Maody
oh dear, i missed my chance then. off to send a more pRon photo of Mao Mao.
morzer
OK. Which of you sick fucks sent in that picture of Mark Sanchez?
Svensker
Oh, that made me laugh. Is anyone going to own up to that critter?
JPL
This could be the best calendar ever!!
Svensker
@morzer:
OK, so that detente was VERY short.
Carrie
L0L, that puppeh’s winking at me.
Joseph Nobles
So February is taken then?
morzer
@Svensker:
But very sweet. We must do this again some time.
suzanne
Had I known, I would have sent in thispic of Luna instead.
morzer
@suzanne:
Careful with those pics, or Cole is never going to climb out of the whiskey barrel.
Svensker
@suzanne:
Oh my. LOL.
General Stuck
Great. A doggy porno thread
Loneoak
@General Stuck:
Quick, someone call Santorum!
scav
@suzanne: that thing has eyes!
Ripley
Throw in a horse and Carl Paladino will underwrite the whole thing.
arguingwithsignposts
Dammit, I was talked out of sending the Lady Smudge back-leg salute.
And since I assume this will function as an open thread, I’m announcing the opening of my new blog effort: AWS and The Somebody Listen to Music. Check it out, as there’s a link to some free good music from Canada already there.
morzer
@Ripley:
Does “underwrite” have a new porn meaning?
suzanne
@scav: She’s normally much more dignified. Really.
Josie
We used to have a cat that regularly assumed what the kids called his Michael Jackson pose. I wish I had a picture of that.

Cisco. My 5yo basenji boy. A rescue, the first day he came home I put him n the backyard to get to know his new big sister, Shiva, another basenji. 5 minutes later there is a knock at the front door. My neighbor is holding him in her arms. He had jumped the 5 foot fence, walked into her house and jumped on top of her kitchen counter to help himself to something to eat. It’s been like that ever since.
Here he is pictured backstage doing a little grooming. He is actually quite handsome and like most basenjis, vain. Please don’t tell him he’s on the front page. He’d be mortified.
monkeyboy
Back in Jan 1974 National Lampoon published Pethouse Magazine which was just like Penthouse Magazine except it featured pictures of naked pets.
[I can’t google up any of the photo spreads – sorry]
jl
Cole didn’t even black out the naughty bits this time. He’s turning into an unrepentant dirty middle aged man.
I was going to get one to give to my dear mother, I will have you know. Now what? A doggy porno calendar for Christmas? Horrors!
I guess I’ll go buy some damn fancy tea and scented soaps again.
Linda Featheringill
@Jewish Steel:
Link?
Restrung
@Jewish Steel:
awesome. he probably doesn’t need a beer, but I’d buy one on his behalf. For a good cause, that is.
Restrung
that pic is so dorky! Nominate for 12×12 glossy cover and web ads.
wormtown
that is really funny. I so love this blog.
jl
@Restrung: Well, yes that is true. There is dork factor that cancels out the naughty bits somewhat.
That could be a picture of me there, in my typical ‘reading Balloon Juice’ stance. Not a ‘wide stance’ mind you, just a stance.
And then there is the apparent gut. The dog is probably in good shape, and it’s just the perspective. If only I could say the same thing.
MattR
I guess I should add a pic of Ellie, though she is not quite the exhibithionist the others are.
morzer
I have a feeling that Cole is going to get a call from Ginni Thomas tomorrow…
Restrung
@jl:
Only people have naughty bits. We invented the words.
Maody
R’uh r’oh. It’s prehistoric!
Jewish Steel
@linda: Cisco does not have a website @ this time. He has a few youtube videos. I can’t link to them rt now, I’m @ work & using my phone. I think if you search “basenji squeaker” that will take you to a video of him disemboweling a stuffed toy and another one of him and his sister yodeling at gutter extension I was tormenting them with.
@restrung: he hates the smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke. Basenjis can be puritanical. Not me. I’ll have his beer for him.
@wormtown “Wow! He is really handsome!” said a local policeman. Whilst taking Cisco’s picture. For his mugshot (sorry mail-lady!) His nickname is ‘Bitey Baby.’
