It seems like we are still getting vaccinated, and it’s been over a week since i put one of these up.
If you let us know in one of the last comments in the previous thread, you might want to post again here so we can all share your good news.

Just Chuck
Was WTF last month, but now I got both of my Fauci Ouchies, so let’s represent with the ol’ silver fox’s mug, shall we? \o/
WaterGirl
@Just Chuck: Congratulations on moving from WTF to celebration.
Benw
Yo, middle teen got Pfizer #2 last Thursday! He felt like ass on Friday (yay sick day tho) and was fine over the weekend. Can he have a Henry?
WaterGirl
@Benw: My little Henry is honored!
rikyrah
@Benw:
Now, he’s on the 14 day Antibody countdown. :)
prufrock
My fifteen year old son got his second Pfizer Friday. The only side effect he suffered from was a headache. The timeline went something like this:
9:00 AM
SON: Dad, I’ve got a headache.
ME: Do you want some Tylenol?
SON: No, it tastes terrible (he can’t swallow pills, so Tylenol means adult strength liquid).
ME: Okay, if you change your mind, let me know.
10:00 AM
SON: Dad, I’ve still got a headache.
ME: Do you want some Tylenol?
SON: [Thinking] Okay.
ME: So you suffered for an hour to avoid fifteen seconds of unpleasantness? Are you secretly a Republican?
SON: Just give me the Tylenol.
And scene.
rikyrah
Peanut got her second shot on Friday :)
Outside of a sore arm, nothing else wrong.
She is on the 14 day antibody countdown.
May I get CAMP, So Chill and a Steve, please.
WaterGirl
@prufrock: That made me laugh.
He surely deserves some stickers, which ones do you want?
TheOtherHank
My fully vaccinated older boy decided that since he and a couple friends are all vacc-ed, they should go on a road trip. SF to Colorado, then down to Texas and back to SF. They’re in Texas now. He said getting the stink-eye for being masked up while waiting to use the restroom inside a gas station from an unmasked dude open-carrying a gun was a bit unsettling.
Barbara
Passed the 14-day post second shot period last Friday and son got his second shot this morning. Everyone in my family is officially vaccinated.
mRNA for the win, I think.
West of the Rockies
19-year-old daughter in Eugene (Quack ?) got her 2nd Pfizer a couple weeks ago. Oregon is doing pretty well now after a weakish start. A duck sticker for my duck daughter, please.
Benw
@WaterGirl: yay Henry!
Benw
@rikyrah: hurray for Peanut and you! Such a relief to be counting down
WaterGirl
@TheOtherHank: Even without the stink-eye, the unmasked dude open-carrying a gun would be
abitvery unsettlingLa Nonna
Il Nonno fully vaccinated with Pfizer due to alto rischio co-morbidities, I await the second dose of AstraZeneca, due on July 7. He’d like Joe in the convertible, and I’d like that tiny black kitten. Ciao for now from Puglia, where most things will open up on 15 June.
Roger Moore
@prufrock:
No. He suffered for an hour because he hoped against hope that things would get better on their own.
WaterGirl
@rikyrah: So happy for you and Peanut!
lee
@prufrock: Just in case you haven’t heard every single ‘try this’:
This is what worked for both my kids.
Get them started swallowing mini-M&Ms. Then move to regular M&Ms. Then coat the pills in chocolate like you would with Peanut Butter for dogs.
My youngest is very very taste sensitive so we had to get her on pills early (liquids would not stay down longer enough to be effective). We got her on pills so early that many times it was a struggle to get pills in the right dose.
Eunicecycle
@TheOtherHank: when my son moved to Texas (Austin!) his co-workers were amazed that he had never shot a gun of any kind (well paintball). It’s been 11 years, and he still hasn’t.
ETA but he and his wife are vaxxed!
WaterGirl
@lee: That is super smart!
Emma from Miami
Has anyone seen the Vanity Fair article about the Trump White House’s secret list of essential workers that would need to be vaccinated and the rat race that ensued to get on the list? It’s called Shot Chasers and it’s worth a read.
As Hawk once said to Spenser, “those guys could fuck up a beach party.”
Barbara
@lee: My trick is to bury the pills in a big spoonful of yogurt. I loathe taking pills, although as an adult I can at least do it, but prefer making it easier. When I was a kid it drove my parents crazy that I could not swallow pills.
Sure Lurkalot
The last person eligible in my extended family, 14 year old great niece, got her 2nd on Friday. Just a half day feeling punk. I’m happy for her and her 16 yo bro, they were very compliant with and considerate about all the restrictions, but it has been a hard year or so for them.
It’s nice to read about people and their families getting their shots. Especially after 1A segment this morning on how to reach those white men and evangelicals who refuse. While they praise their dear leader for delivering the vaccines.
lee
@WaterGirl: 2 very smart women came up with that.
Our pediatrician the first 2 steps. The third step my wife who is a veterinarian.
Barbara
@Sure Lurkalot: It’s bizarre, isn’t it? The fact that Trump won’t admit to getting vaccinated is the ultimate proof that it’s all about owning the libs. Were he to admit that he received the vaccine, an entire theatrical device in the script for tormenting blue states would go away. Can’t have that.
What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?
I was the last in my extended family to get fully vaccinated, but have been so for about three weeks now and just got back from seeing an aunt and uncle (both roughly 80) and one of their three kids – my cousin – and then on to Michigan for a week with my parents (both pushing 80) and sister. It was the first time I’d seen any of them in person (except the cousin who I saw in early March of 2020) since New Year’s Day 2020. It felt really good to see people live in the flesh again.
