I’ve had a stressful and crappy few days and really needed this moment:
On the plus side, I did get to hug my parents and brother’s family this weekend, so I’m going to take that as a win. Thanks vaccine!

Hugging your parents is no small thing.

I got to take my mom out for Mother’s Day, so that was fun. I got to buy her a hanging plant. I couldn’t find any that were worth having last year.

My first family get together in over a year will be next weekend. My aunt turned 90 in April of last year and we’re having cake and ice cream. My cousin said everyone’s vaccinated, should be fun!

@HumboldtBlue: Sweet!

So the Tarzan backstory is plausible?
Don’t have many Mom’s in my life, called Tool Rental Tech Support late yesterday. 45 min on hold, one tech in a Texas Call Center, for 897 stores.
Spent 35 min talking to her about a Tech issue, she was clueless about. She had to take out an “issue report” and kick it up the food chain.
PITA, but you get farther being nice and polite, and making an effort.
At the near end of the call, wished her a “Happy Mothers Day”.
She just gushed, as I was the only person all day, to say that to her.

It is my birthday today! I have no kids myself, and my mom died 13 years ago on April 30, so this little stretch is always a little bittersweet for me, and the years my birthday is ON mother’s day, even more so. This year of course so crazy in so many other ways, was so grateful to be able to have a little gathering with 6 friends at an outside restaurant– just got home from it a bit ago. Last year, a group Zoom reunion that happened to be on my birthday: would never have predicted the year to come. But progress, of a sort! Happy mother’s day to all you mamas, of human, duck, step or god child, or whatever role you fill for your family of choice!

@Soprano2:
Buckerfields here used to have a “Mothers Day Event”, where you, or kids, with expert guidance, could build a basket of your choice, from hundreds of bedding plants and dozens of pots.
Closed for the second year in a row due to Covid.

@something fabulous: Happy birthday!

I still have no timeframe when I’ll get to reunite with my daughter and grandsons. They live in Florida. I have no desire to travel there, and, as of yet, they have no way to travel here. She’s vaccine hesitant, and the boys are under 12. DeSantis has ruined any thoughts of me visiting FL for the time being, and I’m in WA.?

Happy happy day.

@Jackie:
22,800 cases of all variants , ( even Indian). since Spring Break in Floriduh,
and that’s with 1% of Covid cases in Floriduh being gene sequenced.
Disneyland anyone?
Sorry, about your situation Jackie.
Fuck DeSantis.

@Jay: Disney World is in Orlando, Florida. Disneyland is in Anaheim, California and is the original park. They are run independently of each other.
Disneyland is open to California residents only, with limited capacity and the tickets are expensive. Pretty sure masks will be required and anyone refusing to wear one will be bounced out of the park with no prospect of a refund, and possibly being arrested. Not sure if proof of vaccination is required.
Not sure what the Florida park is doing but they will probably require proof of vaccination and require masks.

@Jackie: Hi Jackie! We live just outside Seattle on the east side, in Woodinville. Welcome to WA.
I hope your daughter gets her vaccine soon.

Our two daughters and their husbands visited us for Mother’s Day, as well as my niece and her husband. They came bearing food and helped put up the new greenhouse. Everyone is vaccinated, and we had a great visit.
We all got to hug each other, without fear. It was wonderful.

Happy Birthday!
Mine is 2 months away and I will be retired before I then, when turn 72.
My mom died just over 9 yrs ago and my sister, one of my best friends, went 4 yrs before that. Dad 20 yrs ago. I try to look forward rather than backwards, the last 20 yrs have seen so many I know, gone. The world keeps spinning, it keeps moving and that’s how it should be. It’s just a wee bit hard some days to see all the joy and the wonderment of life and living. It’s there. But the last year has been a lot harder for many to see it. To see why we settle for less in politics, in life, in living. Getting up every day is amazing, I’m glad I get to keep doing it, I just wish that some days would be a bit nicer, a bit more, a bit younger, a bit more wonderful. The last year has been a darkness in all our lives, in the lives of all of the billions in the world. We have a chance to have that light come back a little brighter, I hope that we can see that, experience that, embrace that, and not have to live in a world where some have actual hate for their fellow humans, because of their color, country of origin, religion or lack of, money or lack of, gender or desire to change that, that we can actually live in a world that isn’t fighting over scraps while others have far, far more than

Mothers Day in the UK was on 27th March this year but my mother died many years ago at the ridiculously early age of 59. So, no-one to send flowers or chocolates to.
Loved the video. My u3a had a Zoom talk last week from an animal behavioural expert who specialises in primates and our cousins think and reason and feel much more than we realise or even, sometimes, want to acknowledge.

@Mel: Thanks very much! It ended up a very nice day.
