Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

It’s possible to be a liberal firebrand without crapping on the party.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Fight them, without becoming them!

“They all knew.”

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

On the Road and In Your Backyard

On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.

From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.

Submit Your Photos

Good Morning All,

This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.

So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.

You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.

For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.

Enjoy today’s pictures and be happy – tomorrow we’ll have some great stuff from fantastic photographer BillinGlendale

But first, to inspire us on this Tax Day 2017, more simple joy from Malaysia.

Today, pictures from valued commenter Vicki Delany.

Thank you so much Vicki Delany, do send us more when you can.

Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Occasional poster here. I’m DC-based but on a work trip to Denver. It’s so gorgeous and chill out here, it makes me rethink my life choices.

@PigDog: careful or you’ll get a native telling you what it used to be like before you and yours ruined it by enjoying being there.

    @Major Major Major Major:

I know we helped ruin it by visiting last Septermber! Spending hard earned easily gained Social Security and Pension Payments on great restaurant food, visiting those hip dispensaries, book stores, museums, parks, driving down the front range to Pueblo. Terrible the things we did to Denver!!!

It was great before we came!

Vicky, the Pictures from Borneo are finest, thanks for sharing a bit of the trip with us!

I can imagine a tiger lurking not far from that river.

    A wild country.
