Was worried that Milo’s straight pride parade would cause traffic problems here my last day in Boston but the traffic, like Milo, appears irrelevant and overstated.

You know the ‘straight pride’ luzers have themselves an image problem when they choose a parade marshal whose profession is being gay, but right-wing. Sam Bishop’s twitter feed includes shots from the whole sad performance. Per the Boston Globe:
Outdone by numbers and noise from thousands of protesters, a few hundred marchers in a controversial Straight Pride Parade were jeered and heckled Saturday afternoon during a mile-long procession from Copley Square to City Hall Plaza.
“Shame on you!” many of the protesters yelled as the parade, flanked by hundreds of police officers, passed block after block of security barricades on normally busy downtown streets, which had been closed for the event.
After the rally ended at 4 p.m., some of the protesters turned their anger toward the mayor and police, whom they assailed for allowing the parade and then protecting the marchers…
Boston police reported 36 arrests, but spokesman Sergeant John Boyle gave no details. Four police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
Mayor Martin J. Walsh, who was attending a Jump Into Peace event in Roxbury, said the march “is not any representation of who we are as a city.”
About 600 protesters outnumbered an estimated 200 marchers after the parade reached City Hall Plaza, where police kept protesters behind barricades about 200 feet from a concert stage where the Straight Pride rally was held…
Parade organizer Mark Sahady is part of Resist Marxism, a group founded by an alt-right leader that has a history of violence. That group had helped organize a “free speech” rally in Boston in 2017 that critics said attracted white nationalists.
The grand marshal was Milo Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart editor who has been banned from Facebook and Twitter for hate speech, was among several speakers at the rally…
So Sahady and his little buddies succeeded in wasting a ton of the city’s money protecting them from the abuse they were demanding, and ramping up the tension another notch between the cops and the ‘counter-culture’. Which was what they were hoping for, after all, so at least they have *that* consolation.

These people are pitiable.
Sad trombone indeed.
NotMax
Somehow would have thought the endpoint of the march to be a Chick-fil-A.
ThresherK
@SiubhanDuinne: Let’s go full My Little Pony on this.
I had heard that this was supposed to be relabeled a cosplay parade, because if there’s something that cosplayers don’t care for are LGBTQ folk.
ThresherK
@ThresherK: Ugh. Here’s the link for the Pinkie Pie sad trombone.

By the way, I’m slightly disappointed that the “pillow of Youtuber Sargon of Akkad” is not a full body pillow as any otaku would have of his favorite waifu. The energy is the same.

For balance, some happier trombones.
??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??
Isn’t r/frenworld that subreddit where grown men would talk to each other in baby talk to be cover up being overtly racist with a positive “friendly” veneer? Jesus Christ, what losers

So how many women were at this “straight” pride parade? Half of them, right?

The good news is that these sad bastards won’t be making any contributions to the collective gene pool any time soon. The loser who brought his wittle couch pillow made the right decision to leave his Milo Y. Real Doll back at the single-wide. Just a lot of extra weight to carry, and people might wonder.

Crowd-psychology-wise the Boston police were acting like they wanted a riot. They truly were out in excessive force.
What I mean by that is that they were mostly faceless. The only ones who looked like they were wearing their normal uniforms were the crowd control guys on their bicycles, the rest were dressed like a bunch of storm troopers, already in their full riot gear (with yellow vests).
All those police didn’t seem like they were there to keep anyone safe, but more like they were to be intimidating to menacing. And I really didn’t like how they handled the crowd control behind city hall across from Haymarket. They got really sloppy keeping the two sides separate. I left after a double file of motorcycle cops running their lights & sirens decided to drive down the street they’d closed to traffic but allowed to fill up with counter-protesters.
(Based on what I’ve read, shortly after that is when the kettling & pepper spraying & most of the arresting happened).

