Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs…
I’ve had two in mind to make and put on my (thus far barely used) zazzle store, and right now I’m disgusted with myself for not having followed through yet.
Was behind at work, got half caught up, and am having trouble seeing the progress instead of just the everything else I need to do.
Biden and Harris are awesome though.
As is John’s neighbor.

PS Has Sir Mumphrey Pumphrey Lord Fartdaddy etc been heard from, or observed to be getting some relief and or support? Not trying to intrude, trying to send some caring around.
I just got my Biden-Harris sign from the campaign. I’m going to put it up on the day ballots are mailed out this week.

Purely anecdotal but driving backroads between Charlottesville and James Madison’s Montpellier I saw early as many Biden/Harris signs as Trump/Pence. Even in the lower income areas.
Sign enthusiasm don’t mean much, but I think there is way more enthusiasm (even if it is negative partisanship) in 2020. When I was up in Maine this summer (just across the border from Portsmouth, NH – so relatively liberal area), there were plenty of Biden signs, as well as Sara Gideon. Only one sign for Collins, and only one for Trump-Pence – at the end of a driveway far off the road, that no one would see while they were driving.

I absentee in person voted on Thursday (Missouri) and it felt SO great to vote Biden/Harris at the top of the ticket. Straight Dem the rest of the ballot, of course.
To Missouri juicers, please vote NO on Amendment 3.
Todd Zwillich @toddzwillich · 40m In my convos with PA Republicans today, among the many many names in the mix for the open Senate seat: @DonaldJTrumpJr. He’s played a deep role in Trump campaign in PA, has installed many allies in county and state party positions.
Also amazing: I am watching parts of the Harrison-Graham debate from last night (on CSpan online – at my own pace, not clipped for me by others).
The most striking thing is how much better the questions are by local, South Carolina television journalists. They put the presidential debates to shame — plural because I mean 2016, 2012 and back, as well as the recent mess.
Jamie Harrison is also a very impressive candidate. I feel like my (and so many others’) donations are in excellent hands. It would be an upset that would be glorious, though I’m remaining very cautious in my hopes.

My neighbor with the Trump and Gardner signs took down the Trump sign (or someone took it).
Open senate seat? They talking Toomey in 2022? I hadn’t heard that dickweasal was leaving. Strange how one of the most conservative senators in 2010 is now probably among the most liberal of the republicans. I won’t miss him go, especially if the Penn Dems can get their act together and take the seat, but I had no idea he was only in it for two terms.
What open Senate seat is there in PA? As far as I can tell, my senators are still Casey (yay!) and Toomey (ptooey). There is no open seat.

In the first speech Biden delivered after the news broke that Trump had contracted COVID, he showed more class and dignity than Trump has shown in his entire life. Trump does not possess a single atom of gravitas. He’s a 100% pure, unadulterated grade A thug. I hope the staffs of the NY Attorney General and Manhattan District Attorney are burning the midnight oil in order to build an airtight case against Trump that will lead to his conviction and send him to prison.

@A Ghost to Most: I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the Trump campaign were stealing their own signs to sell them back to the cultists who originally bought them.
@Morzer: That thought also crossed my mind when I got an alert on the Ring app that someone’s Trump signs had been stolen*, the campaign does need the cash.
*My favorite response was “You should have built a big beautiful wall to protect your signs.”
But what is up with the prop Docs in the press conferences. Are they really Doctors? If so, why are they standing out there instead of working. They are not allowed to say anything. Pretty white group too which is not really the norm in any hospital attendings (although Trump may have rules). Also, a couple of them were wearing dangerously ill fitting scrubs, particularly the only POC who was left further apart and more distanced than the others. I wouldn’t think these things normally, but why are they there?
Are the Prop Docs WH staffers?

Did any of y’all watch Trump’s medical team update this afternoon? Conley basically admitted he was lying yesterday because they were trying to be “upbeat.” I don’t give a rat’s ass about Trump’s health. He can choke out on a ventilator for all I care; I’ve had a bottle of bubbly on ice for nearly four years waiting for his demise or defeat, and I don’t particularly care which comes first.
But I do care about the competence and integrity of the medical professionals looking after other patients at Walter Reed. I do care about the credibility of future presidents’ medical teams, and the liars and cranks revealed themselves under Trump. Looks like we’ll have to add another area of the government that needs to be de-Trumpified to the list.
@Betty Cracker: I expect the President’s Doctor to be evasive. But I don’t want them to lie. And I don’t want them to put on a Trump show when they are lying.

