Investigations take a long time because the facts can be hard to find. But what if the perps make no serious effort to hide the bad facts?

Everyone drawn in to Trump orbit is being destroyed. If he’s gone before he destroys us all, he’ll at least have destroyed many GOP careers

The title is accurate. You can actually see up to the second where political gravity pulls McConnell’s smug smirk off of his face.

Whitehouse (one of my senators) is a good guy, very sharp, but not at all a publicity hound or a camera hog.
His office called this week and asked mrs efg for permission to quote from an email she sent.
I guess they really do read them, sooner or later.
When everybody assumed HRC was going to win, I think he was under consideration for AG (he was AG of RI before being elected to the senate).

@AnotherBruce:
It looked like a sudden stab of nausea to me. At least, I hope so.
marcion
If you haven’t done anything wrong, you don’t have anything to hide! At least. that’s the standard us mere citizens have to live under. Can it apply to his Orange Majesty?
efgoldman
@marcion:
A standard RWNJ / police trope!
He should have nothing to be afraid of.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@marcion:
That’s what Republicans keep telling us.
ETA: See efg got there first. To the bounce house efg!

Or a Talosian was just out of camera range. “Wrong thinking will be punished. Right thinking will be as quickly rewarded.”
? ?? Goku ? ?
@efgoldman: It may be a bad trope to apply to mere citizens, but elected officials with the power to affect millions of lives should be held to that standard.
amk
Hopefully twitler’s ‘battery life’ will run out soon.

It’s nice to see McConnell squirm like the worm he is
mai naem mobile
Jeezus, Mitch has been a politician for a long fucking time. Even if he was surprised,shouldn’t he be trained enough to say – ‘Oh,really, I wasn’t aware of that. My office will release a comment after I found out more.’
? ?? Goku ? ?
@mai naem mobile: That’s for the little people, apparently. Mitchy boy is too good for that.
Don’t you understand? He’s a Real American (aka Republican) and therefore doesn’t have to answer such silly questions
Viva BrisVegas
Innocent by reason of mental incapacity worked for Reagan.
That and a slew of presidential pardons should see most of the White House co-conspirators through.
It been said before, but the only post-WW2 Republican president who didn’t deserve to be impeached was Eisenhower.
That’s not a good average.
Yarrow
@AnotherBruce: Yep. He’s scared. Just like he was in December. Good.
NotMax
@Viva BrisVegas
Would add in Ford.
The pardon (and process Ford engaged in leading to it) was egregious but not an impeachable offense.
Mnemosyne
@Viva BrisVegas:
I am not a lawyer, but I swear one of our resident lawyers once said that someone who had been pardoned could be compelled to testify in front of Congress on pain of being held in contempt (i.e. arrested by federal marshals) because they could no longer claim 5th amendment protection against self-incrimination. They couldn’t be sent to jail for any of the crimes they had been pardoned for, but they could be made to testify about them. But, again, IANAL, so I may have misunderstood.

Oddly enough, dyed in the wool RWNJs would disagree on Dwight.

Jim, Foolish Literalist
one of the people I’ve gotten familiar with through my twitter wandering is Mollie Hemingway, who I think was made jealous by all this talk of Jim Hoft, or anyone else, being the stupidest person on the internet. This is her reaction to the Time mag cover
one of the things I learned through Mollie H. was that there exists a Xian version of The Onion. Sample headlines:
Christian Florist Sued For Not Weeping Tears Of Joy At Mere Thought Of Gay Wedding
UC Berkeley Begins Conversion Of Campus Into Sprawling Echo Chamber
Pastor Accidentally Spills Water, Baptizes Baby During Dedication Ceremony

So after Erdrogan met with Trump, he sends out his goons to beat up protesters and wants us to pull our attaché coordinating the ISIS coalition. I thought these authoritarians were all supposed to see eye to eye! So much winning!

@NotMax: Didn’t the real hard core ‘wingers hate him, even in real time, for Earl Warren?

Irony?
Hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is the word you’re looking for.
Clinton did nothing wrong; she did not share classified information over email, nor was that email ever hacked or made public until it was FOIA’d.
Trump criticized Clinton for maybes and hypotheticals, while mistreating classified information himself before he was President and giving it away after.
It’s hypocrisy; he is a hypocrite.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist
They wanted to impeach Warren, fer sure.
Supposedly to this day one can still sometimes pass a very faded “Impeach Earl warren” sign painted large on the side of a barn down below the Mason-Dixon line.
Ah, for the days when the Birchers were objects of derision and not the touchstone of ‘conservatism’ they have become.
Ian
@NotMax:
It all goes down on how one defines ‘impeachable’ or ‘deserving of impeachment’. I am not aware of any serious crimes committed by Truman, but a considerable part of the world would consider Hiroshima and Nagasaki war crimes. I am also not aware of any crimes worthy of impeachment committed by Carter, but my grandfather to his dying day claimed that Carter should be tried for treason for returning the Panama canal.
Additionally, I would argue sending troops into a foreign country to overthrow it’s leadership without congressional approval is Impeachable, and Eisenhower did that several times.
Edit- I meant to add Ford as well for his role in US military involvement in Southwestern Africa.
MattF
Yes, compare and contrast. The R hope that it would eventually ‘get better’ is not working out according to plan.
MattF
@NotMax: Birchers made a specific claim– that Eisenhower was “a dedicated, conscious agent of the Communist conspiracy”. No joke.

@Ian:
Viva BrisVegas specified Republican presidents, so you can omit Truman and Carter.
Splitting Image
@NotMax:
Ford put John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court. I can never quite make up my mind whether or not that lets him off the hook for pardoning Nixon, but I think it puts impeachment off the table for him.
Amir Khalid
@marcion:
I remember Pius Thicknesse, Voldemort’s puppet Minister of Magic, expressing this very sentiment when he kicks off what becomes the great purge of Muggle-borns early on in Deathly Hallows.

@Splitting Image
Can clearly recall much outrage and rending of garments at the time over the choice of Stevens.
Too conservative, too far to the right fringe, so far off the normative political spectrum as to approach unprecedented, a spit in the face of the statue of Justice.

I’m really pleased with how Sheldon Whitehouse is representing Rhode Island and serving us as his constituents. Since January he’s been attending my church on a semi-regular basis, and when he does he always comes early and lets us choir members and other early arrivals bend his ear or share his insider’s view on what’s happening on the Hill.
Ask yourself how many of the Republican senators could provide the kind of extemporaneous commentary while walking down the hall that Sheldon did in that clip–I especially loved the final zinger!