Mike in NC
We all know Dr Fauci had to hire security to protect his family. I suspect their are Proud Boys and/or Oathkeepers who have put a price on his head, as well as several members of the GQP (Boebert, Greene, etc.) who want to take him out. Trump’s insurrectionists are plotting to do something big for the 4th of July. I sure hope the FBI is on its toes.
prufrock
@WaterGirl: The Grumpy tuxedo cat, thank you very much!
prufrock
@lee: I’ll give it a try, but my mom never got the hang of it and she’s 71.
I on the other hand can swallow horse tranquilizers if needed and always could. I think it’s because I hated (and still hate) lima beans. I’d eat them by swallowing them whole.
Sloane Ranger
I got my 2nd AstraZeneca shot here in the UK on 28 May. Can I play too? If so can I have those two gorgeous ducklings please?
Matt McIrvin
Last Thursday, I both hit my two-weeks-vaccinated mark, and got my kid her Pfizer shot #2, making her the last and youngest person among my New England or VA-MD relations to get vaccinated. (Rosie and Thurston for her, please!)
We went all the way to the vaccination site (a middle school in Lawrence) only to discover we’d forgotten her vaccination card, which the people there insisted on physically having, so we had to go home and get it. She was the last person at the site to be vaccinated that day, right before closing.
The following day, she went to school but then got chills and fatigue sufficient to call us to bring her home. She slept for 13 hours and was then fine.
WaterGirl
@lee: You are lucky to have had both of them in your life!
WaterGirl
@Sloane Ranger: Balloon Juice without borders! :-)
WaterGirl
@What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?: That’s great!
I will see my first family members in August.
Al Z.
I see a theme here… My youngest got her 2nd Pfizer Saturday – no symptoms, save a sore arm. Family is now fully vaccinated (well, in 2 weeks, technically). We plan on attending a baseball game on the 23rd before middle child is off to basic training at the end of the month (anxiety over this is building daily).
Felanius Kootea
We took our first cross-country trip in 14 months last weekend for a family member’s outdoor late evening wedding in Florida. All family members fully vaccinated. Pleasant surprises everywhere – everyone was masked and polite on the plane, most of the people we encountered in Miami were fully masked and when we went down the escalators to baggage claim, we were offered a free Johnson and Johnson vaccine right there at the airport by two very cheerful and friendly women! I thought offering vaccines to people getting off flights was genius. They were very happy when we said we’re fully vaccinated, don’t need the shot.
WaterGirl
@Al Z.: What, no stickers? :-)
TomatoQueen
I spent the past two weeks being respiratorily ill with enough side symptoms to panic over possible stray/magic exposure after it stopped being “just my allergies” on the second day; due to going outdoors for more than 15 minutes at a time each morning to call my boy Merlin (not a sausage). Today is the first day of no-cough. Nobody else in our bubble has had symptoms and we all have J & J. A bit eerie. OTOH I was delighted to be visited by a rep from the City of Alexandria VA Health Dept, on the hottest damn day of the year so far, going door to door in this enormous and heavily minority complex to talk to tenants about getting the vaccine. A good time to do this would’ve been 3 months ago, however Alexandria was shorted doses back then, so better late than not at all. And we were pleased to say “We’re all vaccinated!” and show our local stickers. Stickers are GOOD.
Peej01
I’ve been fully vaccinated since March, but now I’m getting phone calls from the Maryland Department of Health to get an appointment for my vaccination. I no longer live in Maryland but my cell phone has a MD exchange. I called to have them take me off their list, but it hasn’t worked yet.
Onkel Fritze
So, last time we’ve had one of these threads I was a bit peeved at the suggestion that most people already got their shots since I live in Colombia where we still have a long way to go. Turns out, just a day or two after that the Colombian government anounced that vaccinations would be open for everybody over 50, so me and my wife went on June 1st.
When we got there we had to give some basic information and were handed a sheet and a number. Then we had to wait for about 20 minutes and got called up to go to another waiting room. There we had to hand in the sheets and our IDs once again and they entered it into a computer. After about 10 minutes they called us up and we were led into the vaccination area. We fortunately got the Pfizer shot and not the Chinese stuff that about 60% of people here get. Since there are 6 shots in every phial of Pfizer, they took us in in groups of 6. Everybody was taking selfies when they got their shot. After that, we had the obligatory waiting period of 15 minutes and then we were out again. I had a bit of a sore arm in the night, my wife had no symptoms whatsoever.
Subject to availability, we will get our second shot on June 22nd and the first day of full protection two weeks after that will actually be my birthday!
WaterGirl
@TomatoQueen: Merlin still hasn’t come home? I am crying at the thought.
WaterGirl
@Onkel Fritze: I am so happy for you and for everyone in Colombia! Glad you were able to get Pfizer.
Have I been forgiven yet for my ignorance yet in suggesting that everyone already had their shots?
What stickers would you like?
Glidwrith
Daughter got her second Pfizer shot and the family is complete!
Two weeks and we’re going for ice cream at Belmont Park by her explicit request.
One last kitty cat sticker, if you please!
phdesmond

