Looks like both early games are blowouts again!

Ran 4.5 miles at a sub-7:00/mile pace; rewarding myself thusly with some tasty spaghetti pomodoro and Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye.
The past few weeks have felt like an eternity at work…I wish the weekends were longer.
Cassidy
@raven: I still have faith in Tennessee.

I am going to be googling “how to fix a broken water heater” all weekend, cause I sure enough do not have enough money to hire someone to fix it.
raven
@Cassidy: The better hit their throws.
raven
@Litlebritdiftrnt: Not much you can fix. Is it electric or gas? Is there water on the ground under it?
Cassidy
@raven: Or hit the white guy.
raven
@Litlebritdiftrnt: Here’s a start.

Awaiting opening day on Monday.

RIP David A. Trampier, the original cover artist for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.

@Litlebritdiftrnt: This is Samuri Appliance repair. They have walked me through washer, dryer, range and fridge repair.

I am already dreading the end of the this season’s GOT. I love me some Khaleesi.

I usually go back to Baton Rouge on weekends since I started my new job here in Nola. I spend the week staying with my sister and then on Friday’s I just drive to BR cause sometimes you just need to sleep in your own bed.
Well today, I’m staying the night because tomorrow I go to get the keys to my new apartment in the NOLA Metro area. I’m excited, but I still won’t be moving my stuff until the middle of April. I just don’t have the time to do anything else. Tomorrow after I pick up the key I’ll go ahead and drive to BR and come back for the work week.
All I can manage for the next 3 weeks will be packing and trashing what I can and getting ready for the final move.
PsiFighter37
@Old Dan and Little Ann: I haven’t read the books, so I am just about ready for anything they throw at me after the Red Wedding.
Well, unless they kill one of the remaining Stark kids. That’d be kind of cruel.
I am also stoked for the release of the new beer, which is coming out on Monday here in NYC.
Roger Moore
I’m going to an opening at LA MOCA tomorrow, and on Sunday I’ll spend some time with my brother, who’s in town for the weekend. Should be enough to keep me busy.
Roger Moore
@lamh36:
You should pack up some inessential stuff and move it to the new place each week when you go back and forth. It won’t be enough to make a dent in the real move, but it will be enough to make the new place seem a bit more like home.

Watching X-Men 2: X-Men United and realizing it really was the best of the original trilogy. Best all around storyline, best use of key character powers and also pretty much action packed and good pace.
Is it just me, but does it seem like the 2nd movie in comic book film trilogies seem to always be the best? Even though the first movies are awesome, there is so much explaining having to be done so that audiences who are not familiar with the comic book lore can be introduced to the characters, that sometimes it loses a lil bit. The one film trilogy that IMHO seems to have started strong is Superman I, but all in all, I’d probably talke Superman II over I (“Kneel Before Zod”!).
So anyone agree? Was X2 better than X1 and X3? Was Superman I better than Superman II, and III/IV? Wasn’t Ironman 2 better than Ironman 1, 2, 3 (actually, I prerfer the original Ironman more than 2 or 3)? Was Spiderman 2 (Toby McGuire Mix) better than Spiderman 1?

I’m feeling tempted to adopt a pair of three year old parakeets that are posted at the MN Animal Humane Society’s website (they must be adopted as a pair). I have a 14 year old cat that is too old to be a climber. Please offer me some advice. I’ve never ‘owned’ birds before.
Cassidy
@lamh36: I can’t speak for X-Men; I refuse to watch them. I’m too much of a purist to enjoy it. I’m not knocking people who like it but it doesn’t work for me. The McGuire Spider-Man is good taken as a whole, but no single movie stands out to me. I like Garfield’s Parker better.
raven
@Cassidy: Holyshit dawg.
Jebediah, RBG
I will probably continue to enjoy this weeks-long ear-worm – Mike Doughty, I Hear The Bells. It has some really nice little guitar doodley-doos. (Pretty sure that is the conservatory-approved term.)
Then get Chucky to take her pills and run with her over to MIL’s (where wife is surgery-recovering because it would be impossible to keep Juno off the parts that are healing) for a dinner that I am assured will not be too spicy for me to eat.
lamh36
@Roger Moore: yeah, that is def my plan. I’ve got a lot of things to trash and nothing that I really am attached to enough that I can’t just chuck it.
Aside from my bedroom set, my sofa set and my flat screens I’m not wed to anything. I have a midsize SUV and the majority of the things asides from those I mentioned, I moved in my SUV from DFW.
Old Dan and Little Ann
@PsiFighter37: I stopped reading halfway through the 5th book. I figured why bother to get so far ahead of the show. I am psyched I still have more to read.
lamh36
@Cassidy: I’ll tell ya what, I love Superman I, but damned if I don’t love me some Superman 2 more, even now with the dated special effects, I still love it and come on, you can beat “Kneel Before Zod” and one of the top movies line in recent century of movies right.
SiubhanDuinne
@lamh36:
Very exciting times. Try to keep from getting too stressed and exhausted. I’m so glad everything is working out so well for you!
Sailor
I know I don’t comment here very often often, but I lurk a lot, especially on open threads.
I just wanted to say that the Open Thread the other night from Betty Cracker inviting jokes made me smile a bunch of times. I shared a few of them with other friends who were also feeling down.
Thanks folks. (I didn’t phrase that well, I hope you all know what I meant.)
Cassidy
@lamh36: Definitely. Two was the best of the bunch. I also really enjoyed Superman Returns and Man of Steel.
Cassidy
@raven: That ending was awesome. Both teams left it out there.
raven
@Cassidy: Truly. That’s why I watch. Now I have to see if I can make these next two.
Cassidy
@raven: Ran hose and pump drills today. I’d be out but I want to watch the MW title fight on Spike.
Pogonip
@raven: I love Samurai Appliance Repair! One of the best sites on the web in the non-fat-fluffy-cat division.
raven
@Cassidy: FYI
Study: MMA brain injury risk higher
Not sure this is news.
raven
@Pogonip: The dude went to Tech I think but I’ve really saved some dough. The timer switch in a dryer is a beeetch and that damn drum pivot was a bear solo.
Cassidy
@raven: Unfortunately no. There seems to have been a lot of late stoppages lately that’s been souring me on the sport. I’m not sure how they’re going to reconcile it, but I’m finding myself enjoying it less and less.
Pogonip
@lamh36: What Roger said. Never enter the new place without carrying a trunk load in, no matter how tired you are (you can unpack it later). And never leave the old place without filling the trunk.
John M. Burt
@lamh36: “Kneel before Zod” is certainly a memorable scene (as reflected in everything from the Kryptonian “salute of honor” on Smallville to the cartoon which shows Neil Gaiman standing in line behind Terence Stamp until a passerby objects), but I still think Stamp’s best line was when the President moans “Oh, God!” and Zod think he’s mispronouncing his name.
Stamp’s “Zod” was what tickled at the back of my mind when I read a story set in an alternate world. It had already been shown that this world’s Superman was a rotter, but I was still chilled by:
Woman: What should I call you? Superman? Clark?
Superman: Actually, I’d prefer you call me by my true name.
Woman: What is your true name?
Superman: Zod.
Just that one syllable, and you knew that this other Earth was in even bigger trouble than you already knew…..
As for what I’m doing this weekend, mostly it’ll be writing stories for posting online, in hope of making a little money (or better yet, a lot).
Mnemosyne
@lamh36:
Since you have a little extra money from working two jobs, it may be worth it to your sanity to hire movers to bring the big stuff (sofa, TV, etc.) rather than trying to haul it yourself.

