Forgive me if this was already posted, but my gosh, what an absolute mensch Joe Biden is. Can you imagine Paul Ryan letting some teenager bawl all over his suit?
Yutsano
I’m at the ranch. The border collies have already eaten my face off and tonight we feast on corned beef and cabbage. Tomorrow I think instead of the Japanese steakhouse for my fake birfday dinner we’ll go to the pizza joint I haven’t had in forever. I can compromise.
@RedKitten: Oh yeah. Joe rawks. No you can’t have him. :)

Thread needs moar Homer kitteh.

PPP poll in WI suggests that Romney “surge” after debate is almost entirely due to increased enthusiasm among conservative voters. Also, Romney had a better day in the poll on Friday than Thursday.
NotMax
@redKitten
Sure, if the bawler paid the going market rate, plus dry cleaning surcharge.
Or had a voucher.

Um, nice moustache, Pete.

Texas up on WVU 28-27 after a freakish second quarter.
Fingers crossed, ‘Eers fans…

@Yutsano: Happy birthday, and get your mojo workin, dude!
? Martin
@RedKitten: That moocher looks like he feels entitled to a government provided hug. Why doesn’t he take responsibility for his life and buy his own hugs?
? Martin
@The Snarxist Formerly Known As Kryptik: It is wrong that I want WVU and the Steelers to lose only because Cole is infinitely more entertaining when he’s pissed off than when his teams win?
Hill Dweller
@jwb: Go figure. Willard spent a good portion of that debate pretending to be a Democrat, but wingnuts don’t care because they believe he put the President in his place.
ETA: PPP also said that their Sat. numbers all over the country look a lot like they did pre-debate.
Yutsano
@jeffreyw: My actual b-day is at the end of the month on a Tuesday. Since Monday is a holiday I figured might as well jet on home and celebrate a little something.
Polish the Guillotines
Crap. A’s drop game one. Not surprised against Verlander, but still a bummer. Gotta win tomorrow.
Cassidy
In Firefighter school, today, We spent all day laying hose. That sounds a lot different when spoken. My wife was not amused.

Dude, I have the vapors.

The ranch is in Columbus, OH? WTF?
ETA: For your birthday–Lemongrass, “Sunrise on Fujiyama.”
Yutsano
@Steeplejack: Wait, huh, what?
jwb
@Hill Dweller: I’ve just been following their twitter feed. I haven’t yet seen anything about their Saturday numbers.
JPL
The So. Carolina/Georgia score is a tad surprising.

@Yutsano:
Looked great…
…but imagine my disappointment when I found it wasn’t Seattle. Traveling to Ohio before an election should give your mute finger a workout.
Anyway, I be travelin’ to Seattle for an extended stay in December. I spent 4 long winters in Seattle, so I know what to expect (wet, gray, wet and gray, really wet and really gray, etc). Anyway, looking for recs on funky/small places for eats in or around the city. Worked in Bellevue, so I know (knew?) the Eastside pretty well. Lived in Kent (which, excluding a cool Thai place that I know is gone now, was (is?) a restaurant wasteland). In the last 20 years or so, have hit most of the tourista/large places; any off the beaten path tips on smaller places most appreciated.
Oh, also, there used to be a cool pool hall in a converted auto garage or light warehouse; Capitol Hill if memory serves (and there’s no reason it should; most of the time spent there wasn’t especially sober). Still there? Owned by a Pearl Jammer or Soundgardener or maybe some other grunge artist as I recall.

@Yutsano:
If you mash the button for your first link, you will find that “Fujiyama Steak House of Japan is the premier Japanese restaurant in Columbus.”

@Polish the Guillotines:
Against Fister? He’s been hotter than Verlander lately.
Yutsano
@Steeplejack: Try that one. Poor linkage on my part.
@The Dangerman: Dude. We might have two out-of-towners around at the same time! This could get epic. We’ll definitely either have to do a huge one with you and the Lojasmo clan or even two separate ones. I’m down for either.
This place is in the lead for my favourite restaurant in town right now. But I freely admit I’ve been a cheap hermit and I haven’t taken up CaseyL’s offer to go out and try stuff around town. In my defence though I had surgery not too long after we discussed it and I have had several economic pinches lately. But raise plus easier times should help that.
The Dangerman
@JPL:
Damn! A shutout is rather unexpected (unless the QB got hurt or similar)…
…and what happened to Stanford? I saw them put a hurt on USC (insert boos here); losing to Dub and then having Arizona put up half a century on them?
Wally Ballou
@Polish the Guillotines: Sorry, pal. The Tigers’ inexorable march to a championship will continue unabated tomorrow.
Looks like a beautiful night for baseball in San Francisco. I’m taking the Giants in that series.
Steeplejack
That guy with the ’stache in the clip up top is reminding me that I want to put a question to the Juice music hive mind: what is the Badfinger song that is basically just vocals and 12-string guitar? It wasn’t one of their hits, and I haven’t been able to run it down.
In my mind it’s sort of on a continuum with the Eagles’ “Bitter Creek” and America’s “Donkey Jaw.” Maybe verging toward better Bread (and I mean that in a good way.)
Any help much appreciated.
Yutsano
Halp! I r oppressed!!

Polish the Guillotines
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): Not sure they could fare any worse than against the Big V. Parker kept Cabrerra in the yard today, which is big. Hopefully Milone can do the same tomorrow.

