Everybody gets all giddy about Big Sur (south of Monterey), but for my money coast of NorCal up into southern Oregon can’t be beat.

@TheOtherHank: I agree. Used to hitch down from Portland to camp on the coast as well as hitching through on Highway 1 before I moved to Portland.
Nice evocative photo!

Where are all the pictures?
Kidding, the one is great!Brings back memories!
We spent much of a week on the Oregon coast en route from Seattle to San Francisco on Amtrak back in the late 1980s… our first real vacation trip. Much mystery in the views of the Pacific out there, was also October for our trip. On the Olympic peninsula we drove from sea level up to see multiple glaciers in just a few hours, thru giant forest trees, huge beautiful things.
Sister Golden Bear
It’s a beautiful and wild area up there.
Just a mile or two of Westport, Highway 1 turns inland until it merges with Highway 101 because Caltrans decided the Lost Coast was simply too difficult to build along (it’s even more rugged than Big Sur).

Another Trailer Trash Traveler! We just made our reservations for next Spring at Patrick’s Point near Redwood NP. We’ll be working our way up from LA to the Oregon coast, then points east. Another several-month lap of the country. I’m looking forward to it – haven’t seen much of Oregon except the interstates.
