Possible new strategy being floated in internal Jeb circles: abandon Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, use Nevada as a springboard into a better than expected showing on super Tuesday (the Bush name is key in Texas), then go “all in” on Florida and Ohio. After that it’s winner-take-all, and the delegate math just plain adds up for Jeb.
Not a final decision, but the campaign is beginning to think in that direction.
Why would Jeb even need the small, early primaries? He’s got the money and name power to stay more than afloat until the Big Boys vote in March and April. It’s really a revolutionary strategy, only one a Bush could pursue.
Donor feedback is being solicited via a media trial balloon in the WaPo:
Emphasis mine.
Trump may turn out to be not another Reagan, but a metaphorical Napoleon, while Bush strategically retreats to fight another day, but ends up marching into Cleveland.

It was very much a Westside thing — there used to be one next to the Nuart. Then they got bought up in the initial 1990s internet bubble and almost went down for the count once their new parent company went belly up. I was a little surprised to see them back in business under their original name, but I guess there’s always a market for booze delivery.

A local TV station used to show old episodes of the Western “Have Gun, Will Travel.” I also used to listen to some old radio broadcasts on my drive home when I worked evenings. I wasn’t of the generation that watched the show when it was first on TV but like some tough-minded Westerns. And Paladin used his brain more than his weapons, so no necessary gun play fetish.
I recently discovered a treasure trove of full episodes on YouTube. I will watch a bunch while I am puttering around the house tonight. An episode with a young Charles Bronson was very interesting. Another was based on an award winning script by this guy named Gene Roddenberry. Did he ever do anything else later on in his career?
The news today has been too sad. And some of the commentary has been either pointless or futile or premature guessing about every freaking detail that people know nothing about.

You may not like it but a lot of folks simply read this as Trump not taking crap from the media elites. And they saw Trump as being bullied by a reporter who insisted on lecturing him about undocumented workers, not a good or objective journalist.

Also he’s far too articulate and not nearly angry enough to be a true conservatroll. Even interns honing their trolling skills would be off cutting their teeth at somewhere like the Cleveland Plain Dealer rather than hanging around this place. …………….
Dear Republicans: You could have avoided this whole Donald Trump disaster
by Greg Sargent August 25
The consensus among many of our wisest political observers is that
Trump-ism is a real phenomenon, that it’s here to stay for the near
future, and that it may pose a real long-term risk to the GOP. In a
piece entitled, “Can the Republican Party survive Donald Trump?” Molly Ball reports that GOP donors and strategists are fretting that Trump has exposed the GOP’s “fault lines” on immigration in ways that could do the party untold damage in 2016.
And Time magazine reports that GOP pollster Frank Luntz held a focus group designed to plumb the sources of Trump’s appeal, and left stunned. “You guys understand how significant this is?” Luntz said afterwards. “This is real. I’m having trouble processing it. Like, my legs are shaking.”
So here’s a friendly reminder: this whole Trump mess probably could have been avoided. If Republicans had simply held votes on immigration reform in 2013 or in early 2014, it probably would have passed. That likely would have made it harder for Trump-ism to take hold to the degree it has so far.
Before you ridicule me for suggesting that Republicans would be better off today if they had simply done what I wanted them to do — pass immigration reform — please recall that GOP leaders themselves said at the time that they wanted to pass immigration reform. Even reform that included a path to legalization for the 11 million.

I saw somewhere that one of the things in Josh’s profile was that he was interested in a lot of, well, normal stuff in his Ashley Madison profile. Things he was looking for in a hook-up were things like a woman who was a T-shirt and jeans casual sort of person and who maybe liked to give and receive oral sex and have bubble baths together.
It kind of made me sad for him. The cult he was raised in and continues to belong to says this kind of stuff is sinful – his wife apparently is required to wear a modest dress and cover her arms and legs (no T-shirts, no jeans). Even talking to his wife about this kind of stuff is outside the bounds of the cult rules.
I mean, I’ve felt bad for the Duggar kids for a long time (even though the ones old enough to have a public life are so far all obnoxious shitheads) because they really have no chance. Their parents raised them in a cult and turned their lives into a televised freakshow for money. Joe Bob and Michelle have screwed Josh up so badly that he doesn’t even know what a normal relationship is, and I assume that the rest of them are also going to end up just as badly fucked up as he has.

