Update to add: Are any of you still unable to get an appointment? Find A Shot
Barbara
I got the first dose of Moderna on Thursday. For the record, the only thing I felt was a sore arm. I’ll take Badger whose face bears an uncanny resemblance to my little chihuahua mix.
For those in Northern Virginia still waiting for an appointment close to home, I was notified by my House rep that there is a big vaccination site being set up in Tysons Corner. Here is what the message said in relevant part:
I would add to that the link that Betty posted that I used to find shots for everyone in my household, which is findashot.org.

Dad’s nurse’s aide finally got her second shot. She was reluctant back in February. Then when she changed her mind she was too young to be eligible (i.e. had missed the boat). When she finally was eligible she called CVS. When she told them what her job was they said “we can get you in today!”
We have already scheduled our first hug in over a year.
Step-son’s fiance got her shots, and her long-haul covid symptoms have vanished
ETA: She has been risking her life to care for my dad! People there have died, and not just the residents.

Spouse got Pfizer #2 Thursday and had no side effects. Thus completes the trifecta of she, the kid (J&J) and me, all shot up. Wait, that sounds weird. One Nancy please, on account of the gals having met her in person back in 2019 and she gave them hope we’d survive Trump.
WaterGirl
@Barbara: I added your link up top.
WaterGirl
@sab: Finally the nurse’s aide!! Yay.
And wonderful news about the fiancé whose long haul symptoms vanished. Truly something to celebrate for every person that happens too.
Ihop
Today is two weeks since my second dose of the moderna vaccine. No side effects that a couple of ibuprofen couldn’t zap.
A tad off topic, but does anyone remember a post in the last two weeks where someone here commented on how her long haul troubles seemed to vanish after she recieved the vaccine? Asking for my brother. Thanks.
Oh, and I’ll take the baby duck sticker, please.
Barbara
@WaterGirl: It’s apparently a real mystery to scientists and doctors as to why the vaccine would have that effect, but maybe it has something to do with kick starting the immune system to try harder. It must be such a relief to start feeling better.
pinacacci
Got my second Pfizer dose on the 13th, so come Tuesday I will be fully vaccinated and I’m very pleased and relieved. No side effects except a little arm soreness. Smooth and very fast process run by the health department with assistance from fire/rescue at a community center in an underserved area of the county (no Publix anywhere near it).
I did run into some maskless jackholes leaving the center (presumably after having gotten their jabs) who felt the need to make snide comments about not needing to wear a mask outside even though signs in the parking lot saying “Mask Required” were everywhere. So tired of Florida covidiots. Can’t believe they even came in for shots
ETA Himesama please!
HeleninEire
Got my second Moderna yesterday. Except for a sore arm and a slight headache everything is grand. Once again the Flushing Library in Queens was the epitome of efficiency. In and out in no time.
Can I have Rosie and Thurston? Thx.
ellie
Hubby and I got the first shot of Moderna on Wednesday. Our arms were sore on Thursday and Friday, but this morning, they are fine. I’ll take Samwise. He looks like he has seen some shit.
WaterGirl
@Ihop: Yes, that was TaMara! She had a front page post with that information in it, and several people chimed in to say that was true for them or for people they knew.
edit: I poked around, but I could not figure out which post it was. ! High hopes for your brother after he gets vaccinated!
sab
@Barbara: You are as valuable to BJ as the front pagers. My husband reads the front page but not the comments. I tell him he is nutz.
Most of us commenters post well-intended drivel. You and Kay and some others post really important stuff. Thanks.
Barbara
@sab: Thanks. :-))
Subcommandante Yakbreath
My wife and I got our psecond Pfizers on Wednesday. Other than a little soreness at the injection spots and feeling a little more tired than usual Thursday and yesterday, all’s good.
Tikka please and thank you.
WaterGirl
@Barbara: I have seen two different theories on why it has that effect. The one you mentioned, and another one that I cannot recall at the moment.

FWIW the second Moderna seems to come with 24 hours of aches, fever, and fatigue. The J&Jers weren’t as bad, some fatigue and nausea. Expecting to call off, or not engage in a normal level of activity is a prudent course of action.
sab
@HeleninEire: Is your dad okay?

I got my AZ shot 2 weeks ago in a little rural town an hour north of here. My husband got his last week. I felt a little “off” the day after, but nothing else. My husband needed long naps for a couple of days after his shot. There is talk up here in Quebec that folks in a two dose regimen may well get a second shot of something else. I know the UK is studying it for safety and efficacy, but I’m not sure the health authorities here are as concerned. I feel they are trying to get 2 shots into as many people as possible just to say they are “fully vaccinated.” Also, the unreliability of the shot import and distribution. Has anyone heard anything more about the mixed dose study in the UK?

