Interesting, and thanks for the pointer, but until I win the lottery, or until there’s an actual judgement against her, I’ll have to direct my limited funds elsewhere. Best of luck to her though!!
IANAL, but the NDA seems incredibly weak and laughable. I expect her to win easily if it actually goes to a judgment, but I actually expect Donnie and Mikey to settle with her so that there is no actual court verdict. (Losing in court would embolden all the other people in Donnie’s life with similar arrangements.)
Just my $0.02.
Cheers,

@Another Scott: What if Stormy actually *does not* want any amount of money?

I’m picturing the Barron-age Donny Trump having classmates and playmates (do any exist?) fill out mimeographed NDAs before he’d interact with them. You could probably wallpaper the Pentagon exterior with all the Trump NDAs in circulation. They could perhaps be yet another house of cards–find one non-binding and perhaps they all are. Best reality show evah.
Another Scott
@Corner Stone: Then I guess she won’t get any??
My reading of the fundraiser description is that she wants money for lawyer fees, security costs, potential judgment costs, etc. It’s not for her personally, and any excess will not go to her under any circumstances.
She says she wants the freedom to talk about what happened without an $1M/event sword hanging over her head. Seems reasonable to me. Presumably everyone else that Donnie and Mikey have NDAed want the same freedom, and maybe the ability to write a book or something.
I’m not sure what you’re asking.
Cheers,
Scott.

@JPL: Scott’s directing his limited funds elsewhere than Stormy’s appeal, and I am directing my limited sympathy elsewhere than the Bush family.
Barbara Bush is 92 and had a long, full life; I’ll leave it as an exercise for the reader as to what it was full of.

@Another Scott: This is what I am asking about:
Not her attorney’s fees and expenses. What if she honestly does not want to settle for a cash amount, take the money and go away? What then, one wonders.
Mandalay
@Another Scott: I agree. Isn’t this effectively an appeal for the public to pay Stormy’s bill from Michael Avenatti? Also, (unlike gofundme) I don’t like that there is no target amount to be raised. She’s already received $312k! How much more does she need?
Of course anyone can donate however they want, but I view helping Beto O’Rourke unseat Ted Cruz as a much better investment:

@Another Scott: In ordinary and earlier times, I’d agree with you that Donny would settle with a nice sum. But he’s deteriorating and wont take good advice like that. Plus the dam is now broken. And his pride is now at stake. He won’t let himself be humiliated by giving in even if it might be the better option. Also, things are out of his hands. With all of the investigations, someone else may turn up and try again. What he’s paying for is now worthless.

@Ohio Mom: one of my favorite Hollywood stories is that when Vivian Vance (Ethel Mertz) heard William Crawley (sp? Fred) had died, she was in a restaurant and she stood up and announced “Champagne for everyone!” I have a list of people I’d be tempted to do that for. Bar doesn’t quite make it, but she pulled some nasty shit in her life, and I hope she knows that.
My favorite passage from Dickens is in Nicholas Nickleby :

@Corner Stone: Calling her grandchildren the “little brown ones” tells me everything I need to know about her.
Corner Stone
@Another Scott:
It seems I may not be very clear this beautiful sunny day. My thoughts were more on what may happen if they can’t get her to settle, for money, an apology or any other desirable promise, and if the case actually makes it to court. If Stormy can force this debacle to an open court, it seems possible a big nasty hole is going to be blown in the side of USS Trump. Not only potentially personally embarrassing but maybe legally as well. At that point I wonder what happens.
The question or observation is really more of a “what if she won’t shut up and go away AND this makes it to open court?”.

