Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

When we show up, we win.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

“woke” is the new caravan.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

When I was faster i was always behind.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

All hail the time of the bunny!

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

This fight is for everything.

Three days of rain (needed and a good soaking rain) including a lightning and thunderstorm put the  travel to 2023 Winter Lights in jeopardy.  But all was well and even the moon came out to shine.

And having been to and photographed a display like this I know it’s far more stimulating than a photo can convey. But you came close!

@BretH: Agreed! This is far better photography than the attempt I made with Lightscape in Brooklyn. Thanks, SkyBluePink.

I love that gardens have caught on to having a holiday season as well.

Just visited PA’s Longwood Gardens on Sunday night; last night of its holiday lightfest.  Wow.

Also visited Winterthur the day before.  The DuPonts seem to have had more money than God!

If I’m not mistaken it’s the North Carolina Aboretum.

I could look at photos of lights every day, I think, without getting tired of them.

The hangings were comprised of little flowers

So charming!  Were they real flowers?  I don’t see how they could last.  Paper flowers would disintegrate in the weather.  Again, so charming!

@BG in the HC:  If so, another garden that goes on the list.

Flew into Phoenix one year, and arrival path put us right over a large holiday lights display.  Unexpected, and a lot of fun from the air.

Never tire of seeing beautiful lights at night.

The Saks Fifth Avenue windows and light display in NYC is marvelous, too.  This year’s celebrated Christian Dior.  (Missed the remarkable Dior retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum a few years back; got to write stuff DOWN this year.)

NC Arboretum is just south of Asheville. They put on an amazing display year after year.

@WaterGirl:  No,  appeared to be little plastic flowers.  Couldn’t get close enough to really tell.

Gorgeous lights and pictures, thank you.  I too especially like the first one with its sprinkle of blue and green at the bottom and the Moon competing fiercely with the artificial lighting.
