h/t mrmoshpotato for the awesome Olive & Mabel link! OLIVS FOTTOS – too funny!
I promised puppies & dogs day today, so here we are.
As a bonus, I will add the first 25 dog or puppy pictures to the post. Just write something about your canine friend and send me a pic, and I’ll at the pic to your comment.
I thought ‘Kittens’ Day yesterday was a grand success. So many awesome photos.
?
Betty is working on a post about happenings on the hills, and I’m guessing that that will be up soon, so there will be something for everyone.
WaterGirl
From Jackie:
My son’s irrepressible puppy, Griffey – named for my son’s favorite all time Mariners. When he’s chewed up something forbidden, this is the look he gives us; daring us to scold him. We do, but it’s hard to maintain a stern look and voice!
mrmoshpotato
This fits here – New Olive and Mabel
“Hello, Mr. President.” ?
zhena gogolia
@WaterGirl: Lovely ears and eyebrows!
WaterGirl
@zhena gogolia: Quite a handsome boy!
WaterGirl
@mrmoshpotato: That was too funny! I needed something for up top and I was sure something would present itself. And it did!
OLIVS FOTTOS – what a hoot!
Joseph S
Hi Watergirl,
I emailed you a photo of Socrates, our best boy. He most recently appeared on the 2021 Balloon Juice calendar, in September, as a four month old puppy. the calendar photo was taken when he was 4 months. He’s turned one year old on June 30.
piratedan
have sent along a pic of our very good boy Mochi, he’s an Eskinu… and he is on sentinel duty, managing the traffic flow of other canines and assorted cats throughout the domicile.
WaterGirl
From cope: This is Jesse last January, about a month after we adopted her from St. Croix. She is maybe 10 pounds in this picture. She is now about 30 pounds and gangly. They grow up so fast.
WaterGirl
@piratedan: Aren’t those cat shelves????
That’s awesome.
cope
@WaterGirl: Non-sensical post deleted.
mrmoshpotato
@WaterGirl: Excellent!
piratedan
@WaterGirl: yes they are and he’s a “nimble” little dude to say the least
WaterGirl
From SkyBluePink: This is Pony Girl.
She came to live with me from a local shelter a little over 3 months now after my last doggirl crossed the bridge.
She loves people and dogs and is good with the cats.
And, boy, does she love to run- hence the nickname Pony Girl.
She is a delight!
WaterGirl
@cope: If you send me a YouTube video, I could use it for an open thread sometime.
Old School
I was wondering what happened to Puppy Day. It’s already half over where I am, so hopefully the pictures start flowing in!
WaterGirl
@Old School: Sorry, I had a meeting at 9 and then ended up gardening for 3 hours. So puppy day was late! What time is it where you are?
WaterGirl
From Paul: “Please Dad, I want this.” Bernie and I wandered into a Porsche Fest right on our street a few weeks ago.
WaterGirl
From pika: Youngdog Sparrow on left in a rare mutual tug with Olddog Bumper on the right.
WaterGirl
From S:
We have two puppies now, Macy and Buffy.
I know you miss Charlie, but these two are adorable, and they surely fill the “doggie” hole, if not the “Charlie” hole.
WaterGirl
From OldDave: The three boys in the bin grew up (sort of) into these three hellions – Maxim, Oggie, and Dimo.
pika
Thank you for doing this WaterGirl–what a Friday boost!
mrmoshpotato
@WaterGirl: Is that a trio of wiener dogs?
WaterGirl
OldDave’s bonus puppy pic: our daughter’s whippet as a pup.
WaterGirl
@mrmoshpotato: It is! I bet they are a handful!
edit: And they all look so different, and you can see the different personalities. At least I think I can.
dmsilev
My parents’ new puppy, a toy poodle they’ve named Benji, arrived today. Ten weeks old and very cute!
WaterGirl
@pika: You are welcome! I thought we could all use a dose of animal energy this week.
WaterGirl
@dmsilev: There had better be a picture in my mailbox next time I check it. I’ll give you a one-minute head start.
OldDave
@mrmoshpotato:
They are – miniature(ish) longhairs. All brothers from the same litter. The second picture was taken on their second birthday; they are now seven years old.
Old School
@WaterGirl: A little after 2:00, but I’ve had work that needs to get done today, so perhaps a delay was for the best.
OldDave
@WaterGirl: Paul’s pup has good taste. :-)
dmsilev
@WaterGirl: I’ll send you a picture, but I’m not sure I have permission to publicly post anything, so please don’t put it in the thread. Sorry.
MoCaAce
@dmsilev:
You better get permission then!!!
What kind of monster teases us with 10-week old puppy pics then won’t show them!
WaterGirl
@dmsilev: Okay, no problem. You don’t need to send a photo. :-)
It’s still good news that they got a pup.
WaterGirl
We had way more cat photos yesterday. Does this mean that cats rule?
WaterGirl
From NicaKnit: I adopted Skai in February 2019 from a street dog rescue in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. We now spend most of our time at Lake Atitlán, and Skai loves to play at the lake’s edge, although she hasn’t screwed up enough courage to actually swim out on her own.