I got my second Moderna shot yesterday. Got a sore arm, achy joints and am tired today, so, yay, it’s working. ? I’ll take Dolly. She’s a good person.

@Scout211: Thank you! That includes the second one I had read about but couldn’t remember.

@HeleninEire: I was seriously awful to you years ago. I could explain it, but explaining it would be justifyng it and that is not appropriate.

LongHairedWeirdo
I haven’t had my shot yet, but because I reckon I’ll be job searching soon, I could no longer use my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as a reason not to get it done. (See, with CFS, I nearly never leave the house. And it can be amazingly difficult to deal with persnickety, invasive requests for an appointment.) I’m scheduled for Monday in the evening, and my second shot is also scheduled. (It’s Pfizer, which only matters to me insofar as it’s the big bright, beautiful moon, shining mockingly, over Trump’s claim that he deserves any credit for vaccines. Oh – you didn’t think I meant the orbital body that causes the tides, did you?)
WaterGirl
@sab: I took the liberty of fixing your code.
WaterGirl
@LongHairedWeirdo: Crossing my fingers – for you and anyone with chronic fatigue syndrome – that if the shots do somehow reset the immune system, that perhaps you can get some unexpected relief from the vaccine.
Barbara
@WaterGirl: There is some research to show that many vaccines jump start the immune system in a way that makes it more effective against other diseases, not just the one you are being vaccinated against, even if that effect is only temporary. Others are skeptical, but it seems like the impact the vaccine is having on long haul Covid might be supportive of that theory.
sab
@WaterGirl: Thank you. Always there for us.
WaterGirl
@Barbara: I think we are going to learn a lot about covid and immunity and all sorts of things as a result of covid. That will be the silver lining, I guess.
The other silver lining is that it exposed inequities that most people were maybe aware of, but now they have been laid bare for all to see. Some things cannot be unseen, so I hope we can use this opportunity to make changes.
Ken
@Barbara: On the downside, measles can cause “immune amnesia”, so your body loses a lot of existing immunities.

My son got his second shot Thursday and is still feeling a little dragged out from side effects.
I got my second shot yesterday and all I got was a sore shoulder, so far.
Mike S
I’m getting my second Moderna shot is 40 minutes. May 8th can’t come soon enough.
Rob
I got my second Pfizer jab yesterday, mid morning, as I mentioned in the last I got the shot thread. Everything was normal yesterday except that my shoulder was and is a little sore. Today, I was a little pooped, and shortly before noon took a 25 minute nap that is taking me over an hour to recover from (which is typical for me and naps).
PaulWartenberg
I got my second shot!
the next day was rough – lightheaded at work, extreme chills at bedtime – but I got through it.

First AstraZeneca last Tuesday, 2nd dose in JULY?? EU has really hurt us here in Puglia, very slow rollout, and we are over 70. Half done, any sticker is fine.

@gogiggs: Sticker?
WaterGirl
@La Nonna: July? That makes no sense. That must be frustrating.

@WaterGirl: Italy has adopted the UK standard of 12 weeks between doses, not supported by science, yes, frustrating.

I seem to have first posted in a thread too old for it, so I’ll repeat it in a proper one:
Got my first dose of Moderna last week! Side effects were a sore arm at the “pulled a muscle” level of pain for a few days, and three nights of disrupted sleep schedule (sometimes insomnia, sometimes out like a light for 12+ hours). Assuming all goes to plan it will be two-weeks-since-second-shot in early June.
I’d like a Baby Champ sticker if that’s all right.

My husband had his 2nd Pfizer on Tuesday; I had mine on Thursday. He had no side effects after the 1st shot, but pretty severe aches and pains for about 24 hours starting 12 hours after his injection. Sort of freaked me out, because I’m always the one out for a day or two after flu shots, not him.
I felt the Pfizer Pfogginess after the 1st for about a day or so, but that’s been about the same for the 2nd (with a headache that could be sinuses?), which feels incredibly lucky, though I did sleep until 1pm today, so I’m apparently still tired.
Advice: Eat before you get your shot. I fainted about 20 minutes after my 1st shot, and the DPH nurse said that they get a handful of fainters per week who, like me, had an empty stomach. I scheduled my 2nd for immediately after lunch and ate a piece of crystallized ginger in the car immediately after (didn’t wait there; we live close to the county DPH office). I felt a slight drop about 30 minutes later, ate another piece of ginger, and was fine. So that’s something to consider if you are at all prone to fainting or blood sugar issues.
I also sat on the floor and sobbed for about 20 minutes after I got home. I was just so relieved. We would be India if trump had won, if we hadn’t elected Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock. It was like all the despair of the last four years just poured out. I’m so grateful.
So, I’ll take a Joe and a Nancy for us, please.
WaterGirl
@Manxome Bromide: You get a sticker in both places, because I forgot to post the comment:
“There is a more recent I Got the Shot! thread.”
It’s there now, though.

