovecraftian horror. Story telling and art are both superb. Check it out if you can.

    @Suffern ACE:
This is about what I thought. If Hamas had kidnapped a few Israeli teenagers, their established pattern would be to keep them as hostages and try to use them as leverage for the release of Hamas prisoners held by Israel. They wouldn’t keep it secret, and they wouldn’t kill them. This was obvious to me and should have been obvious to anyone who has paid even cursory attention to events in Israel, a group one would hope would include senior members of Likud. The government was blaming Hamas because they wanted to blame Hamas, not because there was a shred of evidence pointing in that direction.

The final sentence of Zinn’s column in The Nation linked above:

They (the pink “breast cancer awareness” jerseys) are symbols of a monstrous joke that sees women as either revenue streams, cheerleaders or collateral damage to what takes place on the field.

Well isn’t it always in this Ferengi culture of ours about the revenue stream? At all times? No other value even comes close to the reverence paid to the almighty dollar?

Yes. When a thread is really active, I can reply to somebody else’s comment, and by the time I’m done writing it, there will be enough new comments to find something else worth replying to. Lather, rinse, repeat. When the posting is slower, like it is right now, I’ll hit F5 to refresh once in a while to see if there’s anything new to respond to, or any new posts to read.

    @Jose Arcadio Buendía:

Hamas starting missile attacks was a response to operation Brother’s Keeper, which included the arrest of a Hamas members in the West Bank and incursions into Gaza.

But you knew that. Look around, Israel is rapidly running out of friends as a result of this latest round of “mowing the lawn.” And that incredibly fucked up and wrong on several levels moniker is used by the Israel officials themselves. For fuck’s sake the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, Moshe Feiglin is proposing ethnic cleansing as a solution in Gaza. Not sure why anyone who wasn’t actually an Israeli would want to go to bat for Israel anymore. But, have at her, chief.