@CarolDuhart2:
From what I can tell, even Stormy Daniels’ ability to publicly say how pathetically bad he is in bed (Impotence? Tiny putz? Just gross naked?) has just disappeared from his consciousness thanks to whatever was taken from Cohen. Trump really does seem to be losing his shit harder than this than over anything previously. I didn’t think that was possible.
Another Scott
@CarolDuhart2: Certainly possible, but remember that he settled the lawsuits against Trump University.
I suspect he’ll tell his lawyers to make the problem go away and pretend that it never happened. His broken brain has probably already convinced himself that he’s completely blameless anyway. If he has to pay some sort of judgment, he’ll do everything possible to have the RNC, or some built-for-the-purpose legal defense fund, or something, actually make the payment. Donnie never pays.
We’ll see.

I don’t think she will. Daniels and her lawyer have very loudly and repeatedly insisted that this case is not about money; it’s all about Stormy being allowed to tell her story.
So if they now take a payoff, say nothing and disappear they will be in for a very rough ride in the court of public opinion, and doubly so since they are asking for donations to meet the costs of pursuing their case.
Trump would emerge looking cleaner than them.

I think it would be awesome if they asked Bill Clinton to do it. @Cermet: It’s the changes that are so striking to me.
We lived in an old house in Dayton during the winter of 1978. It was cold and stayed cold with mountains of snow. 1/4″ of frost on the inside of the windows – that kind of cold. My HS friend drove to Chicago to visit Northwestern in 1979 and talked about the drifts in the city being above the top of his VW bus.
When I first came to DC (mumble) years ago, the river would often freeze over for days in the winter.
It seems like cold like that is rarer these days. But the swings from week to week are, or seem to be, more extreme – e.g. waves of cold when the jet stream swings low, but then abnormal warmth when it swings back.
It’s nuts and it’s an annoyance for us, but it could be a disaster for the plants, and thus the animals, that we all depend on.
We’ve had plenty of warnings for a very long time, but we’ve been at the mercy of a political party that has sold its soul to those who have found ways to extract monopoly rents from all of us (the electric utilities, the oil and gas companies, the transportation industries, etc.). It’s long past time that we started taking this seriously (and do things similar to what we did in WWII). We know how to address the problem – we need to act.
Grr…

Vox:
He will have fewer allies in Congress, and the Democrats will have more power to fight him.
The economy seems (nearly) certain to weaken. Businesses aren’t spending their tax windfalls on new equipment or cutting prices, they’re giving them to shareholders. Interest rates are rising, which will put pressure on housing. Oil prices are rising, and many countries that are large oil exporters (Venezuela, etc.) are having major problems. Wages at the bottom are finally starting to rise, but so are local taxes, health insurance costs, etc., etc. And there’s the continuing risks of Donnie starting a trade war or other international conflict that will throw millions more out of work.
And Trumps legal problems will only continue to increase.
There are few if any reasons to be confident about Trump winning re-election.
Doing our best to win as many seats as possible in November 2018 will make his re-election even less likely.

Two credible polls released today. ABC/WaPo — Trump job approval 40 percent, up 4 from their January poll. NBC/Wall St.Journal — Trump job approval 39 percent, down 4 points from January. His poll numbers are not rising, they remain stable within a very narrow range from the high 30s to low 40s with changes likely random (7 point different in approval among whites in the above polls, fer instance). Trump’s polls have been lowest when he or the GOP in Congress have been trying to do things folks didn’t like, Muslim travel ban, ACA repeal try and before the tax bill (although not after.) Firing Mueller would likely have a similar effect, but the guy seems to have established both a ceiling and a floor.

@Mnemosyne: I watched the Gallup Daily Tracking poll numbers for Donnie off-and-on last year (they went to weekly this year). Approval was almost always 40%+/- 3-4%.
Daily news didn’t seem to affect the results in a sustained way. It told me that people made up their minds about him early on and nothing has changed.
The big picture is, he’s still has record-breaking unpopularity. Newsweek (from December):
(NORC runs the General Social Survey – a set of detailed questions that they’ve been asking Americans for decades. It’s a very well run poll (dunno about the details of this NORC-AP poll) and is kinda unique in that once they decided their list of people to question for the year, they moved heaven and earth to get answers from those people. So it’s not swayed by people who don’t answer the phone or whatever.)
FWIW.
Cheers,
Scott.

