I remember being moved to pity by the woebegone and unfun-looking toys of my parents’ and grandparents’ age. Now, when I encounter the horrid plastic crap of my own childhood I think, “My God! I wouldn’t give this to a raccoon.”

But see? Even the animals of the antique malls of Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin are appalled at the choices we are making. There’s only one way to fix this mess. It is obvious to even those whose heads are stuffed with ticking. It’s the fund that’s split between all eventual Democratic nominees (we have a lot of them now!) in House districts currently held by Republicans.

    Just dropping by to note that there were NO Democrats on any of the Sunday shows this morning. Not that, you know, Democrats have anything important to add to the national conversation.

    Everyone figure out your plan for voting in November now & make it special—go with 5 or 10 or more friends. I really think we all need to take responsibility for getting as many folks to the polls as possible.

    @pamelabrown53: Hmm, it happens pretty regularly around these parts. Here’s a story to cheer you up.

    Yesterday a young couple came up to me while I fished and said they didn’t know anything about it and would I mind talking to them. I spent about 30 minutes going over the basics and lent them my sand flea rake so they could catch bait. This morning about 6am the young man walked up the beach with a 25 inch red! I was really excited for him to catch such a nice fish on his first try. The capper was that he insisted I take the fish because I helped them and they really didn’t want to keep it. I tried repeatedly to talk him out of it to the point that I said I’d even clean it for them. No dice. It’s all cleaned and red for the grill!!!

    @pamelabrown53: I like helping people who have an interest in fishing. Last year a kid hung around me for almost a week. We’d shoot the shit, he tease me that when I got a hit was going to give the rod to him. About half way through his parents came down to the beach and I introduce myself and said I wanted them to know who he’d been hanging with. They were really nice and dad said “he lost his grandpa 6 months ago and you really remind him of the gramps.” I got a little dizzy on that one.