Restrung
@Maody:
Tortoises! How the fuck do they work?
jl
@Restrung: But I thought it was supposed to be a calendar for people. Well, good then, I need to get something for my uncle’s dogs.
Note to self: put BJ pet calendar back on Christmas list.
Restrung
but Cisco is the human network, no? now I’m confused.
Laura W.
@suzanne: Suzanne, forgive me as I’m bleary but check your email. I think I had trouble downloading Luna? I’m pretty sure I wrote you back.
SiubhanDuinne
@arguingwithsignposts #16:
Woa! By whom? Not by me — I think I may have been the one to ask for it in the first instance!
Actually, I was thinking the LSBLS photo would be great on the back cover of the BJ pet calendar. (“Buh-*bye*”)
aws, I cannot tell you how much I love that picture.

Here’s Cisco and Shiva in action.
Dee Loralei
LOL puppeh pron. I can’t wait to give this to my mom, though it’s too bad it’s not a 365 day calender she likes those for her grocery lists and other notes.
Are the animals names and their people going to be listed?
I’m kicking myself for not sending pics of my dogs or cats.
Has anyone watched the BBC show Luther? Is it any good? It has Idris Elba in it. Am I going to be hopelessly lost if I missed the first few episodes? Should I wait and Netflix it?
Auburn is #1 in the BCS, Oregon is #2. My Sooners are #8, so at least still in top 10. Boise State and TCU are still 3&4.
Of course they moved Alabama back into the top 10. But not Ohio State.
Karen
I sent my kitty, hopefully it’s not too late.
Maody
@Restrung: it was a farking snapping turtle that came up from the creek to lay her eggs and Mao found her, me shortly thereafter thank goodness. those fuckers move fast.
arguingwithsignposts
@SiubhanDuinne:
IIRC, a couple of others – JeffreyW and Suzanne – talked me into going with teh cute over teh BJ attitude.
And since the back-leg salute has been invoked, I’m going to be putting it to good use soon with a blog post about the fucking ridiculous pet fees all the major airlines are charging. ~$100/flight to bring a pet along? Shit, I could buy Lady Smudge a seat for that much, and it’s not like pets are taking up all that space – that’s just to put them under the seat in front of you. Assholes.
BGinCHI
Is that fucking Ann Coulter??
Yowza!
arguingwithsignposts
@Dee Loralei:
FSM, I hate the BCS.
ETA: It’s not too late, and from what Laura told me, no names will be used, although I think it would be nice to know the names of the pets, at least.
Dee Loralei
@Maody: I did a double take at Mao. thought for a moment she was a Kitler, but realized it was her chin and not under her nose LOL. Adorable cat. And that turtle looks humongulous.
Restrung
@arguingwithsignposts:
dargh. comment 404. But you’re on my “bar” already. (try atahualpa)
I’m going back now.
jeffreyw
Time to link to this all time favorite.
BGinCHI
@Dee Loralei: Watched the opener last night. Watching the second tonight.
I like it so far. Edgy, though so far nothing in the plot too unpredictable (cop over the edge, trying to be a good guy).
Good cast too.
Sherlock Holmes on PBS tonight too!!
Dee Loralei
@arguingwithsignposts: God I do too AWS. After OU lost last night my only consolation was that everyone else except for Boise State and TCU needed to loose at least another game and those still uindefeated needed to lose at least 2. And then as Boise State and TCU vied on the championship game maybe all those ADs and conference presidents would get off their butts and institute a real playoff system. And yes, they can even keep the bowl system in place too, either for the teams not playing in the playoffs so they can have big paydays or as a part of the play off system, since there are like 32 bowl games.
Edited to pat self on back for talking about the fucking BCS and not cussing once! ( Well, not in my original statement, so there. Lots of restraint I showed.)
Dee Loralei
@BGinCHI: Is this the new Sherlock Holmes? Damn I need to DVR that if it is.
ETA: Thanks for answering my question, so then I’ve only missed one ep, I’ll watch it tonight then.
Maody
@dee loralei – well, she is a bit of a kitler – half kitler anyway.
