No Kings – NaijaGal – Marina del Rey/Playa Vista

Last time we went to the No Kings rally in Marina del Rey/Playa Vista. This time, we chose Santa Monica, hometown of Stephen Miller. It was a party-like atmosphere with great music and occupied a huge chunk of Palisades Park. There were so many people that it kind of overflowed onto Ocean Avenue and the cops had to tell us to get out of the street and back onto the sidewalks/ into the park. At some point, they roped off Ocean Avenue because the crowd was so large. I was a little alarmed by the police mounted on horses, but everything stayed calm and friendly and they were very professional.

There was one counter-protestor with a “Trump!” sign and another with a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag but they didn’t seem to know each other and the young man holding the “Trump!” sign was sitting by himself on a park bench looking dejected by the time we left.

We spotted someone who looked a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger drive by the protest without stopping – a woman next to me thought it was him too, but I’m not 100% sure. Protest was done by 12:30 p.m. but my husband and I stayed for a little while longer, danced to Bad Bunny’s “Nueva York,” which someone played over their speakers, and then we left.

I loved this sign. Simple and to the point.

      Thanks so much WaterGirl – third submission attempt is the charm because redis really wasn’t cooperating.
      The 10/18 NoKings protest I attended was in Santa Monica, CA not Marina del Rey/Playa Vista (sorry for the confusion – we attended the first NoKings protest in MDR/Playa Vista).
      I’ve been mulling this excerpt from Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Talents:

      “Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought. To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that the coward fears. To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunists who control the fool. To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen. To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies.To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.”

      America chose a coward, fool, thief, liar, and tyrant all in one in November 2024. How I wish more people had read Octavia Butler.

      @NaijaGal:
        Unfortunately, too many people did not, and still don’t see how those terms apply to Trump.

      So, MTG is now claiming that ICE is in reality, Antifa!

      Progress, I guess.

      I wonder how long before they decide Trump is in reality a Democrat.

      That is happening as we speak. I suppose this is all going to end in mass delusion.
