In 2003, Lamb and Lynx Gaede, 11-year-old twins were the white nationalist pop duo “Prussian Blue,” named after their blue eyes and the infamous chemical poison used to kill Jews and other enemies of the Nazi regime during World War II.
Today, the twins, aged 20, have renounced their lifelong teaching and according to Lamb, “My sister and I are pretty liberal now.” The primary reason? Pot. Mary Jane. Blunts. Spliffs. Wacky Weed.
One of the sisters, Lynx, contracted cancer at age 14, and after lots of different pain medications for her treatment, started using pot medicinally after getting a medical marijuana card. Lamb, who had scoliosis and chronic back pain aquired a card as well, and it led to the dawning of the age of Aquarius.
They said the drug has reignited their creativity, which they now channel in other ways, such as painting.
‘We just want to come from a place of love and light,’ Lamb said, adding, ‘I think we’re meant to do something more – we’re healers. We just want to exert the most love and positivity we can.’
I can’t think of a better reason to legalize pot than that it would have the effect of reversing years of radical indoctrination for some users, and while we’re at it, we can tax the shit out of it. Even Oklahoma has bills in the legislature to legalize the sale, possession, and use of pot that stand a fair chance of passing due to the potential tax revenue. We’ll go down fighting on gay rights, but we’ll do it with red eyes and a case of the munchies.
JPL
hmmmm… The twins need to read a few history books..

I’d be curious to hear what their parent’s say about this.
After all, these twins weren’t born racist @$$holes.
Are their parent’s fuming?
Or did they have a change, due to their daughter’s change?
Neutron Flux
I understand that this is a serious thing, but I just smiled and chortled when I read that. I hope the bills pass. Oklahoma is closer to me than Colorado. I am free to mention this as I am now retired from the nuclear business.

Don’t we all, my little Lamb, don’t we all?
(PS: Should we send them a WWII bibliography?)

@JPL: Baby steps, brother. Baby steps. You don’t undo a lifetime’s worth of indoctrination very quickly.

I’m somewhat surprised that none of the reservations that sell tax free smokes have expanded their inventory to include MJ.
Schlemizel
Carlin did a routine about pot that included the line “then pot swept the neighborhood – and gang fights went away man”
So its not a recently noticed phenomenon. But I do wonder what the long-term impact would be on a society that replaced booze with grass.

No, they’re crushed that the girls hit puberty and are now past the age of consent.
RuhRow_Gyro
If the twins were aged 11 in the year 2003, they would be aged either 21 or 22 in the year 2014. They would not be 20 years old.
Marijuana is not good for the brain.

I would think that free-flowing pot is likely to make at least as many paranoids as it does peace, love, and joy “healers”. And heightened paranoia in all those gun fetishists in CO and OK is not likely to have a good outcome.
Cervantes
@Schlemizel:
An old friend, Ed Brecher, looked at this question a long time ago. Here is a copy of his report available via Powell’s. (I see that this particular copy is “heavily underlined”…)
PS: I should say that your question is covered in one chapter (“58: Can marijuana replace alcohol?”); the rest of the book addresses other questions.

Uh, regarding taxing the shit out of it. I have chronic pain, and I’ve found only one effective pain reliever that is at once both non-addictive and non-toxic. It’s MEDICINE. Medicare doesn’t cover it, though. And you think it’s a good idea to tax the shit out of it?

@OzarkHillbilly: What a sad story. I couldn’t help but wonder, though, as I read the family criticizing (justifiably) the governmental process that helped lead to this – where were they? Sure, their mentally ill brother was too proud to ask for help from his family, but if he was so badly off, why weren’t they checking up on him from time to time?
Omnes Omnibus
@IowaOldLady: Meh. My complaint is that there has been a 20-30 mph wind blowing since the beginning of December. It does vary in direction though, so I guess that’s a plus.