@jeffreyw – that is a crime. !!!
BGinCHI
@Dee Loralei: Yepper. Supposed to be VERY good. Watch for replays. They’ll show it a few times. Tonight is the premier then two more Sunday nights.
Dee Loralei
@jeffreyw: That cat looks positively stoned. How funny. I do hope your gorgeous Brittanys make the calender and adorable Homer too.
MattR
@Dee Loralei: Cut the regular season to 11 games, plus a conference championship. Then have a 16 team playoff with 10 automatic bids to conference winners. First round is right after the conference championship (which is when the conference championships currently are). Then you have the normal bowl process for all teams other than the final 8. ESPN can have their whole Capital One Bowl Week and it would finish with the four quarterfinal games on New Year’s Day (using the Capital One Bowl, Gator Bowl and two of the current BCS bowls). Seminfinals and finals follow the next two weeks (using the other two BCS bowls for the semis and one of the BCS bowls that had a quarterfinal also gets the national championship).
WaterGirl
@suzanne: I got lucky, I did send in a p0rn photo of my kitty, though I didn’t realize it was considered p0rn at the time.
arguingwithsignposts
@MattR:
In before bowl game defenders. FWIW, I also think they should do away with any sort of rankings until at least they get to the conference schedule. I mean, look at the pre-season rankings – what a joke. Sports polls are only surpassed by political pundits in their level of wrongheadedness before a down is played.
WaterGirl
@SiubhanDuinne: Uh oh, I think it might have been me.
WaterGirl
@Dee Loralei: It’s not too late to send pictures – deadline is tonight. I don’t know what anyone else thinks, but I watched Luther and I really liked it. You’ve only missed one episode, I’d start watching with the second episode tonight (and on again multiple times this week) and try to download the first one.

@arguingwithsignposts: I would love to follow this. If possible, could you make the RSS/comments work? Or, maybe you have a suggestion on how I’m doing it wrong. Thanks for the ref to the free album, I am currently downloading to give it a listen.

Sent several pics, can send more. I have LOTS more!

So we stopped by the new Charles Bukowski exhibit at the Huntington Library today and were a little surprised to see them using a picture of the notorious tough guy holding a squirming cat on the posters. This turned out to be Bukowski’s cat Manx, about whom he wrote this poem:
The History Of One Tough Motherfucker
Made me think of JMN and Eddie (thought Manx was a white cat of Tunch-like proportions), but I think it’s something all of us pet lovers will understand.
If you’re local, it’s a very interesting exhibit if, like me, you know very little about Bukowski, but it is very small so you’ll have to decide if it’s worth the drive and the $20 admission to the Huntington. We’re one town over and members, so it wasn’t a hard decision for us.
WaterGirl
@BGinCHI: What’s it called? I searched for sherlock holmes with no results.
Dee Loralei
@MattR: That’s perfect Matt, LOL you and AWS and I solved the BCS problems on a friggen blog. How hard can it be for the powers that be to do this? LOL but every time I think of the intractable nature of the football powers that be, (big time conferences, bowl committees and the ESPNers,) and trying to get a non-conference team into one of the big games, I always think of the Ned Beatty speech from Network.
Dee Loralei
@WaterGirl: It’s on PBS Masterpiece Theatre, it’s called Sherlock A Study in Pink.
E’d to clean up a damned typo.
Oh and thanks for the Luther info. It’s on the DVR. I didn’t submit my puppy pics because I don’t have any on this pc. But my aunt made me the most adorable baby book of their first year.
arguingwithsignposts
@David Fud:
Thanks, David. I have e-mailed the host about this issue. Never had a wordpress install that didn’t have the RSS feed baked in before. Will update when I get an answer. Cheers, and hope you enjoy the music.
BGinCHI
@Mnemosyne: Love the Huntington.
The Newberry needs a portal so that you can be in either library; I need to walk the H’ton grounds in the winter.
WaterGirl
@Dee Loralei: found it, thank you!
BGinCHI
@WaterGirl: Sherlock: A Study in Pink, is the first one.
But it’s part of Masterpiece Mystery, so search for that.

