Imbed not loading for me, but I assume it’s Megyn Kelly trying to make pissaide out of Ewe Rickson’s pissant theories of why the womens’ be so illin’. She starts off okay but veers hard into the brush and yeah, I had to stop the vid.
Trollhattan
Also, too, something’s weird about how Eew Rickson holds his head when speaking, like it’s locked in a vise or something. Which sounds awesome if you have access to the handle.
Alex S.
What have you got against lesbians now?

Not gonna watch. The sad thing is that white male as*holes like Erickson are about 90% of the white males that I know over the age of 30. Sigh….

I wish I could stick around for this one but I must go to work. All I will say is maybe we should increase everyones pay, since that seems to be where this idiot draws the line for well adjusted children.

Erickson’s comments were so cartoonishly sexist and misogynistic that the FOX smackdown shouldn’t be surprising… I mean the GOP can plausibly focus just on white people but presumably they can’t abandon an entire gender.

I love how the Right Wing keeps trying to tell us how women should be barefoot and in the kitchen, using highly paid women in positions of societal importance to do so.
But then, they use Lindsay Graham to bash gay marriage.
Mr WereBear and I were watching the new HBO movie about Liberace, Behind the Candelabra, which is excellent BTW. We both loved an early scene where the young protagonist is viewing a Liberace performance and whispers, “I can’t believe all these people love him even though he’s gay.”
And the friend whispers back, “They don’t know he’s gay.”

For those who would like to read some of the exchange instead of watching it, there’s this from Media Matters. I haven’t watched the clip to see how much farther she goes, but I think this probably gets the gist of it. Just from the transcript you can tell that she’s clearly pissed. She probably never thought that her male colleagues had such massive disrespect for her personally just because she’s a woman until yesterday.
I will say, even though I know where the attitude comes from, I was struck by this part of the exchange:
Megyn Kelly – not a feminist, but someone who is offended by the idea that it’s wrong for women to be treated as equals to men in the workforce. There should be a word for “someone who is offended by the idea that it’s wrong for women to be treated as equals to men in the workforce.” Perhaps “womanist” or something of that nature?
J.W. Hamner
@efgoldman:
No, I know, but I think even conservative women who think birth control is for prostitutes are going to be offended by the idea that the Animal Kingdom sez they should be barefoot, pregnant, and making Erick a sammich.

She’s waving her finger at Erick. Quotes 59 years of scientific research and asks him how his science is better than the science of all these experts. And then he says experts are politically motivated. Unless they’re on his side, of course.
She covers the racism angle by saying that experts used to say that children of interracial marriages were inferior–biologically inferior. And that’s how they justified keeping interracial marriage illegal. “Tell that to Barack Obama!” She’s pissed. Makes me wonder if she voted for Obama.

@NonyNony: that’s not all that surprising that she’d say she’s not a feminist but basically agree with the basic tenants of feminism. Happens a lot in politics, “feminism” has come to be defined, for good or ill, as something beyond “an equal day’s pay for an equal day’s work” or equal opportunity. Much like affirmative action – people agree with the basic idea that you should have equal opportunity, but 20 years of people insisting that equal opportunity isn’t the goal but equal outcome or better outcomes (see Limbaugh, Hannity, Sowell, et al), people who don’t have the time/interest to really think about it resort to “they tukarjerbs”… Outside the truly misogynistic, xenophobic, racist assholes, most people just run with the soundbite. So Megyn says she’s not a feminist because she thinks feminism is something that it’s mostly not (extremes aside in all this stuff, of course).

Still – so many of those women around me have said “fuck it, I am a feminist – bite me asshole if you don’t like it” in the last 2-3 years that it somehow was jarring to me seeing Kelly say it.

Megyn Kelly, as Jon Stewart has all-too-humorously highlighted on at least a few occasions, loves loves loves! to champion positions that she herself is personally vested in. Otherwise, she’s a reliable shill for the GOP in grand FNC tradition, so it’s pretty hard for me to pay her much mind. Nevertheless, it’s hard not to love a good catfight* on Fox.
Meanwhile, GOP Outreach to women continues swimmingly. Speaking of GOP Outreach … Schlafly’s “Fuck the Hispanics- The only vote the GOP needs is Whitey’s” is even more GOP Win!

