For the ages. Really. Obama is amazing. I can’t wait to see what he does next. I sort of hope he wants a Supreme Court seat though I know he has said he doesn’t want it.

The only thing that annoyed me were the hecklers and the cutaways to a scowling Bernie Sanders – clearly smoldering with some kind of anger…his face was red the whole time.
I hope the hecklers can shut the hell up tomorrow night.
MisterForkbeard
That was amazing. I’m jazzed and excited in a way I haven’t been in awhile. It’s one thing to know intellectually that Hillary will be a great president, and to like her and her policies, trying to convince your Bernie friends that she’s on the right side of history. It’s another to be fucking excited about it.
Fired up and ready to go! :)

Some of us who have been around for a while spent a lot of time being faithful to a political party that usually seemed to be playing defense.
One of the great gifts from Obama (and now I think HRC) is to have a political party that plays offense from a position it has staked out on the grounds of basic and solid values.

Not for a New York minute.
It is a complete mind fuck, though, to think back to the RNC and compare hope and light tonight, speech-wise, to fear, anger and darkness then. How is it that so many agree with Trump, even though he’s demonstrably unfit for the office and a treacherous and possibly treasonous swine in the bargain? They’re not all bad and/or stupid people, so how is it….is there something down in the limbic brain of some people that causes them to adore demagogues, given the right conditioning?
Mind you, there’s probably someone on a wingnut site this instant writing the mirror image of this.

@Matt McIrvin: Must have missed the part where Obama talked about all the people who still haven’t been part of the recovery. Idiot.
Also, I think the first words Hillary said to him when she came out was “How the fuck am I supposed to follow that?”
And you could see the mutual respect they felt for each other. I was listening to Biden being interviewed on Morning Joke today and he talked about how, early in the first term he looked at Obama and said “You know, at first I didn’t think we could be friends.” Obama then said, “Neither did I.” Obviously, they did. I think the same is true of Obama and Clinton.

@hueyplong: I can define him. I told him he was an irresponsible, incompetent loser and a drunk. This was after he missed taking Spawn to two commitments because he “forgot what day it was”, and “lost track of the time”, and lost his job for being hung over, which he refers to as “health problems”. And he has been unemployed for six months despite a solid job market, due to all of the aforementioned issues.

And yes, what percentage of middle aged, under educated white men have recovered?
Yes most of us are better off than we were 6-8 yrs ago but recovered? Back in decent financial health? Not me, not many of us. Better yes, recovered no. How many never will be fully recovered? And who exactly got us back to where we are? Not one fucking republican, not one.
And who exactly got us into the dumps in the first place? Every fucking republican.
Trump is running as the racist fuck who wants to destroy everything, as a fucking vanity project, that then man you just listened to did to return us to a lot better than we were, Trump is nothing more, nothing less than a bitter, racist asshole.

@Ruckus: Stats? You seem to be calling that things are worse since Obama came in.
Omnes Omnibus
@Omnes Omnibus: Never mind. Gotcha.
Troublesome Carp fka Geeno
@Omnes Omnibus: I’m just way too slow tonight
Ruckus
@Omnes Omnibus:
It ain’t – name your favorite author here – but I think it’s pretty clear that I’m giving President Obama credit for putting us far down the road to recovery, but many of us are not recovered. Me for example. Am I better today? Absolutely, 500% better.
And that’s due to President Obama.
ETA and I see that while I was composing this, it turns out I didn’t need to. Nevermind me if you need to as well.

@Bumper: ditto… he’s just projecting his self loathing on to you, don’t let him. Fuck lady, you design hospitals, he wallows in his own despair.

@Suzanne:
Christ, what an asshole. (Your ex, not POTUS.) Nothing more fun than an asshole with mental health issues who insists he’s just fine, it’s everyone else who’s crazy.
LeonS
@Suzanne: Ah, ok I wasn’t sure if this song would be appropriate to suggest for healing, but now I think it may be.

@Ruckus:
White identity politics, Trump is like his KKK father. Trump’s real message – make racism OK again.
One theme my husband picked up on – the number of ex Republicans speaking tonight. They got off some real barbed zingers. Mayor Bloomberg – I’m from NY and I know con artists. He said.
We could do without the zombie chanters. Those fucks should be barred tomorrow night.
Josh Marshall TPM – we are at war. This is like no other election in our history. . Quote below is on the TPM home page.

If Bernie had bitch face and was red and cranky, it’s because
a) he lost, and it’s been handled damn gracefully by the Democratic Party
b) everybody in the party up to Obama is saying, good job, important work, we need your constituency and they have valid points
c) i.e. ‘we can take them over now, issues adopted, thanks kbai’
d) the ones who ARE still seeing him as the sole leader for this platform are annoying jerks who are hurting what he cares about
e) it’s obvious they’re not helping and not capable of helping him hang on to a powerbroker type of role.
I do feel badly for him, and that’s why I’m so dogged and fierce about protecting his role as my Senator. He was there for me waaaaay before any of this. Loyalty is earned. I’m a Vermonter and I’m entitled to have that opinion because again, he was there for me many years before all this went down.
At the same time (Russia, I mean DNC, are you listening?) I’m completely prepared to let the Democrats take over what Bernie wanted to exclusively represent. He wanted to be the socialist populist guy, the one running against oligarchy. Unfortunately he made his case so exhaustively, that now the oligarchy is (quite rightly) running against oligarchy. If the Dem speeches can be believed, that means Bernie is superfluous. If Hillary’s got that message as strongly as it would appear, we technically don’t need Bernie anymore.
Noted rich-guy Nick Hanauer has been carrying on for years about how we gotta get populist or the poors will break out the tumbrels. Observing Brexit ought to have been evidence enough for anybody that it can happen here. I’m not shocked if Obama (most of all) but also Clinton (who keeps getting smarter and more determined) are up to speed with all this. When you put all the pieces together, it’s ‘bail out Main Street, (votes in place of ???), profit!’ time. That is why Trump is so desperately trying to co-opt that message, though it’s absurd for him even to pretend it.
I’m cool with looking after Bernie as the scale of his ambitions returns to us few up here in Vermont. I won’t see that taken away from him, it’s really rude even to suggest it after the way our leaders have carried on over him: he’s now the pet socialist, to be kept as an example of right thinking in our green-mountained rest home for the no longer politically central.
I’m more than happy for Hillary Clinton to continue that direction and get credit for making it a real thing. That’s the message we got. I say ‘please do’. In so doing, we take on board all the revolutionaries who’re worth a damn… all the revolutionaries who can get to work once they get what they want. We leave behind the ones who would just break stuff to have something else to yell about…

@Soprano2: Me too. And I don’t even smoke! I was ovulating.