It’s the tongue. The picture wouldn’t be as salacious without the tongue sticking out just a little bit. Or JC just scared me on some weird level.
MattR
@Dee Loralei: The real problem is that the schools wont be willing to give up the money associated with the 12th game but they will never agree to a system that could have a team playing 12 regular season games, a conference championship and 4 playoff games. And IMO you don’t really fix the current problems if you limit the playoff to 8 teams. So even if they were willing (which they are not), I don’t think they could figure out a way to reconcile those issues. So, yay status quo.
Dee Loralei
@J. Michael Neal: Monster has some gorgeous gold eyes, they really stand out with the shiny black fur, another gorgeous animal, sir.
And Scav @74, thanks for that link since I didn’t start the dvr until 15 minutes into it, sigh.
Is this the one that was written or produced by the Dr Who writer? I vaguely remember John Rogers talking about it once. Rogers was thinking about updating it and then he realized that ??? was doing it so Rogers felt like he didn’t need to because he loved the guy doing it. (Completely blanking on his name. Ugh. I hate that.)
MattR
BTW, is that a bull terrier in the pic John posted up top? I met Spuds MacKenzie’s great great grandson on Friday and he had a very similar face.
Dee Loralei
@MattR: Yea but don’t you think if the only unbeaten teams at the end of a season are piddly EastBumFuck U and SouthofHell College that it might blow the entire thing up and the big boys will get all pouty and foot stompy and harrumphy and insist that it be NationalChampionship with an asterisk in all the record books and the tv people will be all hohumnoviewers and the general population will be all MEH, not gonnawatchnobodiesplaying. And then they might demand some changes to make it more “equitable”? (And by equitable I mean once again stacked to favor the bigboys? And then some congressman from some piddly district and a Senator from a state with more cows than people get all “cartels are bad and stuff.” And then we might, just might get a real playoff?
There’s also a problem that these guys are also ostensibly supposed to be students in the student athlete equation and Spring Semester is pretty much the only time they can devote to studies and playing into late Jan. would kinda hurt that appearance.
arguingwithsignposts
@Dee Loralei:
Div I players are such slackers. Div IA, II, and III have been playing playoffs for years. Suck it up, pansies!
Dee Loralei
@Dee Loralei: Steven Moffat, that’s the writer of Dr Who, sheesh bad memory!
Dee Loralei
@arguingwithsignposts: oh, I know that AWS. I’m just trying to remember all the various reasons over the years we’ve been told why the big boys can’t have a play off system. That’s why I suggested something with the bowl system already in place. Lots of those host communities derive lots of tourist monies and taxes from such events.
Wasn’t there one school that refused a bowl invite because it was during finals week?
arguingwithsignposts
@Dee Loralei:
IIRC from the previous BCS discussion, it was TCU. ‘Bama would never do that sort of thing. ‘Course, they wouldn’t be playing in a bowl during finals week anyway, no matter what their 5-7 record.
MattR
@Dee Loralei: I am rooting for that scenario as much as anyone, but I also think the result will be some minor changes that are supposed to fix things but actually re-entrench the big conferences. Something like a 4 team playoff or a “plus one” system where the national championship game matchup is determined after the bowls. But we won’t be getting a real playoff anytime soon.
As for the studies aspect, if you put the quarterfinals on New Year’s then you have 4 teams playing the next week and only two the week after that (though it might be cool to move the NCG to be the open weekend before the Super Bowl). And if anything, the players studies are disrupted far more by the games in November and early December which are the end of the semester, as opposed the start of the semester in January. But I am sure this will be brought up as an excuse for those who want to keep things the way they are.
Calliope Jane
@Dee Loralei: Steven Moffat? He’s doing this Sherlock Holmes?! *goes searching* Yes! Very cool. And Watson is an Afghan war vet. I like it (I remember John Rogers writing that the original Watson was a vet (also an Afghan war? that’s just sad) not some “foppish fuckwit in a bowler hat.” Love that. (And Watson is Martin Freeman! Definitely have to watch now.)
