Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

We still have time to mess this up!

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Fight them, without becoming them!

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

We will not go back.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Let there be snark.

In after Baud. Damn.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Live-Tweeting The Weather Log For The Trinity Test (1945)

The opera “Dr. Atomic” premieres at the Santa Fe Opera on Saturday, July 14. This will be its first performance so close to Los Alamos.

To commemorate the events of the opera, Nuclear Diner will live-tweet the weather reports for the Trinity test of the first nuclear device to be exploded. The weather reports were significant, because this time of year is monsoon season, and thunderstorms surrounded the test site.

The Twitter account is @NuclearDiner. The live-tweet starts at 12:30 am Mountain Daylight Time July 16. You don’t need to be registered on Twitter to see the tweets, and you can read them later.

The photo is from the Santa Fe Opera’s tweet stream, which contains a great many from their dress rehearsal.

From Dr. Heisenberg’s review of the play:

“In the end, do I recommend you go see it? That remains uncertain.”

BIG moment: “At the sight of this, your Shape stupendous, Shape stupendous, full of mouth and eyes, terrible with fangs, thighs and bellies, all the words are fear struck even just as I am.” #sfoAtomic #santafeopera #sfoInstameet pic.twitter.com/6LxrPsA8dZ

    My former boss just died.

Her father wrote “I once asked her how she remained so positive when dealing with terminal cancer. She answered “Daddy I realized that I had two choices. I can be miserable or I can be happy. I choose to be happy.” At this difficult time let’s all follow her example.”

@raven: In the pre-dawn hours earlier this week that same thought came to me, that being happy was a choice. We choose how we see the world, and how we order our priorities.

I choose to think that she let loose that thought that I caught as it flew by. Peace to you and all who loved her.

And great advice from your boss. Will you still go to Houston?

    July 13, 2018 at 2:32 pm

@Elizabelle: Yea, she left her position with us about 18 months ago. It’s been challenging for her replacement because she was so highly thought of but he has handled it well. I’m somewhat relieved because I know she didn’t want to live the way it had been going for the last couple of months. She and I were colleagues for over 10 years and then she became my boss. I was her go-to-guy for venting and she vented a lot! I always had gems like “it all pays the same” and “is that really the hill you want to die on’!

The quotes and photos posted at the SFeO are something; thanks. A friend here is taking the train across the country to see the opera.

The weather tweets, great idea, will be interesting to read.

@raven: Glad to hear things have worked out for the new guy; that can be a tough situation. In my wife’s first job in her new career, she took over for a beloved predecessor who had been killed in a car accident, and they basically all treated her like crap the whole time she was there because she wasn’t that woman.

My first response is “How can you not be miserable with cancer?” I couldn’t. My second response is based upon my sister. “It’s not the cancer, it’s not the dying. It’s that the unknown is gone.”

@Teddys Person: Last interview with Trump was The Sun, where he called it “Fake News” right up until they released the recorded audio. I wonder how long it will take Trump to denounce his Piers Morgan interview after it gets critical comments? How dare they quote him accurately?

@raven: Oh, raven, sorry to hear it. I know you’ve mentioned her before and how high an opinion of her you had.

I’ll take that “choose to be happy” thought under advisement. It comes at a very apropos moment.

@Miss Bianca: The SF Opera season ends the middle of August or so. Check their website. When I bought tickets a couple of months ago, the Dr. Atomic performances were getting sold out pretty quickly. But sometimes they add a performance for a very popular opera.

If things haven’t changed, the stage at Santa Fe Opera has no rear wall, and one just looks through into pitch black dotted by some distant lights, and I think those are the lights of Los Alamos. If so, the ironic effect also plays out in a production of Madama Butterfly, which is set in Nagasaki.

@Gary K: The rear wall can be closed or open, and those are the lights of Los Alamos.
