Good on you, John, for admitting that you read the LGM story wrong.
Happy Easter weekend for those of you who are Christian.

Wow…look at you John…2 post in one day…I’ve seen you more on twitter than here of late..
I’m sitting here still feeling under the weather, but feeling a bit better if I could just get rid of this cold I have going.

Yeah, I was cornfuzzled by that whole thread too. The massive black hole of GOP DERP is creating a reality distortion field that’s hard to escape, especially now that it’s pretty clear that there are as many left wing nutjobs as right wing ones.
I’m watching Bloodline. I like Kyle Chandler and Linda Cardellini in it, a lot.

Check out #BirdieSanders on twitter. I think you’d have to be Donald Trump to not find that event totally adorable and sweet.

I switched to the Samsung Galaxy s7 a few days ago and it’s a great little phone. I had the LG G3 before and I hated that phone. It’s always so fascinating to me how every couple years the newer modelso are lighter and faster. I watch Star Trek TNG in repeat all the time and every time they pull out a late 24th century tri-Corder that looks like a big block I have to laugh.
Thanks Obama!

Hoping to wrap up the latest season of “House of Cards” this Easter weekend. About halfway through it so far. Does anybody watch “Grimm” on Friday nights? Pretty sure Ted Cruz is actually some form of a wesen.

@the Conster, la Citoyenne:
There are nowhere near as many left wing nutjobs as RWNJs, by something like 7 orders of magnitude (ok–maybe that’s an exaggeration–how about 3?). This is plain-old Broderism, but both sides do not do it. Yeah, there are some vocal folks on the D side, but the number of actual nutcases is actually pretty small.

Also, Robert Deniro is apparently dabbling in the anti Vax movement.

The festival, which was co-founded by Robert De Niro in 2002, has placed a film purporting to defend Wakefield and accusing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of a cover-up on its program this spring. The film is called “Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Conspiracy.” Its director: Andrew Wakefield. (Its trailer can be viewed below.)

@Thoughtful David:
I’m not so sanguine – there’s a deep vein of conspiracy mongering coupled with tribalism that has really taken off on the left this cycle – more than 2008, I think. There are a few among my group of well educated friends who should know better, which I’m extremely surprised to find out about – they’re not open to reason, a la the anti-vaxxers. They happen to ardently support Bernie, who has become an object of worship for them. (#NotAllBernfeelers) It freaks me out, and I see it all over twitter and my FB feed.
RoonieRoo
@Mike in NC: Yes and yes. If Cruz is a wesen that would explain so much. Now we just need a Grimm to hunt him down.

I think I must have missed it, but what’s the explanation of how one can go back and read older BJ posts?
No matter which browser I use, I can get past what is feeding on this one page. If I hit “2” or any other page number nothing happens–I can’t see any historical posts.
Seriously, this sucks because I can’t read this site at work and two or three days go by and I miss all the fun.
Oh, and in honor of Good Friday and Easter, I thought this William Faulkner quote was spot on summary of the teachings of Jesus:

Put about 12 miles on the bicycle at the park. There’s a steep hill about 2/3rds of a mile long where I planned to get off the bike and walk, until I got to the hill and thought, “why not?” Damned if I didn’t mange to ride most of it.

OMFG I FUCKING HATE HEALTH INSURANCE. FUCK THEM.
So I went in and got a boobie ultrasound on Monday. Today, I get a letter in the mail dated Tuesday saying that the authorization for that center was denied and I was supposed to go to a different one. Hello, barn door, horse … ?
Apparently my doctor authorized the ultrasound at the location where I had it done. My insurance will probably end up paying for it eventually, but this is not a stress that I needed. Plus now I don’t know where the fuck I’m supposed to get the biopsy.
Yes, I cried and swore at the first guy I talked to, but he was a fucking idiot who couldn’t find me in their system even though I had the fucking letter in my hand and gave him three different identifying numbers, and then got all snippy about me getting the ultrasound done before I’d received the authorization in the mail. So fuck him and the incompetent horse he rode in on.

Winding down after a stressful week of a mom health crisis managed long distance while trying to reserve the car and hotels for the road trip down to Florida previously planned to see her, all while wondering if I would get there in time. She’s now stabilized, will have an angioplasty next Wednesday that we hope will improve her comfort level and give her a bit more quality of life. The girls and I will load most of our historical landmark visits into a longer return trip home instead of splitting them each way. I’m also accelerating my planned relocation to Florida to soon after the girls leave for home. Which means I need to get serious about rehoming at least 1 dog and 3 cats.
I’m going to go open my bottle of wine.

I’m a longtime daily visitor here (probably started somewhere when John was in mid-to-late conversion), but 99.9% lurker. Every once in a rare while, someone either annoys me or thrills me enough to write a comment. There was one such comment here a couple of months ago by Martin, and I didn’t respond to it then, but I am now, because I keep hearing this amazing couple of sentences in my head as I walk around:
I live in NYC, and it just nails the place so perfectly and beautifuly, and I guess it’s true for me too — I’m a tiny little entrepreneur with my tiny little company busting my ass because that’s just what we fucking do here. I guess it’s why I came, even if I didn’t know that when I did. I did know that I loved the ambitious, creative, driven energy of the place, though.
What a great comment.

