Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Petty moves from a petty man.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Good Morning All,

It’s Friday and it’s otmar. Enough said!

Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!

Today, pictures from valued commenter otmar.

I’ve been negligent with regards to posting updates from life on the road in Europe. So here are some recent pictures.

This set is from our yearly week of skiing in Carinthia.

We were really lucky with the snow and weather this year. 4 days of perfect conditions is more than you can expect.

This is the view from the Gerlitzen towards south-east. The river is the Drau, the long, narrow lake is the Wörthersee.

Looking south-west, you can see Villach.

The mountain ranges you can see are first the Karawanken and behind that is Slovenia with the Triglav massif.

Klagenfurt is the state capital of Carinthia. This here is the of the old town square.

This is the official seat of the Carinthia’s government. (see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landhaus_Klagenfurt)

I think I shared a picture of Schloss Rosegg before. They seem to have cut down a number of trees recently, leading to a clear view to the building.

Thank you so much otmar, do send us more when you can.

Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Beautiful! Between today’s and yesterday’s photos, I’ve decided photos are the best way to experience winter.