SiubhanDuinne
@J. Michael Neal #59: Awww. Monster and Eddie are both gorgeous! Cherish every minute (as I know you do).
General Stuck
This is off topic, but in a weird way not much, I think. I once was a devout fan of Pro football in this country, and as devoted a Browns fan as Cole is with his (cough) Steelers. But then, as everyone knows who follows the sport, especially long time Browns fans, the EVIL Art Modell moved the Cleveland team to Baltimore, and it broke my heart as it did many others who grew up idolizing Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly, and later Ozzie Newsome, and others.
I stopped following them after the Evil one took the team away, and have only caught a few games here and there. They have won some big games, rarely, over the past ten or so years, but mostly have been awful.
But today I saw the old Browns play, and not just that they won, but the old spark of wildness and aplomb came back, at least for this one game. The dawgs of the pound pulled shit out of their hats like the Kardiac Kids of the 80’s and early 90’s. And they made the big play when it was needed most. Maybe it was the kid QB Colt McCoy that brought the right chemistry, and maybe not and they will go back to being gawd awful. But today, the Browns of old were back.
Steeplejack
No football thread? Grandpa Favre is getting pummeled by the Packers. Tee-hee-hee.
Restrung
still in moderated limbo at ~72. still want to ask this:
Can a persian be a tortie?
arguingwithsignposts
@Steeplejack:
As long as Adrian is getting yards, Grandpa Favre can go … well, you know.
Steeplejack
@arguingwithsignposts:
Haven’t been watching the game. Just tuned in and saw the Vikings were behind after what looked like a Favre interception being returned for a touch. But now they have closed the gap to 28-24. And lots of time left.
Dee Loralei
@Calliope Jane: Yea, that’s the thread I was remembering. Rogers also said he’d thought to make Dr Watson a woman war vet. And maybe he mentioned making Holmes a woman also, not sure about that one. But when he found out Moffat was on it, Rogers decided Holmes was in great hands.
Stuck, I’m glad your Browns got their spark back. That’s kinda how I felt about the Sooners from the late 80’s thru most of the 90’s ocassionaly brilliant, often pedestrian and just so frustrating from their former glorious gridiron greatness. ( Yea, alliteration!) But damned if it didn’t re-spark my devotion to college football when they got their game back after Stoops ascended to the job.
So I hope your Browns got it and keep it because of McCoy, he was a damned fine college QB.
Steeplejack
Yet another Favre pick. Yee-haw!
Omnes Omnibus
@Steeplejack: But then Favre threw his third pick of the night….
Steeplejack
I don’t even care who wins this game. My only beef is with Favre and the whole “Will he or won’t he?” thing every season and the fact that he (deliberately) misses training camp and shows up unprepared to play, which means bad timing, no coordination with receivers and, duh, interceptions. Ugh!
Yeah, he’s a Hall of Fame quarterback, yadda-yadda-yadda, but he’s old and the whole “He’s a gunslinger but he loves the game” shtick drives me crazy. Rant over.
asiangrrlMN
I thought we had until Tuesday? Correct me if I’m wrong. I wanted to submit, but I am out of town until tomorrow.
ETA: Damn it. Favre wasn’t hurt bad enough to be kept out of the game. Grrrrrr.
SiubhanDuinne
@Restrung #74: I think it’s because you used the word AMBlENT, which embeds the name of a forbidden pharmaceutical.
Bill Murray
so is that pic at the top one of those pictures that Favre denies sending to Jenn Sterger?
Steeplejack
@Bill Murray:
The latest word is that they were intended for Favre’s wife but were intercepted.
Thanks, I’ll be here all week, tip your waitress, etc. . . .
WaterGirl
@asiangrrlMN: the deadline was on tuesday, oct 26 originally. On saturday they announced that it would be today (sunday) and explained that they moved up the deadline so the funds would get to the group in mid-december instead of mid- january. (it’s a cafe press timing thing)
I know you have some great photos of your kitties on your blog. What if you send them a link to your blog – I’ll bet they could drag/copy the photos to their desktop and include them that way.
asiangrrlMN
@WaterGirl: Ah. Got it. I will see what I can do now. Thanks!