@Barbara:
Actually, less of a mystery to allergists than to epidemiologists.
The current theory is that long-haulers are suffering from an COVID-caused auto-immune disorder; their immune systems are still flailing after the COVID infection and attacking everything, still trying to eradicate it.
The vaccine is then shouting “Hey, over here! THIS is what you’re supposed to be reacting to!” Which stops the auto-immune condition once you’ve fine-tumed the system.
As a sufferer from a hereditary auto-immune condition, my PCP warned me it was better to hide until I was vaxxed than to risk exposure, because if I survived, I’d be a long-hauler.
Good news is that if this turns out to be the case, we may be able to short-circuit some acquired allergies ?
Emerald
I want Nancy. Not only do I have both doses, but as of two days ago I am fully cooked.
Note: my sister has had a serious reaction to the first Moderna shot. Eight days after the shot she developed an itchy, large red bump on her arm. Called Kaiser nurse, who referred her to a doctor, who suggested that she not get the second shot , but to get J&J instead
She’s not allergic to anything that she knows of. Only possibility, our dad learned late in life that he was allergic to bee stings. So, maybe it’s that.
Anyhoo, Sis is fine and I want Nancy, ’cause I’m done!
FlyingToaster
So yes, I got my second Moderna on Wednesday morning, at the suburban hospital. This time it hurt like fuck. I managed the grocery trip, came home, made HerrDoktor and WarriorTeen unload and put away while I Tylenol’ed and sacked out. All day Thursday I was exhausted and my arm hurt, and at one point in the afternoon was a little warm (just short of a low-grade fever). Friday at 7 am every damn joint hurt (including toes), but by 9 am it was gone except for a little arm pain.
And at vax day + 3 nothing hurts, and I’m a little tired after the morning errands. Like Princess Leia, I’m definitely celebrating Cinco de Mayo. And anxiously awaiting approval for WarriorTeen this summer.
Dolly, please!
Mike S
I’m still in line which makes me very happy. I’m in a minority majority area that is lagging behind other areas. When I came for my first shot I was in and out in less than a half hour.
I will take Steve for my sticker please.
Tazj
I’m scheduled for my second shot of Moderna today at 3:30pm. I had fatigue with my first dose, so I’m hoping the second will be ok as well. I’m just relieved to be able to get vaccinated and I wish more people in this country would do the same.
It really saddens me that the COVID-19 positivity rate has increased in my area when appointments are available. I don’t know what the constraints are on our country getting vaccines to other parts of the world(or if there are any) but I really wish we’d get help to other countries quickly.
WaterGirl
@Emerald: I got that same reaction exactly 8 days after the shot – it’s a known thing.
I have an article about it. Somewhere. My dermatologist said not to worry about it, as did the article.
I think your person at Kaiser wasn’t up to speed and gave bad advice.
edit: okay, I hunted down the article.

Pfizer #2 done. Y’all can officially address me by ‘my liege’ now.
2nd shot was same symptoms as first shot, just worse. Arm still a little sore 3 days later, a little sluggish today but the feeling of a massive hangover pretty much gone. If you’d told me 24 hours after the shot that my arm was broken, I wouldn’t have questioned it. But 10/10, would do again, and expect to booster up in some months.
Queen Kamala again please.

Second Pfizer shot received on Tuesday. I feel like Tikka!

My spouse and I were able to join House Pfizer last Monday. His 97 year old mother completed her Pfizer vaccination in February. His cousins were also completely vaccinated this week. We would like a Lily and an Uncle Joe sticker.

Whole family is done; daughter and my girlfriend got their last shots two days ago; stepdaughter’s last shot over a week ago. I’ve been done two weeks today! So, we are all done and I can go out among the masses!
So all are ready or at least till a booster and /or a new vaccine are required … the latter danger should be an incentive for the US to share excess vaccine ASAP or that will be far more likely
I’ll always take the duckies if you are still checking up on these here posts.

I just finished getting my second shot(Moderna) and I’m waiting to leave.

Got Moderna #2 yesterday! Today I feel like I was hit by a truck (fever and joint pain), but it will fade quickly, and we’re already making plans with friends who’ll be fully immune in early/mid May too.

