North Carolina presidential primary candidates finalized

DEM- Joe Biden

GOP- Trump, Ryan Binkley, Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, and Vivek Ramaswamy

REJECTED- Dean Phillips, Marianne Williamson, Cenk Uygur, and Jill Steinhttps://t.co/FRkzcILx7N

— Ted Corcoran (RedTRaccoon) (@RedTRaccoon) January 2, 2024

This is a prime example of fake leftists adopting Republican talking points because they think it will help their agenda: in this case, its a guy who was not born in the US thinking he should be able to bypass the constitution and run for president. https://t.co/WlijWjK46z

Have they tried rubbing some crystals on her campaign?

Lordy.

But *none* so angry as Dean Phillips!

Defending the Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Tennessee Democratic Parties by noting how MAGA Republicans kept Trump's competitors off primary ballots in 2020 is about as rich as it gets.

"MAGA Republicans do it, so what's the big deal?"

— Dean Phillips (@deanbphillips) January 5, 2024

You didn't file your paperwork on time, Dean. It's also why you're not on the ballot in Nevada.

did I mention? you should be ashamed of yourself. Because of the utter failure of your campaign you’ve shifted from your original argument to a load of dishonest whining which now explicitly makes the Trumpian argument that Dems advocacy of the democratic order is cynical BS.

— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) January 6, 2024

He doesn’t get it: He doesn’t have the ground support in these states. His campaign just seems to be in only NH and the ‘Net.

— Prime of House Moderna 🌻 (@TheJPPrime) January 7, 2024

Dean Phillips is chapped because he’s never faced a situation in his life where everybody told him ‘no’. https://t.co/9d1ovON0Du

Since Biden is not on the New Hampshire ballot, his expected vote total would necessarily be . . . zero.  Hard to see how he falls short of that expectation.  Just sayin’

@wjca: There is, of course, a write-in campaign for Biden.  It won’t affect the official delegate totals, but it will certainly be touted as an indicator of the all-important VIBES by major media.

Good morning from Aqaba, Jordan. I have safely disembarked from the ill-advised cruise through the Red Sea, which was mercifully uneventful. And I got to see a little of Saudi Arabia, which is a very strange place, and transit the Suez Canal, which was very very cool.

The solitary virtue of the presidential contest lasting as long as it does is that it requires a candidate to find out the requirements for getting on the ballot in each state and to do the proper paperwork to get on it.

This requires them all to begin their campaigns long before the first primaries, making the whole thing two years long every time, but it does have the virtue of informing everyone of who the most incompetent posers are before primary season starts.

I pine for the days when the also-rans were sitting congressmen hoping for a promotion to the Senate and termed-out governors angling for a cabinet appointment. It used to be you had to put in the years that Chris Dodd or Tom Vilsack did to rise to the heady levels of 1 or 2 percent in the primary polls.

Say what you will about Ross Perot, when he ran in 1992, his supporters learned the rules for getting him on the ballot in their states, and got him qualified for the ballot in every state.

Ross Perot got on TV a lot in 1991 and 1992, and that helped. But these loons seem to think that getting on TV a lot is the qualification for getting on ballots, and they get upset when they find out it’s not. Tough noogies, y’all.

@Baud: Blinken’s on one of those whirlwind airline tours. Yesterday it was Ankara, Nicosia and Amman. He still has stops in the West Bank, Israel, Qatar, the UAE and Egypt.

Blinken’s talks in Ankara couldn’t have gone too badly; at least he said afterwards that he believed that Turkiye would agree to Sweden’s Nato accession. That might happen when the Grand National Assembly meets again on January 16.

Erdogan may be waiting for signals from the Biden administration and Congressional leaders that sales of F-16s are forthcoming. Turkiye and Sweden seemed to have worked out their bilateral issues this summer, in the weeks leading up to the Nato summit in Vilnius. Turkiye is still using accession as a bargaining chip for F-16 sales, though.

@Geminid: Yes, Aqaba was the scheduled end, though at one point the cruise line rep told me they were considering just skipping all the Red Sea stops and barreling through to Oman. (Which the ship, minus the passengers, is now doing.) The big change was all of the stops in Egypt were cancelled, and most of us had our return flights cancelled and rescheduled several times. I’m due to fly to Istanbul at three am, so fingers crossed I will be landing in NY early tomorrow afternoon.

I’m staying at a really lovely hotel in Aqaba, and there is no one here. I was the only person eating lunch in the restaurant, and when I went down to the hotel’s beach earlier it was just dozens of empty loungers on the sand.

I can only hope his moronic candidacy continues long enough that he can’t jump back in for re-election for his congressional seat, because he needs to go back to rich dude obscurity.
