Arrrrrgh.

While we’re looking at these early returns, everyone remember that low population states, and low pop. precincts tend to finish counting first – which gives the earliest results a right-leaning tinge.
So don’t panic.
Tom Levenson
@Tom Levenson: which is to say, I wanted it called on first closing, w. a unanimous electorate.

TPM is showing West Virginia called for Hillary. That’s either a stupid mistake or the first sign of a very long night for Republicans.

Probably an error. AP is calling it for Trump.

Indiana voter here, major voting machine issues. Filled out HRC for President then selected straight dem ticket for downballot. The machine selected a straight Rep ticket. I deselected straight dem and the machine did not deselect straight Rep ticket. Then went through each line item and the system would only deselect the Rep and allow me to select Dem unless i clicked on each box about 6 times. I had a young guy across me who said “what the fuck” several times, then said he was giving up. On these machines you need to select “Done”, review your selections, then click “Done” again to print out your ballot, then go to a ballot box and insert it. I noticed this man walked out the door without ever going to the ballot box. Wonder how widespread this is.

The Huffpo map also shows both NC and FL as trending Trump, and *that* makes me nervous.

Wrapping up my poll watching shift in South PA. Maybe 10% of the ones that came through from 5 til 7:45 were D in this precinct. Almost 80% turnout. Looking forward to seeing more positive results from other places.

I’m not afraid – I know this is all but in the bag, and might be over damned fast if reports from Florida mean what they sound like – but I am heart attack tense and stressed.

@debbie: Ted was a horrible candidate. My understanding was that he was lacking even when he managed to win, but he couldn’t overcome the baggage of being Governor during the recession. Now, I live in Ohio and frankly I didn’t see him try to overcome it. I was shocked by how few commercials he ran and how little he did to argue his case. I really wish Sittenfeld had won the nomination. He probably would have lost as well, but he would have had a start as a young Democrat on the way up. He was pretty progressive as well.

I live in Illinois where PHOTO ID IS NOT REQUIRED for Election Day voting. So I get to my polling place and an election judge asked for identification. I politely, but firmly told him: ‘You KNOW that under Illinois law IDs are not required to vote, all you need is your signature.” He sheepishly agreed, but I wondered if he was pulling that stunt all day. Then again, I live in a Republican-controlled county so I’m not surprised.
BlueDWarrior
I should not have this level of anxiety over the election, especially since the trend lines are about what they should be, but goddamnit I want the cheeto-colored shitgibbaon to lose by 100 EVs and the Reps to be clearly under 50 Senate seats and it’s probably not quite going to happen that way (the Shitgibbon should lose but not in a historic blowout, and the Dems will probably split the difference with Kaine as tiebreaker).

Florida, again, is not in any manner needed by Hillary; only that it kills small hands if he loses it. That said, heavy turn out bodes well for Hillary but that in no way guarantee’s a win. Don’t worry, Florida is NOT needed. Assume it is lost and realize that does not change the outcome for Hillary. No one was counting that for her min win of 273.

I am optimistic we can run the table in NC. Cooper is up by nearly 9 – I think he wins. Clinton still up by 6 – looking good. Ross only by 3…so really depends on how much we can drag her over the line.

I just noticed that on the Guardian map, if you zoom in on the map it turns into individual precincts, which is kind of cool… I guess.

Damn, the Guardian keeps flipping Texas between leans Republican and leans Democrat. I expect it to be red at the end of the night, but that’s surprising that it’s that close at all.

ETA: Josh Marshall: 8:16 PM: Florida is really tight. But it seems like Clinton should have a decent amount of votes in South Florida to pull it out. Should.
sounds like it’s the Panhandle vs Dade County?
Cermet
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Florida is going to be close and Hillary may or may not be on the winning side; again, IRRELEVANT! That said, if NH goes Hillary, I really feel the election is in the bag for Hillary but it will take the West to decide the final win. Sorry but that makes it appear this could be a long night … ugh. Fl with 88% of the vote is a tie. So, looks to be a long night but Hillary will win if NH or Nevada goes her way.
Miss Bianca
@Omnes Omnibus: Unworthy, was it? (ducking).

Wheeeee. NYT (at the moment) has FL with 60% precincts reporting, ~7million votes total, and the Dumpsterfire has an 18 vote lead.

@PsiFighter37: It will be wonderful to get rid of McCrory and his transphobic law. NC deserves better.

Gin and tonic. +4. Probably going to start being just gin in the next hour, though also dosing caffiene (funny, I can’t make the spellcheck like that) so I don’t fall asleep on this thing. Grrg, Young won in IN.