Mike in NC
My brother in Boston got a Golden Doodle recently, with tan and brown fur and green eyes. I found a book about them on Amazon and he’ll get it on Tuesday.
WaterGirl
@WaterGirl: Jesse is adorable.
@OldDave: I have never seen a whippet pup. Sweet.
eclare
@WaterGirl: That face on Skai!
WaterGirl
@Mike in NC: No pictures that you can share?
WaterGirl
@eclare: I know. That ones a heart breaker! Or heart stealer.
NicaKnit
I just sent in a pic of my pup Skai, whom I miss terribly. I’ve been traveling since early July (Houston-Toronto-Houston-Managua) and still have to spend a few days in Panama before getting back to Skai in Guatemala toward the end of October. In the meantime, she’s having a grand time hanging out at my friend’s house with a bunch of other dogs.
I love seeing all the pictures!
Eta: thanks for posting the pic and for the kind comments :)
raven
Lil Bit died a year ago today. She was the sweetest little thing with a laundry list of problems as long as your arm. I was working out and thought about what a long slog it was taking take of her and then Bohdi.
We never would have considered a pit mix and then we had the opportunity to adopt the horribly abused Artie who has turned out to also be the sweetest thing you could imagine. Kids line up in the morning to pet her on their way to school and she loves it,
raven
The Bohdi
NotMax
Aw, puppy!
;)
raven
@NotMax: We’ve been watching White Lotus and it sure looks like Maui and it is.
Steeplejack
@raven:
Good ol’ pooch Lil Bit! And that’s great news about Artie seeing the kids off to school.
And bonus Bohdi!
NotMax
Posted this here some time back but a revisit seems in order: silent
runningfrolicking.@raven
Four Seasons Resort in Wailea. Don’t subscribe to HBO so have never viewed it; presume it shows other parts of the island as well from time to time.
NicaKnit
@PirateDan What a nice shot of Mochi up on the shelf! Are those stools there for him to get perched on his own?
raven
@NotMax: Not much so far, they have stuck to the resort and a boat ride. It’s another HBO with a full cast of unlikeable people but it is funny.
MomSense
@raven:
That picture made me tear up. She won the lottery when she ended up with you.
raven
@MomSense: Which one, Artie?
Steeplejack
@raven:
Artie doesn’t look too huge. You might luck out on her eventual size?
WaterGirl
@raven: I cry every time I see that photo. It captures The Bohdi so perfectly, heart and soul. A beautiful dog in every way.
eclare
@raven: So cute!
cope
@WaterGirl: Gack…you’re quick to have read my query about videos before I knocked it down. I posted it before understanding the video was embedded in your title post. I should have known better. As for YT, I’ll have to give it a think. Thanks for replying to a defunct comment.
eclare
@raven: Mike White either wrote or directed (or both) White Lotus. Based on what I’ve seen of his earlier work, I would expect a very dark turn.
NotMax
@raven
Long-running (and addictive) Japanese TV series Hotel filmed their entire 1998 season at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental on Oahu. IIRC they didn’t go far afield of the hotel grounds either.
WaterGirl
@raven: I assumed The Bohdi, but maybe I am wrong.
Miki
@Joseph S: What a beautiful boy! My Spoo Days are behind me now, but they will forever be some of the best days in my life.
Moar pics, please. ?
NotMax
@raven
Guessing the show pretty much dances around masking regulations?
raven
@WaterGirl: Except the Bohdi was a he.
raven
@NotMax: yup
raven
@Steeplejack: She hasn’t gained any weight since we got her and it’s not because she’s not eating.
raven
@eclare: It starts with the jerk flying his dead hot wife home so it didn’t take long.
eclare
@Miki: Awww…never heard them called Spoos! Adorable.
raven
The Boolebark event is on but without the parade because the local gov has shut down all such events.
SAVE THE DATE!
Boo-le-Bark on the Boulevard is back!
Sunday, October 10, 2021
2:30: Registration Check-In
3:00: Costume Contest
4:00: End
WaterGirl
@raven: Oh, I didn’t catch the pronoun. Must be your new girl that MomSense was referring to, then.
Rachel Bakes
Puppies named after Jagermonsters in Girl Genius? I love it!
WaterGirl
@raven: If you want to submit Boo-le-Bark photos to On the Road, I can reserve the OTR spot for the following Monday for your submission. (Or any day that week.)
Just let me know.
Miki
@Joseph S: psssst. Here’s a preview of middle-aged Spoos.
Be forewarned – All Spoos eventually wear boas.
Miki
@piratedan: Of course! Love this pic.
Miki
@WaterGirl:
Those ears will stay clean forever.
raven
@WaterGirl: Oh, maybe so. I’m a little up in the air about putting Artie in that situation and, if I do, how much photography I’ll be doing. Le t me see what the boss lady says.
thx
Miki
@Miki: Wtf – this link needs purging. Trying again. https://flic.kr/p/h7UVi
piratedan
@NicaKnit: no, that is the cat tree hammock furniture. Mochi didn’t bother with reading the “for use” instructions…

I emailed a pic of my Löwchen Raleigh in – since it hasn’t bounced back, I’ll put this note here for WaterGirl to attach it to.
