I don't know how they did it, but the Grucci family spelled out #ImpeachTrump in fireworks over Montauk. The crowd went nuts! Boats sounded their horns. On a distant astral plane, John Adams cheered. Wow! A true #IndependenceDay tribute to freedom, free of fascism. #Resist ????

It could've been the Montauk summer ale. But I could've sworn!

Alex Jones promised me a civil war today. Last time I trust that guy.

I’m beginning to think Civil War II might be the Y2K of armed insurrections.

Dearest Mother,
I have, as you bid me, gone to the war to become a man. The fortunes of that conflict have brought me in contact with the female of the species, as I so fondly hoped. The encounter was not the transport of masculine joy you led me to expect. #secondcivilwarletters pic.twitter.com/8JoAWo1ykj— WeaponizedHat (@Popehat) July 3, 2018
There seem to have been multiple competing hashtags. Since I try to stay out of the fever swamps, Rick Wilson and his fellow NeverTrumpers have the nastier takes I’ve seen…

Dear Ma-
We were holding strong after the last salvo from @TeenVogue but then the dictionary came after us and our ranks have broken and we ran, as we are, to a man, afraid of the written word and pointy headed intellectuals.
Yours always,

The deployment of the Trumpjugend forces in their technicals came as a shock. So young, yet so fierce and fit.
As we closed in on Washington these battles left my men feeling the cost of this war to our souls would be higher than any man could count.#secondcivilwarletters pic.twitter.com/SjxsOKLPPm

I am so fucking sick of the whole “Nazis were socialists because it’s in their name, libtards!” I guess these people think that North Korea is really a democracy — after all, its official name is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, so it MUST be a democracy. After all, it says so right in the name!
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mnemosyne: …or there’s the German Democratic Republic(DDR, aka East Germany).

How about Democrats are the real rascists because… Robert Byrd and something else. See? Hey put that US history book down. Fake history!

Not to mention the green in Greenland or the great in Great Britain.

9 p.m. and only a couple of dozen desultory and widely spaced booms way. way off in the distance. No firecracker sounds, none of those especially noisy and noisome 100,000 cracker coils. Never heard it so quiet on July 4, including years when it was raining. Local fire department must be in seventh heaven.

@NotMax: Great Britain is the larger of the two British Isles.

@NotMax: They’re still going off here, but in the distance. I’m keeping the door closed to muffle the sound, though I need to open it soon since it’s going to be hot later today.

Intermittently watching a German science fiction movie on Amazon Prime, Cargo Space Is Cold, which should be better than it is but will give them credit for a coherent, well structured story (not rife with technobabble, thankfully) and decent special effects.

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Wikipedia says there are quite a few more than two British Isles; and, interestingly, that not everyone living on them agrees to that name:
BC in Illinois
One skirmish.
The 4th of July parade in Webster Groves (very suburban St Louis county) featured both the local “Moms Demand Action for common sense gun laws” group . . . and the NRA.
The Moms group was overwhelmed by the turnout. 200-300 people showed up. The parade organizers said that they couldn’t have that many — maybe 50-100 max — so they asked the group if some of them would go to other parts of the parade. Some went to march with the Clair McCaskill group. Some came to march with the Mark Osmack for Congress group, others to Wesley Bell, Cori Bush, other local candidates.
Withe the result . . . the Moms group was still impressive, with at least 100-150 marchers — greeted with cheers and standing ovations along the line. (No not everyone, certainly, but there was enough positive enthusiasm that all the marchers felt great. Facebook and Twitter pictures all day. All in all, a 2 1/2 mile walk in a heat advisory, and a great day.
Oh . . . and the NRA was there. Discussion on the news in the days before the parade was about whether they would be open-carrying during the parade (totally legal in Missouri; no background checks, no nothing). They said they wouldn’t. Concealed carry? There’s no way to know. (Totally legal in Missouri; no permits, no checks, no nothing.) They showed up with a huge (military surplus?) camo-painted truck. 20 marchers –mostly riding on the truck — lots of flags, Trump/Pense shirts, and a sign that said “Guns save lives–stop the hysteria.”
And the pictures are of people turning their backs as they rode by, anti-NRA signs and thumbs down.
125 days to Election Day. And the local Rep — Ann Wagner (R – safe Republican vote) — needs the votes of Webster Groves in order to win. And it is true that you can’t tell everything from one parade. But for today, the skirmish went to the good guys.

The southern Less Britons have had a theme park of sorts running there since the 1920s. It had the usual issues with lack of opportunities for women and minorities but they’ve brought in new management and things are improving.

Somehow one can’t help the impression that Merriam-Webster was not impressed by Trump’s claim of having the best words and decided to start a counter offensive by butting in on the one true Trumpian area of expertise: the comb over.
Sneaky bastards.

@Mnemosyne: I’ve gotten some of that, too – last year some jackass called me “ignorantly misinformed” for not “knowing” that. I replied by referencing Niemoller and linking to Amazon’s page for Shirer’s Rise and Fall, and he got shirty about my being “triggered”. I’m sorry, but my mom and dad were both around for the whole of that war, and Mom was in one of the countries the Nazis invaded, so I have zero patience for people trying to troll on that topic, especially now that the threat is becoming more obvious.
As an aside to the gang: would it be considered offensive these days to refer to the Confederate battle flag as the Hillbilly Hakenkreuz?

@Bruce K:
And that asshole was “well misinformed”?
It’s as if the entire lot o’ them are Dunning-Kruger adherents.

Well, you capitalized it, so it’s probably NOT uncivil of you. Lower case, on the other hand, would not give those racist, fascist assholes all the respect they deserve.

This thing about Twitler wanting to invade Venezuela, along with recognizing Putin’s invasion of Crimea, makes me really nervous. He wants to BE Putin. That’s what strong leaders do, invade other sovereign nations!

I always thought Great Britain (Greater Britain) referred to the multiple countries (territories) that make it up, in the same way we refer to ‘the greater (city name)’ area.

“During the Brexit campaign…”
That’s a real puzzler for me. We’ve visited Europe twice, and both times remarked on how crossing national borders was like crossing state lines in the US. If you weren’t watching you might miss it. As a child I was disappointed that going into Ohio or Virginia was so not interesting. Same with New Years and birthdays, nothing different on the other side.
And now the English are working against everything that’s kept a continent that saw bloody constant warfare for centuries at peace now for 73 years, longer than any period of peace on the European continent in written history. And Trump is working against the other holder of the peace, NATO.
Putin owns the brexit people and he owns Traitor-Trump, and he obviously owns a lot of the leaders of the Republican treason party.

@Bruce K: Great idea! It’s not very “haken” visually speaking, but the verb form haken can take the meaning to be stuck. Plus it makes all kinds of sense, and it sounds great!