@germy: I think I hate you for reminding me that this Clarissa psychotic exists.
@Another Scott: Kevin Drum takes it to keep his cancer in check and just hates it, he calls it “the evil dex” and has tried to get off it, but then his bad numbers go up and he has to stay on it. He doesn’t sleep at all the nights he takes it.
As regular readers know, I take dexamethasone—aka the Evil Dex—twice a week as part of my treatment for multiple myeloma. The side effects are different for everyone, but they run the gamut from bad to hideous. In my case, the worst part is that it messes with my sleep pretty badly, but there are a few other bad side effects too. On the positive side, it keeps me alive, so there’s that.
Given my extensive experience with dex, I’ve gotten a lot of queries about why President Trump’s doctors would give him such a terrible drug unless he was in seriously poor health. The answer is simple: in general, the bad effects of dex only show up after you’ve taken it for a few days or weeks at least. If you take it only once or twice, it reduces inflammation like any good corticosteroid but most likely doesn’t have any seriously ill effects.
So that’s that. Giving Trump a dose or two of dex is a pretty easy decision: it’s helpful for people with temporary breathing problems and is generally well tolerated in short courses. It might mean that Trump’s condition is worse than we’ve been told, but more likely it doesn’t mean anything special. Who knows? Maybe Trump heard about it on Fox News and demanded some—although there’s never any telling for sure with this crowd since they lie about everything.
I hope the people in Trump’s car are his supporters, because I hate to think innocent people are being put at risk.
I doubt the Secret Service agents in the car are thrilled about being in a small enclosed space with the Superspreader in Chief activating shedding virus.
@Mary G: WR is a military hospital and he is their Commander-in-Chief. They’ll say whatever he tells them to say while on active duty.

@Spanky: Now that you mention it, Donnie mentioned the bigly great MAGA treatment he was getting from the bigly great MAGA doctors at the bigly great WR hospital in his 4 minute campaign speech yesterday. He even mentioned the 3rd Lady near the end.
But I don’t recall him mentioning the looooser troops, sailors, and airmen there.
@Marcopolo: I have occasionally wondered whether the Dems plan to bring up big, bold, popular legislation that the GOP will hate, wait for SCOTUS to wreck it and then run against SCOTUS and the GOP in the 2022 midterms before adding 4/6/8 justices to the court because “it’s what the voters demand”.
@Aleta: If you are admitted to a hospital can you come and go as you please? COVID patients in hospitals have died alone without their family being able to visit them.
The rules are for small people not the Tangerine tyrant?
Someone shared a tweet earlier that lawyers and now doctors will need to have a reckoning when this is over. He kills everything he touches.

@Morzer: I hope they don’t do that. The country cannot tolerate another 4+ years of death-by-1000-cuts actions in the courts and interminable appeals and so forth.
The majority needs to be able to pass its agenda and suffer the consequences with the voters if they get it wrong.
11-dimenstional chess is not a real thing.
My $0.02.
[eta.] – To try to be clearer – they’ve got more than enough reasons to expand and reform the SCOTUS and the other courts. They should write legislation to do that and work on hearings starting in January.
Until the SUV ride, I was urging consideration of Section 3 of the 25th Amendment. Now, if they care about the nation, the Vice President and Cabinet need to consider Section 4. @BillKristol
I wonder just how many people will be enraged by cretinous stunts like the Plague SUV parade. I would imagine that it appeals to the Trump cultists, but royally pisses off everyone else. Seems like a good way to lose votes that Trump simply can’t afford at this point.

Kurt Schlichter @KurtSchlichter· 37m Let me explain a hard truth… I do not accept the premise that @realDonaldTrump put his Secret Service detail in danger, but even if he did it’s their job to accept risk to do their job when he decides it’s important for us to see our POTUS is OK.
I guess their lives aren’t blue enough, or something
@Morzer: I think that’s more likely than them expanding the court right out of the gate. But the only way they get there is to kill the filibuster, because while it might be possible for them to get to 60 in this election, it’s extremely unlikely.
He wants to sign a deal for a TV show before the election, since he’s pretty sure he’ll lose. Prolonged illness will weaken his image and the offers unless he can turn the narrative into myth: badass superpower man rises again.
198.
Morzer
@Another Scott: I agree with you, but I could see the Dems trying to be much cleverer than they really are. I’d like to see SCOTUS expanded, DC and Puerto Rico given statehood and a huge legislative program rammed down the GOP’s throat. Plus, of course, a strip-off-the-bark public investigation of Trump, his enablers, GOP corruption and ties to Russia/MBS etc etc.