@gbear:
I’ve never owned birds before, but the organization adopting them out should be able to give you some good advice.
As far as the cat goes, even elderly kitties can become surprisingly sprightly when a tasty, tasty bird is within sight, so I would make sure you have a secure place to put the parakeet cage behind a closed door when you’re not home to supervise.

Buying a 10″ compound mitre saw tomorrow. I’ve been cutting wood for the projects with a 7 1/2″ circular saw and the next ones will go much more quickly with the mitre saw. The mitre saw, and our newly purchased full-kit Kreg pocket hole jig will enable me to step up the quality of the finished pieces.
TheSailor
@Sailor: Did I get my ‘nym wrong?
Steeplejack
@Higgs Boson’s Mate:
I was going to mention the Kreg system in that last Sunday garden thread but didn’t want to come off as getting up in your grille and promoting expensive, overkill equipment. But I loves me some Kreg action. I have been thinking about my next project and find myself thinking in terms of Kreg only or Kreg as much as possible.
ETA: I forgot the obligatory “What saw are you getting?”
Mnemosyne
@Higgs Boson’s Mate:
@Steeplejack:
If you can afford the extra bux, a SawStop is worth it for the safety factor alone. We have one at work and it’s a pretty amazing machine (and, obviously, is a very good table saw as well).
Replacing the cartridge after a stop can be a little expensive, but it’s better than losing a finger. And, yes, they did the hot dog test for us live when they installed it.
Steeplejack
@Mnemosyne:
Those are awesome. I would love to have the space for a table saw, but right now I’m limited to jigsaw, circular saw, drill and some hand tools.
Higgs Boson's Mate
@Steeplejack:
Loves me the Kreg. Being able to make strong joints without having the fasteners show is just the best. The full-on kit was a bit pricey to be sure. The quality it will add and the time it will save more than make up for the initial cost.
I’m buying a Kobalt mitre saw from Lowe’s. There are all sorts of good ones, the Kobalt just felt the best to me. I’ve bought some other Kobalt tools and they have so far been beyond sturdy and well designed. They fit my mitts.

@PsiFighter37:
I saw this in the Guardian today; a teacher, to get his high school class to behave, tells them he’s read all the GOT books & if they don’t settle down, he’ll put the names of the next character to die on the board. I love it.
Higgs Boson's Mate
@Mnemosyne:
That is a great invention. The price is at the moment far beyond my budget. I did spend decades as a machinist working with equipment that could kill me so working safe is always the first thing. Safety glasses, dry runs, and a fondness for keeping my digits have served me well so far.
Steeplejack
@Higgs Boson’s Mate:
Amen to that.

@Walker:
Re: RIP Trampier — sad. Thanks for posting that.
Xantar
@lamh36:
And The Dark Knight was much better than Batman Begins.
Although I actually thought Iron Man 2 was awful and certainly not as good as Iron Man 1. But you can reconcile this if you consider that Iron Man 2 was not part of the Iron Man series and is instead a prequel to The Avengers.
WaterGirl
@raven: How cool is that!!?!!
WaterGirl
@Sailor: Second that!
My personal favorite:
@lamh36: Going back and forth can be so tiring. Very exciting that you are almost home.