@Onkel Fritze: I wasn’t even finished reporting my own shots the first time there was such a suggestion, since vaccinations for the general public in Massachusetts began rather late.
(In hindsight, that was a good sign for Massachusetts: they were still rationing the doses because demand among higher-priority groups was robust, particularly senior citizens. It wasn’t that strong everywhere in the country.)
Onkel Fritze
@WaterGirl: Oh no, I heard stickers have a Bill Gates microchip for mindcontrol and shed DNA – no thanks sheeple.
Unless you have a dog – I’ll take anything with a dog.

For our 12 year old grandson who got his second shot last Thursday, I feel a chill sticker would be most appropriate. Now just our grand daughter, 8, is waiting patiently for her turn.
Thank you.
WaterGirl
@Onkel Fritze: That’s my Henry. He’s very happy for you.
FlyingToaster
13-year-old WarriorTeen got their 2nd Pfizer on Friday morning before Zoom school.
Severe arm pain before noon.
Fell asleep at 1.
Woke up at 7, and did the homework that was due at 1:30 (oops).
Went back to bed at 10, slept 12 straight hours to Saturday am. Slight arm pain, severe loginess. Napped all day, went to bed about 10, slept another 12 straight to Sunday am.
No arm pain, still really out of it. Napped all day, went to bed at 9.
Got up this morning at 7 and was alert, and ready for live school. In 95 degree heat.
Now ChezToaster is fully vaxxed, and will be immune before Father’s Day brunch!
The Hedgehog, and mRNA please!
Interrobang
I got my first dose on Saturday. Doug Ford really bungled the vaccine roll-out here, but now that things are underway, it’s working better. I got Moderna, and other than the usual “hurts to the touch” sore area on my arm that’s usual with injections while spastic, I am fine. Well, right now I’m so sleepy I’m almost faceplanting on my keyboard, but that’s not unusual for quarter to 5PM on a day when it’s really hot.
I’m really glad to be vaccinated. Maybe now I can go to my hometown to visit my parents. It’s been about two years since I’ve seen them, thanks to one thing and another.
WaterGirl
@Interrobang: Yay, you! What stickers would you like?
rikyrah
@phdesmond:
I’m listening to it right now :)

Congratulations to all — in US, Italy, GB, Colombia, Canada, and anywhere else — who have gotten shots and especially those who’ve been able to visit family again! I love these threads!

Second shot accomplished. More Green Balloons please!
Plus, Jefferson co WA has supposedly hit 72% so congrats and Good Job! to them.
Chris Johnson
Second shot, got! Moderna. The day after, I felt like absolute garbage, but it’s better now.
Odoroki is how I feel. I am THAT kitty, today.