@Mnemosyne: Was reading about him this afternoon, and William Frawley was apparently a devoted grandfather type to the My Three Sons young actors; very kind and attentive and affectionate to them, despite his gruff performance and personality.

He’d been on borrowed time; he was released from My Three Sons because he could not pass a physical for insurance; even so they kept him on for 13 episodes. From one website: even though the on-set physician had a rep for passing anything that breathed, he said Frawley should have been dead “last year.”
Also learned that the horrible Inside Daisy Clover was directed by … Robert Mulligan, who had directed To Kill a Mockingbird just a few years previously. Had a lot of quite good films.

Desi liked Frawley for the Mertz role, met him over cocktails, and it was in the contract that he’d be fired if alcohol ever interfered with filming. It did not. There is a lot to be said for people having faith, and showing gratitude.

WRT Barbara Bush: I wish her well as she leaves this mortal coil. She’s 92. I wonder how much longer GHWB will survive. Mention that only because he’s frail too, and losing a partner of 73 years has to be like losing a limb or two plus. They’ve both outlived a usual lifespan, by a decade or more.
Mostly, I love to hear Jimmy Carter out and about and being interviewed (2 parter on the Snooze Hour recently). I wish him continued health, as vigorous as he can be, and lots more work and success. He is still interviewed on serious matters, unlike the senior Bushes, or even their son. Still writing books, too. Married to the wonderful Rosalyn. A disciplined man.

@zhena gogolia:
I’m still a little boggled that ALW’s most recent project was the Broadway musical of School of Rock. It doesn’t seem like his kind of thing, but I guess he must have seen the movie and liked it?
Also, we saw an “in concert” production of A Chorus Line a couple of years ago. They presented it as a period piece because, well, it is one now. As I was watching it, the characters kept lamenting the approaching death of the big Broadway musical and I realized that the characters had no way of knowing that ALW was waiting in the wings for his big moment …
ETA: Also, ALW is a buddy of You-Know-Who. I think there’s a recent video with LMM interviewing ALW.

What I’ve heard about The Greatest Showman is that if you can get past the completely bogus whitewashing of P.T. Barnum and accept him as a fictional character, it’s a really fun and inspiring movie. The song of theirs that was nominated for an Oscar brought the house down at the show with a great performance.
(But “Remember Me” from Coco won because it’s actually a very tricky piece of songwriting in that the real meaning of the song doesn’t get revealed until late in the film.)

They both brought something to Desilu. Ball later bought her husband out and returned the company to profitability before selling it.

This is what I hear about The Greatest Showman. Also, in the UK, there have been “sing along” performances where the lyrics are projected on the screen for the audience.

I know that Lucie was an actor and singer, but didn’t get very far. No idea what Desi Jr. did. I think Lucie may now be a Professional Daughter — it’s not an uncommon thing for the children of famous actors to do out here, especially if there’s an estate and merchandising that needs to be managed. If you ever get to go to an appearance by Sara Karloff, Boris Karloff’s daughter, she is a hoot.
The one other set of news articles that came up was a lawsuit that Lucie filed against Gary Morton’s widow when she tried to sell some of her mother’s memoribilia at auction. It sounded like she got back some of the stuff that was most important to her, like the awards, but not everything.

@Elizabelle:
You should definitely go — the movie is really funny. Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson play father and son and apparently improv’d most of their dialogue.
There is now an art museum out here named for Vincent Price — he donated his art collection to (I think) East Los Angeles College and they eventually got the funding to turn it into a full-fledged museum. He was really big on art education and wanted to make sure that students in the less privileged parts of LA were exposed to art, so he worked with that school for years with loans from his personal collection and eventually the full donation after he died.
Speaking of famous art collectors, Cheech Marin is a very well-respected collector of Chicano and Latino art and has done exhibitions with several museums across the US. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up endowing a museum (or at least his own wing of an existing museum) rather than letting his collection be broken up once he’s gone.
