Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

People are weird.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Books are my comfort food!

This fight is for everything.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Just a quick note to say that I added “Austrian Alps” as a category, so in case anyone wanted to see the previous parts again to refresh your memory, you can click on Austrian Alps under the title and see the ones that have already been published.  ~WG

OK, let’s just stay in town today and walk around. As a reminder Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a joining of 2 old towns, and sometimes shortened to GaPa. Garmisch is on the west side and, of course, Partenkirchen on the east.

Crossing over the ubiquitous alpine town stream on a nice covered footbridge, to walk through a nice, mostly old, residential part of town. There were paths on both sides of the stream to stroll down. Bigger picture.

This is the center of the what looked to be the old part of Garmisch. Bigger.

This was part of one of the older buildings (several hundred years old, IIRC), just a block or two away from the previous picture. Embiggify

Back in the main part of Garmisch, we enjoyed the painted-scene buildings, and, of course, then setting. Bigly (I was more thinking of an app with a stupid adverb name, not something TFG would say – he can rot in jail, bigly.)

Another building with a painted scene, and the Alpspitze making an appearance on the left. View large

Speaking of the Alpspitze, that’s one of the things we missed seeing up close on our first day of hiking – we were right under it but could never see it in the clouds :-( You get some good views of it on the train on the way into town (it was clear that day). It is quite striking.

Some alpenglow from the town center. Evenings were generally the clearest time of day on this trip. Larger

After 4 days, we finally made it over to Partenkirchen. This is a little plaza by the main church, with flowers in the foreground and the mountains peeking in at the back. Enlargeness

Partenkirchen is somewhat famous for this ridiculously quaint street of scene-painted buildings. It was both really beautiful, and a bit too shi-shi, lol. Big shi-shi

How about another look at walking on the path through the middle of the valley, paralleling Garmisch. Large view

I’ve never lived near mountains, and the sixth picture in particular is astonishing to me with the mountains right there.

Fingers crossed, and baring complications, we should be back in the Alps next summer for part of our holiday. Can’t wait.

There’s something magic in views that include incredibly rugged background mountains and quirky, pretty buildings and streets in the foreground.  Love it, thanks.

Any idea about the stick things above the doors in pic #3?