@RedKitten:
I saw the picture on Facebook, but hadn’t read the backstory until now. Tearing up. Again.
Polish the Guillotines
@Wally Ballou: We’ll see. The only people who are shocked about the A’s success this season haven’t been paying attention.
Oh, and ask the Rangers and Angles what they think of the A’s. I hear they’ve got plenty of time on their hands to field questions these days.
Corner Stone
@JPL: In what respect, Charlie?
1badbaba3
@JPL: I’ll say. I knew so.car was good, but I thought uga was better.

TD Texas. Cole is back in cardiac arrest.

In between the penalties and turnovers, the Buckeyes and the Huskers are trying to have a mistake ladened shoot out.

@The Dangerman: The polls tomorrow should be interesting.
gwangung
@The Dangerman: You mean The Garage? On Broadway, with bowling alleys and stuff?
Howard Beale IV
@Polish the Guillotines: Go Tiggers.
Just sayin’….
amk
@efgoldman: cole doesn’t do butthole beer chugging?
Thlayli
The Canes are playing the same crapola defense they’ve been playing all season. The Fighting Sanctimonious Prigs are just marching up and down the field.
The Dangerman
@gwangung:
The Garage and Broadway sound familiar; no bowling alley back in the day though (mid to late 90’s). Recall it being like a big Quonset (sp?) hut. It was a big place, so I could see bowling going in.
ETA: The WVU/UT game is a ball burner!
Polish the Guillotines
@Howard Beale IV: I’ll say this: The Motor City Kitties are a class act. Not that I want them to win, but if the A’s have to fall in the post-season, better to Detroit than to the rat bastard Yanks.
Also: @Wally Ballou: Cueto just left after one batter with an injury. Los Gigantes get a break.
1badbaba3
@Thlayli: What in the running fuck kinda uniforms are notre dame wearing? Reminds me of Two-Face. And not in a good way.
@Corner Stone: Heh, wipe off lipstick, see the pig, also too.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
@Polish the Guillotines:
That would be important if Leyland was throwing out a lineup that had any combination of Boesch, Worth, Raburn and Kelly in it, but the old man finally wised up late in the season and started sticking with Berry and Dirks.
TexasMango
Why does it take 4 minutes to post here? I have never seen that anywhere else?
amk
@TexasMango: cole’s great vista moment. Fuck up a good thing via ‘upgrades’.
Steeplejack
@Yutsano:
Well, that Fujiyama, of course. Duh. Looks good.
Had my introduction to all that at the Korea House in Koza, Okinawa, in the late ’60s. Unbelievably good. Kobe beef, and great kimchi as an appetizer.
Steeplejack
@The Dangerman:
Do you want sand or water on that?
Steeplejack
@amk:
That never stops being funny.

“And while he sees “the blacks” as a pressing problem facing America, the real threat, he wrote, comes from immigrants, “legal and illegal,” who will eventually have to be rounded up and killed.
“(T)he immigration issue, both legal and illegal… will lead to planned wars or extermination,” said Hubbard on page 9 of Letters to the Editor. ”
He mentions committing genocide like it’s no big deal

Passing thought while waiting in line at Walmart:
Can a person be sued for parental malpractice? If so, the Kardashian parents are ripe for the plucking. Anybody can have a kid who is fucked up through no fault of parents. But when various trash mags feature not one, not two, but three of your kids as materialistic trash heaps, it would seem to me that your parenting skills are…questionable.
Another reason for being twitchy every time I have to visit Walmart.

I’m waiting for Cal to get whacked by UCLA tonight. And then my UCLA freshman son will channel his late grandfather and call me up to talk smack.
My dad used to give me hell every time the Bruins beat Cal. He’d be thrilled to know his grandson was taking over for him.

Thanks a lot! Just gave this a quick listen, as I’m going to bed. I’ll check it out more thoroughly tomorrow. It could be this one or maybe “Carry on Till Tomorrow.”
Neither one is quite what I have (vaguely) in my mind, which is starting to make me wonder if I’m thinking of a song by another group that I thought was Badfinger.

So I was having some kind of latte at a sidewalk cafe in…, let’s say Belgium. Because that sounds right.
The man that I was there to meet didn’t speak any of the languages that I spoke (which is one), but we made ourselves understood.
I wanted to exchange diamonds for pure Belgian cow butter.
Yep, Butter.
I was about to become the world-wide kingpin in the butter trade.
But just as we were about to make the exchange… the goddamn ghost of Salvador Dali kicks open the door to the kitchen.
It’s a sliding door….. so this took a few seconds. And honestly, was just not that cool looking.
But there he was. This time he was dressed like Pancho Villa. Ammo across the chest, big hat, chaps, hell… spurs.
He demanded to know what I knew about the exchange rate for pork futures.
I offered him some vodka and gatoraid.
He said yes and sat down on the floor and drank roughly half a fifth of vodka in about 22 seconds. Just an estimate…
That’s when he started to talk about how he hated the smell of paint, and then passed out on my floor.
Anyway, ten seconds later he jumped up, pissed on my couch, and screamed something about “making all fish free”, before jumping out of my living room window.
Dude, the door was open.
So the lesson learned here today is obviously that you should never buy a stolen bike. Because then you have to get rid of it………