OK, I’m going to keep MSNBC up on the flat screen monitor, but it’s on mute. It was Tweety who did it for me. Nothing he said in particular, just don’t like his voice on general principles. Now looking for a good site to check out local races here and there while silent-Rachel and silent excited-about-graphics-Kornacki do their thing.

It is mutual assured stupidity. None of the stations want you to change channels and find a more interesting program, so they all serve up ads at the same time.

Broward and Palm Beach have very little results. Once that comes in, Trump is toast.
Cermet
So they have )currently) Hillary leading in Texas (lol.) Not happening but funny; Hillary has increased her lead in NC! FRankly, I wasn’t expecting that at all and didn’t really think she had that good of a chance. If by chance that falls her way, the night won’t be long after all. Still, not counting on that and watching NH closely.

@John S.: You did hear me say, “Nobody lie to me,” right?

Wonderful anecdote from Norman Lloyd on TCM.

We need to blow it out at the state level in 2020 so we can redistrict in a much more fair manner.

@Amir Khalid: Hopefully we won’t!!
Voting turnout was great yesterday and today in this little part of the southern Midwest. Souls-to-polls, and 4 hour long lines at times for early voting on the past couple of days.
Today’s line at my polling place was a beautiful melange of ages, ethnicities, religions, and family units, reflective of this very urban neighborhood which sits just miles from rural Appalachia.
LOTS of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and fosters bringing their sweet little ones with them to the polls, and talking about why voting matters.
In general, the mood was positive and warm, but with an underlying tense seriousness that I can’t recall seeing in all my years of voting. Neighbors on our individual streets know each other well, but even casually acquainted neighbors from three and four streets away seemed to be making an extra effort to lend a hand, start a conversation with one another, hold a tired, fussing baby while Dad or Mom filled out a ballot or went to the restroom, so that nobody felt the need to leave without casting their vote.
Too many good people to count in this neighborhood have been hard hit and brutally battered by Bush era policies and their fallout. People here know this election and all that it represents matters; they know that we are all in this together, for our friends next door and for our friends all around the world.
Let’s hope that was the case all across the country today. I am hopeful and frightened and tired beyond explanation tonight.
Cats, hot toddy, quilt, and book are needed, stat!

@Mike J:
I assume that the big totals are from early voting, which the Democrats have been pushing really hard.
Mister Papercut
@mai naem mobile: That would be literally every election in Virginia that I’ve watched like this: Kaine for Governor, Webb for Senate, Obama 2008, Kaine for Senate, Obama 2012. I’m trying not to panic… yet.
Ceci n'est pas mon nym
I’m also watching the PA Dept of State website, which just started posting some counts a few minutes ago. Gary Johnson is the big winner here so far with 64% of the vote. Trump 13%, Clinton 11%, Stein 11%
Of course they only have results from 0.32% of the votes, 29 out of 9162 districts. So it’s possible that the final breakdown may be slightly different. :-)

Some weeks back, I heard about the Dems pulling money out of Florida believing it to be a lost cause. Disappointing that the ratfucking waterboy is returning to the Senate.

I voted at home last week, but I wanted to feel the excitement so I went to look at the voting in the town I was working in today. Maine, 2nd district. I drove by at 10 am and walked inside at 6pm. By 6, the giant America for Trump sign that looked illegally located at the entrance this and had been removed. There was a long line waiting to be registered and vote. I went in and talked to the town manager, who said that they had been warned 9 months ago that turnout would be huge, maybe close to 90%, because of the large number of referendums on the ballot. (Including marijuana, gun control, minimum wage, tax on wealthy for more money for education.)
So they had been preparing and restructuring and making everything very transparent. They were very proud of their work. They’d had some pressure last week because fake internet registration sites directed at new voters had taken some people in, who thought they were registered but were not.
The surprise to me was that she said she believed they had logged 1500 new registrations before today, and possibly would get close to 500 more today. (They had run out of forms and had been xeroxing them.) 2000 more votes (not uniform of course, but mostly young people, so hopefully partially liberal) could make a big difference in how the 2nd district pans out.
Hopes are for more Dems to enter the Maine State Legislature to better oppose LePage. And for the US House, hoping for Emily Cain to beat nightmare Polllaquin (who did a million dishonest ads and calls this week, and has a good lead right now but with only 1 precinct counted).
But at the moment, only 1 precinct reporting out of 603, so everything looking close and can’y be predicted.. Currently in the total vote Clinton 49- T 44. (As far as I can understand, a vote in Maine is counted twice: once for the statewide count (which awards 2 EV according to the total) and the counted again as part of the individual district count.

What senate races have been called? Besides Tammy Duckworth and Marco Rubio?