@Betty Cracker: She’s better, thanks; but this is very likely to be her last year with us. She’s failing faster than had been expected. But if she gets through the angioplasty, her outlook for the next several months improves.

I’m lucky — I have very good insurance, so I’ll probably be able to get the thing paid for eventually. But having to deal with an idiot who kept telling me that my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER must be wrong because the name on his computer didn’t match my name definitely made things escalate a lot faster than they needed to.

@satby:
I might not have gotten someone else — it was at the main office of the medical group. I basically get to deal with four (4) different entities: my doctor, the breast center, the medical group, and the insurance company. Of the three I talked to today, the insurance company was actually the most calming and helpful, believe it or not. I really have to switch doctors next year, because her desk staff sucks.

@Mike in NC:
At the end of the second season, I had this sinking feeling that HoC, which was so compelling in its cynical insidery story, was doomed because it had nowhere to go, and had arrived where it did too quickly (which is often a symptom of not-knowing-if-you’ve-got-another-season-itis).
But I was hoping it would surprise me. It hasn’t. However moderately more entertaining this season is than last, it still feels pretty meaningless — it’s now just another TV show, that happens to have politics as its subject, but whose uninteresting themes could really allow it to be about anything.

I saw Batman v Superman. First mistake was seeing it in 4D which made the special affects look like it was a video game.
I can’t tell you how much I hated this movie. The worst offense was it has no arc. And Bruce Wayne/Batman’s beef with Clark Kent/Superman doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. It makes Bruce Wayne sound like an idiotic rageaholic. But the worst part was subjecting me to the same talking heads, and so called journalists I’ve been avoiding in real life in my fantasy world. Why can’t these fuckers give real actors these roles?
Ugh! I can’t even look forward to a potential Justice League movie since Zack Snyder ruined the first DCverse attempt.

Under the ACA, Medicaid enrollment up, Exchange enrollment down. This is at variance with initial CBO projections.
And this is with 19 states NOT yet accepting the ACA Medicaid expansion. Medicaid increases will cost an extra $146 billion, Exchange decreases save $46 billion. So looks like roughly $100 billion increased cost over previously planned.
Original CBO projections had Exchange as larger program of the two. They are now more at parity. And again, this is with 19 states not yet expanding Medicaid. As time goes on and more states accept the expansion, will the ACA turn more into just an expansion of Medicaid with an overly complicated private individual health insurance plan tacked on?
This is not meant as a criticism per se. Expanding Medicaid is good thing. But I’m one of those evil Berniebros who think we should be pushing for Medicare for All. But I’m sure Richard has some explanation of why the “kludge” that is the ACA is just awesome and the crappy products available on the Exchange are so super good that middle class folks using the Exchange have to change their plan every year just to afford it, and has nothing to do with the fact that he works for an insurance company?

@Anya:
I hate the seemingly increasing trend of real “news” people in fictitious roles, except that it lays bare the lie that news is something other than entertainment (and as a news consumer, I’m guilty too) — and these people are its celebrities. I don’t see how any journalist who wants to be seen as above their own sense of celebrity can go onscreen and play a fake version of themselves.

@Mnemosyne: No one is calling for eliminating the ACA except in the fevered imaginations of hippie punchers. But there’s a difference in a goal being Richard’s “tweak the ACA, turns some knobs, twist some dials” technocrat bullshit vs planting the next stake in the ground as expanding Medicaid or Medicare eligibility even dramatically further. Like, for example, lower Medicare eligibility to age 55.

@Mike in NC: I avoided reviews, including twitter because I wanted to see it without any influence. But now that I am reading these reviews, I think they understated the awfulness & the emptiness of the movie. I lost an argument with the phone tree of my drug insurer last week. It kept asking what drug I wanted to order when I hadn’t called for that. Never saw that one. I will have to ask the SO if she has. I get the feeling she is moving past playing parts that her 15yo self would want.
Perhaps she needs to do a period piece

@Arm The Homeless:
Out of Sight is a great movie. Lopez has real chemistry with George Clooney, the script is adapted (faithfully) from an Elmore Leonard novel, and Steven Soderbergh is the director. Trailer here.

It’s particularly stupid because I got into a fight with the medical group, not the insurance company. The insurance company is all, Don’t worry, it hasn’t been billed yet, we’ll figure it out. It’s the medical group issuing the referral who are being dicks.
There is an advocate at work that I can call, so I’ll probably do that Monday. My employer is Kind Of A Big Deal in the local market and we have a lot of buying power, so it will probably work out eventually.

@Renie:
If you really want to see a great performance, dig out the episode of Homicide where he played a yuppie-type practically crushed by a subway car.
Carnacki
@debbie: That is a tough, tough episode.

@Carnacki:
It sure is. After watching, I apologized to myself for every time I had impatiently leaned over the tracks to see if a train was coming in yet.