It’s really time for Trump to start looking at his post-election era.
As he dismantles the existing voting blocks and takes on the deportablecrats, I think the House would fall behind him. The Senate, so filled with dems and cucks would be a lot harder nut to crack. I wonder how many Republican Senate races could be flipped to Trump supporters.

Trump will name his latest wife VP. He’ll fire any Supreme Court justice who fails to kiss his ass. Ditto the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His face will adorn Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty (new motto: Losers go home!).
Trump’s legacy is going to be yooooooouge.

Not great drama, not stellar film-making, but Young Dr. Kildare on TCM Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
Mention it only because it is enlightening as to just how primitive (to our present-day eyes) medicine was within living memory, in 1938.

When Trump takes office and begins to enforce, you know, The Law, I imagine some liberal states will try to become sanctuary states, in violation of federal laws. Various pro-deportation states will voluntarily set up checkpoints on their borders to capture illegals exiting, entering or transiting their states.
Some states would refuse to participate, but then Trump could activate their guard units under his authority.
The next presidency is going to be a fascinating time. It’s sad so many people can’t see what the future holds.

JPL and others are right, though — if the docs thought it was cancer or something else that was immediately life-threatening, you’d be commenting from your hospital bed right now. The fact that it’s not super urgent to them is (almost always) a good sign, at least for the short term. So it is in fact a Good Day.

Edward G. Robinson was born Emmanuel Goldstein and started his career in Yiddish-language theater, so that may have had something to do with his insistence on making the movie.

Amazon.com is evil and needs to be destroyed. Jeff Bezos is a monster and has to go.
It doesn’t how. If Bezos gets taken out by a drunk driver, that would be great. If his employee-victims formed a mob and tore Bezos apart limb from limb, that would be regrettable and I would never imagine suggesting anything like that…yet America would be better off if it happened.
Jeff Bezos is now the focus of evil in the modern capitalist world. Destroying employees’ lives and driving people toward suicide in order to deliver a doll to a rich woman within 23 minutes is the dictionary definition of `evil.’
I honestly don’t see the difference between a servant girl getting whipped to death because she didn’t serve the Tzar an eclair fast enough, and Bezos driving his employees into mental breakdowns or suicide in order to deliver a bottle of liquor to some rich amazon customer within an hour.
I really, truly don’t.
Bobby Thomson
@Heliopause: yep. Nate’s observations tend to be 50-50 at best when he gets away from data, and his arguments against Trump are really more wish fulfillment than based on anything hard. I think a reasonably plausible argument can be made as of today that Trump is not inevitable. However, the converse argument – that Trump inevitably must lose the Republican nomination – doesn’t really have a lot to support it right now.

Surely you’re aware that the Muppets were Cold War genetic experiments…?
The term “muppet” stands for MUtant Pinko Puppet Espionage Team. The Great Wall of China was built to keep muppets out. The blue and purple muppets, however, were genetically engineered by American scientists.
Beware! The hills have googly eyes, my friend…

@Bobby Thomson:
On the contrary: the GOP elite that define the convention and nomination rules are not stupid, and understand full well that Trump’s positions are wildly unpopular with the general electorate. Unless the GOP elites are hopeless self-destructive, they’ll change the rules so as to deep-six Trump’s nomination.

My Dad had a “wart” removed on Thursday, and had an appointment at Cleveland Clinic next Tuesday on Friday. Melanoma, 3rd-4th stage. They got it all, thank FSM, but he had little ones removed every few months the rest of his life.
I would drive him to the plastic surgeon, he would get 3 or 4 removed, pressure bandages all over, and drive him home. Fortunately he had a high tolerance for pain, and didn’t fuss too much. But he looked like he had won a whole bunch of knife fights, with 3 or 4 inch scars all over the place.
He was a sun worshiper, I like the shade, myself. I always have.