@Barbara:
As should be obvious, our bodies do not all work exactly the same way or sometimes even work various parts at all. I think that some people may have an immune system that really doesn’t kick in that hard but a vaccine might just tell it to get off it’s ass and get to work. Many of those alive today do not take the level of vaccines that older farts took because so many of those diseases are extinct or very rare today. And as much as it may or may not look it, most of us live in a far different virus world than we used to.
All of this is to say that some immune systems may need a shove/wake up call to fully function. And those old farts who did take all those vaccines are often full of comorbidities, even if they don’t know it. For example, I’ve had a HA but didn’t know it. My cardiogram and angiogram showed it, but it was news to me. My doc said that 60% of people who have had an HA, never know they did.

Just got my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at Levi’s Stadium, at long last. Being able to meet students in person again over the summer is going to be a welcome change.
And I would love a Himesama sticker.

Got Pfizer #2 on Thursday and was hit over the head 18 hrs later. Fever, chills, muscle & joint aches – at least I know something is happening! Still woozy and very achy today. Unusual reaction for me to vaccination & nothing like what happened with the first shot.
And as of now, everyone in my immediate family has had at least one shot, with 3 of us getting either the first or second in the last few days. I’ll take a Steve sticker :)

I’m now fascinated by the mystery of the eight-day-delayed Moderna arm effect, and if it happens to me I will almost find it cool.
Villago Delenda Est
2nd Moderna jab on Thursday. No side effects other than the sore arm at the jab, and it’s not that bad, really.
Well, I do have this “Bill Gates is my Lord and Master” thing going on, but it will pass, because every time Windows screws up, it latches down.
TKH
Just came out of the Southern Utah backcountry, just in time for vaccination to be opened up for everybody (yeah!), so I was concerned I would have to wait for weeks for my second shot after having received #1 before I went hiking. In fact, though, I got an appointment for the next day! ( which is of course concerning. These appointments should have been snapped up right away after the eligible population had been expanded. Not a good sign.)
No side effects at all, just as after the first Fiza shot I received. Did I only get saline? Let’s see whether Bill Gates answers my calls now.
Henry, please. I assume the double O in woof indicates two shots received.

It’s Fauci for me.
I’m #HousePfizer, and I’m not half-vaxxed any more. Minor discomfort yesterday after the Thursday shot, back to normal today.

Aw heck, I’ve got one Pfizer down at a drive-in clinic at the community center in Lee County, NC. I was in and out in a little over half an hour this past Wednesday morning. I couldn’t estimate the number of cars very well, but the line was just out to the road when I joined it and moved pretty quickly. I’m due back in mid-May and could theoretically join the Memorial Day throngs a-thronging, if I enjoyed that sort of thing even in the absence of a raging global pandemic.
One Samwise, please.
Auntie Anne
Just got home from Moderna 2. Could I have Uncle Joe AND the ducklings? Uncle Joe because he really revved up the vaccination effort, and the ducklings because they are so stinking cute.
mazareth
I got my second dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday afternoon. I’m doing pretty well today, but last evening into the early morning was pretty tough. The soreness my arm was much more noticeable, and went from the shot site to just above my elbow. I also had some chills, and my joints were achy.
Other than some fatigue from a restless night, I’m feeling much better today. I’ll post an update tomorrow if I have another rough day. I’m just glad to be fully vaccinated!
I’ll take the Uncle Joe sticker.

Current thread isn’t appropriate for this, so I’ll vent here a bit. Just got word from the youngest’s school that he’s been exposed to Covid. He just went back to school after the 2 week waiting period of our (DH and me) vaccines. They were at 6 feet distance and 2 days per week (two cohorts of kids went 2 days each) but then the school went to 3 feet distance and eliminated cohorts so all kids go 4 days per week. On WEEK 2 of this new system, a kid in his classroom gets sick. The principal called an hour ago to say our kiddo now has to quarantine for 2 weeks and attend school remotely. So he is really, really upset and worried. I asked if the entire class is remote and the answer is NO, just the couple of kids that were within 6 feet. Fortunately, the school has been strict on masks and other measures so hopefully that all holds and he doesn’t catch it. Two of the three adults in the house are fully vaccinated and the other has had 1 Moderna. Kiddo is not showing any symptoms. But even with all that, it is scary. Now we wait for the health department to call.
WaterGirl
@Bumper: So frustrating and scary. Who in the hell thought it was a good idea to go to 3 feet and no cohorts? Hopefully all will be good, but 14 days is a really long time to wonder, worry and wait.
