Oh, she’s beautiful! Thanks for the break from the crazy, John. I’ve tried to stay away today and be domestic and serene. Meaning I’ve had to run away from BJ every time I stopped in to see what was what. Now, if you didn’t see my post on it earlier, you should envy my family picnic tomorrow. It’s a culinary tribute to my mother through her best summer dishes.

I have dog envy… I took my beloved to the beach and like the wheaten that he is, he ran around in circles like a crazy dog, digging in the sand and played in the waves only as far out as his feet would touch.
The golden retriever down the beach was playing fetch with his human and I swear, swam halfway to the Golden Gate bridge for a tennis ball. It was remarkable.
Max will fetch a stick about exactly two times before he gets bored.

I am ignoring the wingnuts as best I can this nice three day weekend. I have spent the first two days cleaning out my kitchen cupboards, throwing away stuff (yee gods I had cans of Asda creamed rice dated 2001!) Laid down nice shelf lining stuff and lined up all my canned goods like little soldiers on parade. I opened the cupboard which contains my condiments to salt some pasta and I came upon this

Ugh! I need to get off of Facebook for a while. I have been arguing with a full blown, Glenn Beck watching wingnut I went to high school with. Every time I respond to his complaint/hate filled rant about the POTUS talking to the children, he completely changes his argument. Mr. South thinks I should just tell him he is an idiot, but I just can’t do it. I don’t know why I haven’t outgrown this need for people to like me. Why do I care, he is an a-hole!! I need wine.

@Incertus: I agree on that Dan Pink video. It reminded me of when Jon Stewart was on a populist tear in favor of taxing the rich for healthcare, and he was interrupted to be fake-informed that he was actually in the top 1% income bracket in this country. His sarcastic response was brilliant: “Now where will I get my incentive to succeed?” (paraphrase). It was a pitch-perfect representation of how libertarianism utterly fails at understanding/explaining human behaviors and motivations. And, consequently, utterly fails as a governing philosophy.

One of the magic songs I heard very late at night on the CBC years and years ago …
Baby don’t you drive around with Dr. Bernice.
She’s not a lady doctor at all.
She’s got hands like a man.
With hair on the back.
She’ll crush you with her embrace.
Though the wind may whisper and moan sometimes
We all need a kind place to live.
Though the wind may whisper and howl at your door
We all need the comfort of friends.
Baby don’t you drive around with Dr. Bernice.
That ain’t a real Cadillac.
It’s a delta 88 spray painted black
with fake leather seats from Juarez
Though the wind may whisper and moan sometimes
On a hot desert night it is still.
Though the world may whisper and howl at your door
You’re not obliged to let them all in.
Baby don’t you drive ride in that faux Cadillac
If you must please ride in the back.
If you sing while you ride you’ll be a siren tonight.
Spare this poor sailor’s life from the rocks.
Though the wind may whisper a melody now.
We can’t find a tune of our own.
Though the world may whisper and blow in your face
and tangle the hair on your head.
On a hot desert night we can drive down the road
And the stars will spell out your name.
On a hot desert night with the windows down wide.
The sirens will sing me their song.
And the ghosts of the sailors who died on the rocks
Feel not a twitch of regret.
Though the wind may tangle the hair on your head.
You sing like a siren to me.
On a hot desert night, the caravan stops
At the oasis next to your heart.
The soundtrack is played by some aged British queen
On BBC Radio One.
Though the wind my whisper and epic sometime
the cast must include Karen Black.
Though the symphony strings shifts with the sand.
You sing like a siren to me.

I see these two entries in the box scores of the Mississippi-Memphis ballgame:

And there is a great piece in Salon today “Who are the Wealth Creators?” (hint, it aint the wealthy..) Money quote:
In my present position I could scarcely be justified were I to omit raising a warning voice against this approach of returning despotism. It is not needed nor fitting here that a general argument should be made in favor of popular institutions, but there is one point, with its connections, not so hackneyed as most others, to which I ask a brief attention. It is the effort to place capital on an equal footing with, if not above, labor in the structure of government.–Abraham Lincoln