Raleigh started his life with me as a puppy and classroom assistant back when I was teaching family dog obedience and competition Rally. I keep him in the traditional lion cut, so though his head and front are extremely hairy, his hindquarters are sleek and shaved. As the picture shows, keeping his hair in order is a challenge – brushing half a dog is plenty! He was treated for parathyroid cancer at 10 years old, and every year since has been a bonus gift: he’s 14 now and I’m hoping for another year or more with his company.
WaterGirl
@Miki: I fixed the link in your original comment.
eclare
@Miki: I wondered about that!
Miki
@WaterGirl: I know – that Women’s March URL is sticking in unrelated photos. The link I wanted is in my later post. Sorry.
WaterGirl
From Laura Too: Laura sent an adorable video of her pup, Henry, howling, but I can’t embed that here, so instead we have a screen cap from the video.
Miki
@WaterGirl: Thank you!
WaterGirl
From JeffreyW: Here’s a favorite pic of Gabe. He is saying something is wrong outside and he should go check.
WG confession: I have kind of a crush on Gabe.
WaterGirl
From Cowgirl in the Sandi: Here are 2 pics of Indiana Jones – the first when he was a puppy with his brothers (he’s the one on the right)
…and the second in all his 70 pound glory now that he’s 7 years old.
eclare
@WaterGirl: Gotta keep an eye on things!
WaterGirl
From Roonieroo: I can’t believe I missed kitten day! Well here is my Isaac. He’s a typical lab in that something must be in his mouth at all times. Often it’s my shoe.
WaterGirl
@JeanneT: I don’t see an email about a dog named Raleigh.
I assume you sent it to my nym at balloon-juice.com ?
Roonieroo
@WaterGirl: Oh sorry, I forgot to put my nym on Isaac’s photo.
WaterGirl
@Roonieroo: Added!
WaterGirl
@WaterGirl: Isaac does not look particularly sorry.
Roonieroo
@WaterGirl: He never is. The happy part is that he has an extremely soft mouth. I still have his original puppy stuffed toys.
MomSense
@raven:
Sorry, had to get back to work. Yes, Artie. She looks so happy and that’s all on you and your bride.
Laura Too
@WaterGirl: Henry is 8, a Springbat (springer spaniel basset mix) that was going to the pound. My friend dropped him at our house for the night knowing he would never leave. He weighed about 12 pounds at 3 months old, way underweight. He was lethargic for the first week or so, lulling us in to a false sense of security. I had so hoped for a dog that didn’t counter surf-or at the very least had a smaller reach. Ah well, what do you do? :)
JeanneT
@WaterGirl: I think I did – but I’ll try again.
sab
@piratedan: That dog seems to think he is a cat. I have a bunch of both. I am not sure that I am comfortable with cross species behavior adaptations
ETA Showed that dog on a shelf to my husband. He laughed hysterically, then said “dogs should not sit on shelves.”
sab
My new to us pitbull has a mast cell tumor. Medically it is either no big deal or catastrophic. So now we wait. This little girl is going to be spoiled out of her mind in the next few weeks.
Being old ourselves, we only take on old dogs. That is the only responsible thing to do, but I am exhausted by watching new friends die. Four in five years (not all new, some we had as puppies 15 years, but two new)
OldDave
@Rachel Bakes: And color coordinated! (Dimo is wearing a green harness, etc)
eclare
@sab: How long have you had the new dog? I’m so sorry.
sab
@eclare:She was my step-daughter’s dog. About seven. We got her when landlady sold her rental house in July. She has been sleeping in my bed for two months. I have known her since she was a tiny puppy. But she has only been mine for a couple of months. She and I totally love each other.
eclare
@sab: All fingers, toes, and paws crossed here that it’s no big deal. She sounds like a sweetie.
WaterGirl
From Raven: Ralphie fishing with Raven in Mexico in 1972.
And again fishing at sunset at Sister Bay, Wisconsin 1978.
sab
@eclare: She is a total sweetie. Thank you.
WaterGirl
@WaterGirl: I love this photo of Gabe.
sab
@sab: Also too, it might not be as bad as I think it is. Then we have to unspoil her. Quite a project.
J R in WV
@sab:
Unspoil her? How dare you!!!
We’re on our last set of young dogs, going on 3 now, black with white blaze on the big boy, white freckles on the breast of the girl. They both want to be in bed with us, but it’s just a queen, so they have to take turns.
Booboo can sneak into bed at 3 or 4 am, snuggle for a while, sneaks back out. Some evenings I catch her at it, others I think she comes and goes with out anyone noticing. Real snuggely puppies.
1/4 great pyrenees, 1/4 lab, half Australian cattle dog… Sleek black dogs. Older white lab mix too, sweet big dog.
JeanneT
Yay! My picture of my dog is finally up (#76). Thank you WaterGirl for emailing me directly so I could get it in.
WaterGirl
@JeanneT: Raleigh is adorable! Well worth the effort. :-)
Joseph S
@Miki: thank you, don’t know if you will see this so late, but yours are so beautiful as well. Sorry to hear they have all crossed the rainbow bridge