I only lost a few brane cells before I bailed. Neither of the geniuses decrying the change in breadwinners seemed to be heading toward arguing that maybe having so much of the nation’s wealth transferred into the hands of so few had anything to do with the situation. That leaves them shovelling sand against the tide with half-baked pseudoscientific arguments. What they don’t want to admit is that this change started happening during the Reagan years. These fools are masters of throwing shit at people and then complaining about how they stink.
Shakezula
But I think this highlights how much the Right has become the goat in the Great Grifter Hunt. You have a political party full of beady-eyed freaks screaming about traditional family values and enemies of the American way and generally painting a picture of giant angry pen15es out to get the white man (and his woman). Naturally the screaming attracts beady-eyed Lards of the Universe like Rush and Erick who make money by saying outrageous shit to an appreciative audience. The freaks, because they’re sick and stupid notice that the lards are getting lots of attention, so they start becoming more blatant in their message of fear and hate.
And then they wonder why they can’t win elections outside of custom made districts.

I despise Megan Kelley more than Erikson. Unfairness is unfair only when she is personally effected. All else is O.K. Does she even watch her own channel? Short lunch and no phone meetings, so I have to type as I listen to this dreck.
Glad to hear that the GOP outreach program continues its proud march.
I will say that Dobbs is a retrol insecure sexist jackass who cannot show respect to a younger woman, but I will say in his favor that at least he refers to the underlying economic reasons for the changing composition of working and middle class homes. But sadly, Dobbs is too confused and and incapable of sustained argument to keep off the sexist stuff.
Erickson is hopeless.
Amazing that the focus on stuff you don’t like happening is that people doing the stuff you don’t like happening are bad or flawed people. Even Kelly now is confused and talking about people’s choices.
Yeah, I am sure lower income women, who are responsible for most of the increase all made the decision that they want to try to run a household all by themselves on one income because, dammit, they want it all. Shame on those self-centered narcissists.
The denial of the economic reality created by failed reactionaries and fake centrists (who champion policies that happen to favor the rich) is stunning.
“Economic classism” in the U.S. is just a big an issue as racism and sexism, and funny that rich corporate hacks and flunkies on the media just can’t find a way to talk about it.
OK, the damn thing is over and I can enjoy my lunch.

@Rafer Janders:
You needed someone at least a bit older than 17 since the actor would have to play the part from ages 17 through 28 (which is how old Thorson was when Liberace died) and it’s easier to use makeup to make someone look younger than it is to age them. But, yeah, having a 40-year-old play even 28 is pushing it a little far.
ETA: Also, I’m assuming that the casting happened at least in part because Douglas wanted to be comfortable with the man he’d be doing fairly explicit sex scenes with, and who doesn’t want to sleep with Matt Damon?

@rk: I disagree. I read ‘The Compassion of LBJ’ section of a Robert Caro book. Even though every good thing LBJ did was motivated by how much better it made things for LBJ, at least he still did them. Eh. That just makes Kelly a generic Republican – completely incapable of putting themselves into someone else’s shoes but utterly enraged when they find out it’s their own ox that is being gored. She’s kind of awful, but no more so than any other woman who votes Republican. And hell she just done did a public service by ripping Erickson and Dobbs a new one on their show while they condescended to her – older ladies across the country who are forced to sit and watch this dreck because their husbands own the remote control just found out that there’s a dissenting view on whether or not they count as people. So at least she serves a positive purpose.
Erickson, on the other hand, is a loathesome individual. Just truly, truly awful. It’s hard to find someone in the public sphere outside of Congress or the Supreme Court who I have more contempt for than Erickson. Even the useless third or fourth generation heirs of Gilded Age robber barons and hotel magnates are less contemptible than Erick Erickson.