OzarkHillbilly
@IowaOldLady: Owww… that is a problem.
OzarkHillbilly
@jenn: Yeah, that was my second thought too.
Ferdzy
@IowaOldLady:
I have that problem too, sometimes, at least on my feet. Get an old pair of socks, and when you go to bed slather Vaseline on your feet, then put the socks on and wear them all night. You may need to repeat this for several nights if your feet are really bad. But it is amazingly good at helping them heal up.
If you can get a big tube of Polysporin, that might be even better, but the Vaseline will work.
JPL
@Ferdzy: You should only use polysporin for a few days though.

Waddaya know, an instant panacea for all our social and worldly woes – legalize MJ.
To paraphrase that great seer of American politics, Herbert Hoover, ” They’ll be pot in every chicken.”
Gex
@pluege: A certain amount of the paranoia around pot is caused by it’s illegality though. Make it legal, and there are a lot of people I know who would allow themselves to enjoy it who don’t like to partake in it now because they get too afraid of getting caught when they use.
IowaOldLady
@Ferdzy: Thanks. I’ll give it a try.
My hope is that I’ll wake up tomorrow and it will be 60 degress.
FVB
I had the same cracked hands and feet problem (symptom of psoriatic arthritis). No lotions worked. After I started with methotrexate it went away.

The Swastika is an ancient symbol, which unfortunately got co-opted by Nazi’s.
If there’s a symbol out there that’s about “heritage not hate”, I think the Swastika should be on the list because none of the people – Hindus and Buddhists, mostly – who have Swastikas as part of their heritage had anything to do with Nazi’s and would not be eligible to be part of the Master Race because of high melanin content in their epidermis.
doug r
@Gex: Yes!
Soonergrunt
@gene108: Some of the buildings at University of Oklahoma that were built before WWII have these symbols carved in stone because it’s also a power symbol in some Native American religions. They have been covered over.
The 45th Infantry Division (now 45th Inf Brigade) used to have this symbol as its insignia before the Nazis took it for their use.
Schlemizel
@gene108:
It was an MJ joke.
Soonergrunt
@Raenelle: If you hold that bonafide medicinal use should be taxed at a lower rate, or even not at all, I’d agree with that. But that’s not the VAST majority of purchases in jurisdictions where it is legal.

There are swastikas all over Southern California — this pond in Pasadena was built in 1906.
Many people don’t realize that the Nazis hijacked an existing symbol that was familiar to a lot of people to create their flags, but frankly that’s pretty much how they always operated — steal stuff from other people and claim it was yours all along.
Amir Khalid
@Soonergrunt:
There’s also a risk, I would think, that recreational pot users might resort to pestering doctors for prescriptions, and that some unscrupulous doctors might start selling pot prescriptions.
Mnemosyne
@Schlemizel:
The Aveeno Eczema Care cream is also really good. It won’t get rid of existing eczema for me (prescription cream seems to be the only thing that will do that), but it doesn’t irritate the skin and keeps the lesions from returning once the prescription cream gets them to leave.
Robert Sneddon
@gene108: Swastikas appear on Google maps if you’re looking at Japanese towns and cities as they are used as a marker for temples and shrines.

@Schlemizel:
MJ?
Sorry for being not up on all the acronyms.
Raenelle
@Gex: I see your point. We shouldn’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Baby steps. Legal is good.
OTOH, I don’t think we ought to be going at this the way Obama went at the budget deal–opening with all the compromises he was willing to make. If, in order to get it legalized, we must submit to a sin tax, OK. But as the opening proffer? From its supporters?
Laertes
@Mnemosyne:
I’ve heard many people say that many people don’t know the history of the swastika. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t know the history of the swastika. I think everyone likes thinking they’re smarter than everyone else, and it flatters one’s ego to imagine that one knows something that many others don’t know, so people are ready to believe that some widely-known fact isn’t nearly so widely-known.
Origuy
@gene108: Marijuana. The line “Have you ever look at…” is a play on how stoned people are supposed to talk. I don’t remember ever saying that, but then I wouldn’t would I?
There are swastikas in the tiles on the walls of the Men’s Gymnasium at Indian University. I remember seeing them when I went there as a kid for swimming lessons. When I went back there last year, they had put up a sign explaining them. The building went up in 1917.
Origuy
That’s Indiana University, of course.