@sanjeevs: What changed? I have to assume that at least an unreliable test came back positive.
Twitter now buzzing that that must have been a fake Trump, some sort of body double, because the SUV wasn’t the “Beast” presidential limo. Presumably these are the people who think his whole illness is a fraud and everyone at Walter Reed is playing along. I think they’re underestimating the stupidity of Trump.
DC statehood is almost a certainty if we get the Senate. Some conservative group will challenge it, and maybe that’s the trigger for expanding the court.
I know it’s probably just an accident of the snapshot, but he’s got that “this is my life now” look.
217.
sdhays
@Morzer: I think they should at least kill the filibuster (60-vote cloture rule) and admit DC and PR (assuming that’s what the people of PR decide). I’d love to see them expand the Court, but I still can’t imagine them doing that. I think still too many of the Democrats are going to be reticent to go to war over the Court.
But the Republicans will bring the war to them anyway. All of the deep red states are going to be tripping over themselves to be the one to overturn Roe v. Wade. It’s hard to imagine a 6-3 court upholding it. If they are able to do that before the 2022 mid-term elections, the Democrats could very well end up with a super-majority in the Senate (although, likely not one that could impeach any “Justices”) and would possibly have enough of a mandate to have the backbone to transform the Court.
We’re almost at the series finale. It’ll be over soon.

@Baud: I always thought that new states had to be approved by a majority or super majority of other states. I guess that is why I am not the constitutional scholar.
@Matt McIrvin: For it all to be a fraud it would have to involve a huge number of doctors, nurses, other medical and support staff to be in on it. Not tenable.
226.
Baud
@catclub: Nope. Just Congress, like any other law.
@schrodingers_cat: Forgive me if you know all this. Your question makes me think out loud. For non-Covid, I believe a patient can leave by signing themselves out “against Drs orders” (so the hospital isn’t held liable). But if they do that, the Dr. may refuse to treat the patient again. To be readmitted to the hospital, it depends on their policies I guess.
The hospital can prevent them from leaving if a judge determines that the patient is a risk to others or self, and signs an order, but that’s not an easy process. Without an order, a hospital / Dr. will put a lot of pressure on a patient or their family to stay. To go in and out, the hospital and Dr. need to permit it as you say, but if they don’t agree their only recourse is to refuse to let them in again.
You have a point since Covid risks harming others. I guess it depends on whether a state or city has managed to get Covid classified as a danger in that way? Given Republican legislators’ resistance to “restricting citizen’s movement” (as they like to call it) for even guidelines for Covid, now I’m wondering about hospital policies.

I think I’ll be back soon, and I look forward to finishing up the campaign the way it was started, and the way we’ve been doing, and the kind of numbers that we’ve been doing. We’ve been so proud of it, but this was something that happened, and it’s happened to millions of people all over the world, and I’m fighting for them. Not just in the US. I’m fighting for them all over the world.
We’re going to beat this coronavirus, or whatever you want to call it, and we’re going to beat it soundly. So many things have happened. If you look at the therapeutics, which I’m taking right now, some of them, and others are coming out soon that are looking like, frankly, they’re miracles, if you want to know the truth. They’re miracles. People criticize me when I say that, but we have things happening that look like they’re miracles coming down from God, so I just want to tell you that I’m starting to feel good. You don’t know over the next period of a few days, I guess that’s the real test, so we’ll be seeing what happens over those next couple of days. I just want to be so thankful for all of the support I’ve seen, whether it’s on television, or reading about it. I most of all appreciate what’s been said by the American people, by almost a bipartisan consensus of American people. It’s a beautiful thing to see, and I very much appreciate it, and I won’t forget it. I promise you that.
Plus, he didn’t have his orange pancake makeup on. You know something would have to be very wrong for him not to have that on.

In the first speech Biden delivered after the news broke that Trump had contracted COVID, he showed more class and dignity than Trump has shown in his entire life. Trump does not possess a single atom of gravitas. He’s a 100% pure, unadulterated grade A thug.

The Biden campaign pulled down their negative ads and still had endless amounts of good positive messaging to put forward.

John, clean your camera lens.
Aleta