@Tenar Arha: What I’m seeing on twitter (but can’t verify) is that, due to The Grand Student Migration this weekend, Boston-area cops were mostly either fully booked elsewhere or had arranged for time off. So the cops at the parade included a lot of “outsiders” from smaller towns outside 495, working for the overtime pay — cops who didn’t have the Boston troops’ experience working with the city’s considerable activist presence, and possibly cops who (shall we say) might privately have sympathized more with the ‘straight rights’ paraders than the protestors.
I’m glad things weren’t worse, frankly. But it’s a bill and a headache Marty Walsh didn’t need; I doubt it’ll make City Hall more sympathetic to Sahady and his running buddies in the future.

I can’t think of anything gayer than a straight pride parade.

The one in Modesto a few days ago was equally pitiful — and equally wasteful of public resources.
One consolation is that these douchebros are destined to remove themselves for the gene pool. Thinning the herd for the good of the species.
opiejeanne
@ThresherK: This is news to me. The Pony fans I know are gay men. I was forced to watch one of the episodes that was especially adored by one of them because he was a guest in my house. Mr opiejeanne abandoned me by falling asleep, the traitor, and left me to be polite. God, that was boring.
Also, the cosplay people I know best are all part of the LGBTQ community, friends of my son.
wasabi gasp
The left absolutely owns the right in creativity. But the right has the market cornered in absurdity. This must change.
opiejeanne
@wasabi gasp: It’s like they’re trying to deny something, trying too hard.
opiejeanne
@Sister Golden Bear: Hi. How are you doing now? I hope you’re feeling better than the last report I saw from you. I think about you fairly often and admire your courage.
Gex
@opiejeanne: Provided you recognize that straight people can actually be homophobic too. Not just closet cases.
Not sure if straight people think only gay people are homophobic, but they sure do talk like it.
Chetan Murthy
@Gex: Oh, I suspect we all know straight folks can be homophobes[1]. It’s just that we have this sinking suspicion that the most virulent homophobes are, well, protesting too much. B/c so often it turns out (at least the males) they were deep in the closet and in denial.
[1] I was a homophobe growing up in small-town Texas. Only learned better in grad school.

@opiejeanne: @opiejeanne: Am thinking that it may be a Good Thing for this blog if there were a weekly thread “How’re We Doing – Updates and Developments”. Would be place where those – like me – who’ve talked about health issues, job searches, kids’ college applications, etc, to let the jackaltariat know the later chapters of the story.
Meself, feeling about 96% back to normal. Walked about two miles around Maplewood and Milburn yesterday afternoon.
Saw my cardiologist, beginning of August, she said ‘You don’t need as much of this drug now, so am prescribing pills of this dose,.and you’re to take one every other day.’ So the next morn I looked at date and wrote ‘ODD’ on pillbottle to remind me to swallow one on each odd-numbered day, forgetting that the 31st is followed inexorably by the 1st….
“Thirty days hath September,
Month of paler cooler suns.
And if it didn’t, who’d remember
The totals for the other ones ?
Thirty days hath September.
Thirty shining golden beads,
Thirty days hath September.
Actually, that’s all it needs.”

So, ahem, lemme see whether I can get this straight (pun intended): To add a bit of flash to their ‘Straight Pride Parade’ the organizers decided to have a gay dude as the grand marshal. Maybe there’s a symptom of your issues right there, guys.

@JAFD: an updates thread is a good idea JAFD! I know people randomly ask in other threads. And happy to hear you’re doing so much better. I need to start a walking program, now that the weather is cooler so I can actually manage to walk without risking heat stroke. If course, it’s pouring rain outside right now.

So 200 idiots met 600 other idiots on the street. Straight Pride never deserved anything more than ridicule on twitter and being completely ignored on the streets. Point and laugh folks, point and laugh.

@opiejeanne: Doing well. Pain has decreased dramatically — to the point where I didn’t remember to take the Tylenol as scheduled, although I did get a bit ouchy a few hours later, which prompted to remember to take it.
Moved over the new, nicer hotel, and glad I did. Definitely more comfortable and there’s a couple other revision patients here, plus the other hotel is only a 4-minute walk away if I want to visit people.