@gene108: MJ = marijuana.
Also too, was anybody else here hanging out at Sadly No during the great Prussian Blue thread? It’s going on like 9 years of comments now.

Taxing the shit out of it is a great idea. Besides, its still cheaper on the black market, so if you need it on the cheap :P
briber
@gene108:
this is a classic tv trope
read the entry for Doonesbury
Soonergrunt
@Amir Khalid: True. But that’s illegal, and pretty tightly controlled already.
Dave
@Ian: That’s the thing though taxing it is fine but you don’t want to tax it so much that the black market remains viable. It defeats a good portion of the purpose of legalization.
Mnemosyne
@Laertes:
If you’ve never met anyone who didn’t know the history of the swastika, why does my city get complaints every year that certain lampposts that were put up 1924 have “Nazi” symbols on them?

I’ve had good luck with Bag Balm, which I’ve recommended to great success to a couple friends with persistent finger cracks. My aunt on the high plains of Casper, WY had a tub of it next to her kitchen sink. If it works in that dry climate, it should work for you too.

Hahahahaha. So funny.
Well, given that most of the teatards and wingnutariat are white males, I suppose there was always hope for those girls to turn it around. Glad they did.
Shame about their illnesses though. I hope they can turn them around. Also, how bizarre for both of them to acquire such different but severe illnesses so young. What are the chances?

Not to be nutpicking (yeah, yeah), but Prussian Blue is NOT an “infamous chemical used by the Nazis”. It’s a frickin’ pretty blue dye used by machinists to paint a metal piece before scribing lines showing them where to machine it. Used it plenty back in them “old days”, hope it’s not toxic.
Arclite
@Ken deFarmer: Ken, you’re right it’s not the chemical itself, that was Zyklon B. But Prussian blue residue sometimes forms after using Zyklon B, but not always. The lack of Prussian blue in some gas chambers is used as evidence by Holocaust deniers that it didn’t take place. The girls actually referenced it directly:
Ken deFarmer
@Arclite: Now THAT’s nutpicking! My tell to the deniers is this: My father was a CC liberator in the war. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the day he told me about what he saw.
Raenelle
@Mnemosyne: Because it’s also medicine. And it’s not nearly as harmful as alcohol or tobacco. It’s more like Tylenol . . . if Tylenol were non-toxic. Does Tylenol have a sin tax on it?
Actually, until it becomes possible in this country to tax our rich people, I don’t really have the patience to mull over the advantages of any other taxes.
If, to get pot legalized, we have to submit to a huge tax, it’s worth it. But don’t pretend to me that it’s the right thing to do in and of itself. Pot smokers–medical or recreational–are not the big tax balkers in this country. Once we’re back to taxing the riches around 70% or more, and once we’ve quit funding a military to go around the world to protect corporations–once those two are done, maybe it would be time to consider some “sin” taxes on the 99%.

We had a neighbor, Don, who’s bull bred our milk cow. He was a serious Christian who enjoyed debating Bible verses with anyone.
While we visited with him, he told us of being in the infantry in WW II and occupying a concentration camp. The look in his eyes was like he had been there yesterday! This was in about 1978 – 80, so at least 35 years after the events he was remembering.
He told us that being just GIs they gave the survivors candy bars and other foods from their C-Rations, which in many cases killed the recipient, as they were too far gone for anything but warm broth.
Once the medics caught up, they began to turn the situation around. I believe they killed as many prisoners with starvation and exposure as they did with the death camps.
Don was pretty old back then, if he was still alive he would have to be 110. He went to the bank, gave them his deed to his farm they had the mortgage on, and said “See you later, I’m going to Florida!” He was a character, they don’t make them like that any more.
