Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

The National Guard is not Batman.

The revolution will be supervised.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Commentor Elmo (from the DC area) mentioned she was in the Windy City, and loca Eric S suggested an after-work meetup. The two of them will be at the George Street Pub, 2858 N Halsted St. (773-661-6635) on Tuesday evening starting 6:30pm CST.

Note from Eric:

I will be there just after 6PM. I’m a regular. They sponsor my softball team. Anyone asking for Eric from Sunday Softball should be directed to me.

I’m gonna assume lurkers, spouses & acquaintances welcome, as usual!

Thanks for front-page treatment, AL! I haven’t managed to make it to any of the DC area meetups, so this is a great chance.

I’m going to try to come. I’ve been agitating for a (another?) Chicago area meet up forever.

I don’t actually know for sure who works Tuesday nights but I figure there’s a good chance I’ll know someone. Hope to see a bunch of you there.

@Elmo: not to raise hope too much, but if I get there it will be accompanied by the girls. But we should be able to swing it since it’s early enough.