My daughter went to protest. Since she’s at a school on the “parade” route. I asked how it went:
No pics she said, too busy trying not to get trampled. I’m disappointed with the amount of problems the police seemed to cause

I always thought some proportion of the Cosplay folks were gay. My gaydar isn’t very good, though, so I would have no idea if they were or weren’t…

@hervevillechaizelounge: That is shocking. Veterans deserve better.

Just wanted to drop a quick note for you juicers about the straight pride parade. The point of the parade wasn’t straight pride, it was to draw out insane reactions from leftists like ANTIFA and to a lesser degree, yourselves. The purpose was to generate headlines that make your fellow ideologues look unpalatable to the average citizen, for whom the straight pride parade was simply an eyeroll event. After that they’re going to use the actions of those morons to smear every Democrat in every state everywhere, some will stick and some won’t but they’ll all have to spend money to fight it. The fact that there were attacks and arrests means some of your ilk took the bait, bigger more noticed left wing outlets, who someone might pay attention to, talking about how shitty these people are for assembling peacefully then being attacked. They look as silly as possible because, what kind of monsters would attack these harmless dweebs?!? Taking the example of Trump, the right has been causing the left to make these little displays, more and more often. Some examples: The OK hand symbol freak out- stirred up by 4chan to leave egg on your faces, Dragging James Gunns raunchy tweets out- got known Hollywood leftists to defend pedo jokes in a climate where mainstream comedians are under fire for not being PC enough, Cause drag kid to go viral- all of America could watch the left celebrate a little boy, dressed like a little girl, dancing provocatively for grown gay men making it rain. I promise I could go on. Now before you call me a concern troll, that’s not it. I’m not telling you these things to help, or pretend to help, I find it hilarious and know you can’t stop yourselves. My point is to say: you suckers got played again and you’re going to keep getting played until 2020 when Trump crushes whatever commie loser you try to put on stage next to him. Change my mind.
FlyingToaster
From the reports I was reading there were 3 separate sets of messes.
Around Boylston Station (Boylston/Tremont), a coupla guys hopped the fence to get into it with a coupla paraders or bike cops. They were tackled and ziptied on the spot.
Up Tremont opposite Emerson College, some numbnuts decided to throw a volley of milkshakes at police ahead of the paraders. The police rushed the crowd, pepper-spraying and hitting people with bikes. The numbnuts seem to have gotten away.
After the parade, on Congress, the outta town cops (the motorcycles were tagged “city of presidents”, hence, Quincy) didn’t have their “keep the crowds separate” mojo going. So the more fed-up and belligerent who’d surrounded the city hall finish line started following the fleeing paraders.
This was poorly managed, for which blame does partially rest on the Walsh admin — you give a permit when ALL of the boxes are ticked, not just most. They had the assembly point and route pretty well secured. But they didn’t have the whole “reccessional” thang worked out (I’m seeing the end of “Buckaroo Banzai” here). And Boston does this very well with the rolling rallies for sports championships, so they damn well know better than to funnel people down the steps to Congress.
Part of the parade permit for controversial folks should be the “how are you leaving our fair city?” dox. D’oh!
Shell4747
@OzarkHillbilly:
My understanding is that rather than marchers turning on police, it was the other way around, and the beatings with bicycles, kettling & arrests happened as soon as the parade ended, and while people including paraders were still standing around doing nothing much.
I hate to say this, but I fully doubt anything told to journalists by police in these cases. Just no trust for their credibility at all.
Ian Osmond
Given that actual video evidence exists of what happened, which clearly shows people standing around minding their business, with some people yelling, and then police, with absolutely no visible trigger, suddenly charging into crowds and grabbing people apparently at random and cuffing them, while spraying pepper spray indiscriminately, I’d go with the narrative that has evidence, not the one that the police are trying to spin.
