Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

“woke” is the new caravan.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

It’s hard out there for a pimp:

Rupert Murdoch, chairman of Fox’s parent company 21st Century Fox, cut short a vacation on the French Riviera with his wife Jerry Hall to return to New York and finalise the departure of his long-term ally. He will assume the role of chairman and acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network.

Open thread.

I read the release from Fox announcing the resignation. No reason is given for Ailes’ sudden departure. Did he get a better offer? Health problems? Wants to spend more time with his family? Strange!

You’d think someone who had been with the company since Day One would get a little more hoop-de-do when he left. At least tell Fox’s loyal viewers why the top man is leaving. Sad.

    Conservative logic primer 101.
Rule 1) Sexual harrassment is not real. It was invented by ball chomping femi-Nazis. All cases of harrassment are designed to attack the benevelont patriarchy and need to be dismissed outright.

Rule 2) Ignore rule 1 in the event Bill Clinton is accused of harrassment.

Nice, France got shoved right off the front pages and there’s a story worth telling–motorcyclist who climbed into the cab window and tried to punch out the driver while he was in the act of mowing people down. Driver hit him with his jammed gun and knocked him away. Luckily he lived, somehow. French now feel the driver had support from several folks in custody.

A nice article about the rise of the neoconartist in America ends quite appropriately:

What’s happening to this country has happened before, in other nations, in other anxious, violent times when all the old certainties peeled away and maniacs took the wheel. It’s what happens when weaponised insincerity is applied to structured ignorance. Donald Trump is the Gordon Gekko of the attention economy, but even he is no longer in control. This culture war is being run in bad faith by bad actors who are running way off-script, and it’s barely begun, and there are going to be a lot of refugees.

‘Weaponized insincerity applied to structured ignorance’ should be Fox’s new slogan.
