John, what should swimmers look out for? (paraphrased)
How about a big f-ing fin, for starters?

A bunch of people screaming and running in the other direction is a good sign, too.
And if you see Richard Deryfus hanging out with Roy Scheider, you might want to get out of there.

Also, you don’t want to be swimming if you see clouds of chum in the water.

I think there’s also this “bump bump BUMP bump” sound that you hear right before one attacks.

And stay out of the White House press pool

I remember seeing Jaws when it first came out. I was afraid to go in the water for months after that. The funny thing is that I lived in Colorado Springs at the time and the only water around was a lake.

Mike S,
I actually saw Jaws in Wildwood, New Jersey. I never understood why my dad took me and my sister to see that movie the first day of our summer vacation in a beach town, although it did make his life much easier since he didn’t have to watch us in the ocean, because we never went in.

LMAO!
Great punchline, John. Almost got a spit take here.

Actually, I don’t think any sharks skim the surface of the water like that, not even great whites. I’ll defer to any marine biologists, but I’m pretty sure of that.
The bum-BUM bum-BUM bum-BUM-bum-BUM-bum-BUM soundtrack happens with all tropical species, though.

Sidereal, I did see a tiger shark do that once.
(luckily, I was sitting on the deck of a boat at that time, or the cardiac arrest would’ve got me even if the shark hadn’t).

Reminds me of a Far Side cartoon where a couple of sharks are talking and one says something like, “the dorsal fin! How many times has that given us away?!?”
