From one of the area’s party-sparkers, CaseyL:
PirateDan is coming to Seattle, and suggested a meetup, which the Seattle Jackalariat is always in favor of!
Dan B suggested Maneki Restaurant, in South Seattle. Looks like a good place to me.
Could you do a Seattle Meetup announcement/invitation post, for May 4, at Maneki Restaurant? Time TBD, but the place doesn’t open until 5:30.
Lurkers and significant others welcome, as always. Leave a comment if you’re interested…

Thanks CaseyL & AL for following up. I’m in.

Sorry that we weren’t able to pull together a Boston (Watertown) meetup last weekend when I was in town for Passover and Easter festivities. A double-holiday weekend was hard to work around, and I was on something of a tight schedule myself. Next time I do the 2500-mile R/T drive, I’ll make sure I’m on a looser itinerary!
Anne Laurie
@SiubhanDuinne: Sorry to have missed you — here’s hoping for better luck next time!
SiubhanDuinne
@Anne Laurie:
I didn’t push it very hard this time, TBH. My turnaround time was fairly tight for returning to the ATL. Hope to be in the area again maybe early autumn?
Ohio Mom
@SiubhanDuinne: Aren’t you also due in Cincinnati some time soon?
CaseyL
Thanks for posting this, Anne! I’m looking forward to seeing my local Jackals again, and giving PirateDan a big welcome.
SiubhanDuinne
@Ohio Mom:
Yes, don’t have a timeline yet. It will be on my way to or from Owen Sound, ON, and timing of that trip depends in large measure on my Canadian cousin’s health (he is probably going to have to have a foot amputated — diabetes — but they are looking for every possible way to avoid that first). My visit would be in part to give Dave’s wife a break from home nursing. So it’s all pretty much up in the air right now.
chopper
do you mean the place by uwajimaya? i may be able to do that.
piratedan
so lets do 530/1730?
Bumper
Bumper and Mr. Bumper are in.
Dan B
@chopper: It’s in Japantown just a few blocks east of Uwajimaya.
Reserving a room would be a very good idea. They are often very busy on weekends. When we get an approximate count I could make a reservation.
How many hundred year old Japanese restaurants are there in Tucson?
piratedan
not too many, to be sure, is sure the same could be said for Seattle/Tacoma when it comes to Oaxacan food, but always enjoy good quality food from the pacific NW, spent plenty of time in Portland and Juneau, and I do enjoy sushi, so no issues there :-)
CaseyL
@Dan B: If you could make reservations, that would be lovely. 5:30 is good for me!
H.E.Wolf
I’ll plan to be there. Thank you CaseyL, Anne Laurie, and Dan B for getting this underway!
Yes, let’s reserve one of the private rooms – they can seat up to 10, according to the website. For those of us, like me, with hearing deficits in loud spaces, a smaller room would be a big plus.
Looking forward to seeing folks, both local and out-of-towners!
hitchhiker, can you make it?
Neldob
I am interested.
Dan B
@piratedan: What a meany pointing out our culinary deficit. //
There are more Mexican spots than there were ten years ago. Finding quiet restaurants is the new challenge.
Dan B
By my count we have 9 or 10 at this point. Maneki’s private rooms seat 10 so we’re almost there. We can probably squeeze in a couple extra if we’re well bahaved… Oh, Jackals.. I forgot temporarily.
Mike J
I’m racing that day. I will try to make it, but I can’t swear to it.
I raced yesterday (got 4th), practiced today, dinghy racing Tuesday, J/105 racing Wednesday, dockmastering Friday night, racing Saturday. If you want to go sailing, I’m on a lot of boats this week.
thalarctosMaritimus
I’m in!
Yutsano
I might have to sit this one out. I don’t think I could do this as a day trip and for some reason hotels in Seattle just got ridiculous. But if we’ve already hit the 10+ then I expect pictures!
I’ll be back in the area early June too. So perhaps another one soon?
opiejeanne
@Dan B: I am very sorry that we will have to miss this. We are leaving very early that morning and should be well across the Oregon state line, and nearly in California by that time. We have to be at the cabin in time to pack up the things we are taking with us for the moving van that is coming on the 9th.
The night before the jacklatariat soiree we are going to hear Bill and Hillary. Our youngest bought us the tickets for Christmas and is going with us. We are surprised because she was such a fan of Wilmer and still hasn’t quite figured out why he’s not more popular, but she is not part of the cult thank goodness.
But again, we are sorry to miss this party with fellow jackals.
Dan B
@opiejeanne: Don’t worry. Have a good and productive trip. I’m certain we will do our best to talk about you and Mr. O. Jackals snarling and salivating!
CaseyL
Private room is an excellent idea – but what if there are more than 10 of us, as seems likely? How may more can be squeezed in?
Dan B
@CaseyL: I’ll try to find out what happens if it’s more than 10. It used to be all older women so you would regret breaking the rules.
CaseyL
@Dan B: Very good point: Don’t want to get the aunties and grandmothers mad :)
WilliamL
HI, I have lurked for many years and would be interested in actually meeting you all.