Oh, and fuck Brett Favre with a rusty pitchfork.
morzer
@Steeplejack:

I refuse to let you waste a perfectly seasoned farm implement on that waste of protoplasm. My friend from Mississippi should feel such shame.
Steeplejack
@morzer:
Borscht Belt comedy is not pretty.
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: Yes. This is true. Argh. I am trying to figure out how to get pics of my kittehs to the BJ crew. They are on my desktop. I don’t have remote access on. I can do it through FB, but I’m not sure how Cole will feel about that. Oh well!
How you be?
suzanne
@josefina: Heh heh heh. She had actually just been spayed a week or so before, so that’s why she looks so nekkid in that picture. You’ll be pleased to know that the photos I sent for the calendar are very G-rated, and her fur has grown back in enough so that she’s not ***quite*** as immodest now. Heh.
I am damn pleased with my Scout (the cat) right now. She cornered a bark scorpion tonight, and it’s now dead and in the trash. GOOD KITTY!
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: They don’t happen to be on your phone do they? Then you could just e-mail to yourself and that would solve the issue.
Haz a new kitteh, she jumped up on my bed for the first time a few minutes ago and is now commanding attention. Pictures to come forthwith.
@suzanne: Have I ever mentioned I hate arachnids? I HATE ARACHNIDS!! Except lobsters and all biological sea cousins. Crawdads. Nom.
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: No. That would be too easy. I took them with my digital. I sent the FB links to them. With a different address than they have on file. We shall see.
Ooooooh! New kitteh! Can’t wait to see pics.
suzanne
@Yutsano: A new kitteh! Pictures, pleez!
Are scorpions arachnids? You know what, I don’t really give a fuck what they are as long as they stay the fuck away from me, the pets, and most especially the kiddos. Horrible, ungodly little bastards they are. I am very glad Scout stalked this little bastard into a corner where it was easy to dispatch from this mortal coil.
Yutsano
@suzanne: A-fucking-men to that. Went down to visit my friend in Arizona when we were still in college. As I was walking down to her bedroom I hear a WHACK on the stairwell wall. She had just killed one of the nasty beasties hanging out there. She then gave me the whole scorpion spiel. I didn’t sleep too well that night needless to say.
J. Michael Neal
@arguingwithsignposts: Eddie is doing fine. He likes his narcotics. I’d forgotten how much he drools when he’s drugged up. He is prone to drooling anyway, since he has a broken fang, but it gets all over when he’s high.
Monster is, indeed, very cute. She doesn’t realize it, but she is. (Unlike Dirk, who is extremely cute, and knows it damned well.) However, she’s also my bitch cat. Surly. Demanding of fealty. Sulky. She bullies Dirk, despite weighing about 40% of what he does.
It’s the interactions between Eddie and Monster that are the most amusing. Monster tries to pull rank on him and get him to move from a spot she’s suddenly decided she must lie down in. Eddie, who has no sense of territoriality or social hierarchy at all, looks at her like she’s the girl from The Exorcist. Finally, he gets up and strolls away, figuring that dangerous and unstable people are best left alone. It drives Monster crazy.
Cain
I’m sending in my pics now!! I was gone doing GOTV stuff and going to the mall. :P I have an excuse!
WaterGirl
@asiangrrlMN:Did you include your screen name in the subject of your message? That might help.
Also, I don’t use facebook, but if you have access to facebook while you’re on the road, could you save/drag the photos to the desktop wherever you are, and then send them another email with the photos attached?
WaterGirl
@Cain: I almost hate to ask, but has your kitty come home yet?
Edit: thanks for doing GOTV.
Edit 2: Just remembered that when I went to colorado to volunteer for the obama campaign, the whole first day I kept wondering what “Go TV” was… Once I figured it out, I felt like an idiot, of course, but at least I never asked anyone!
cs
@Calliope Jane:
In the original Doyle stories, Watson was not only a veteran of fighting in Afghanistan but was the survivor of a particularly horrible event. Dr. Watson was the only survivor of an ambush that wiped out the rest of his unit. He had to wander the wilderness full of enemies until he could find his way back to a British outpost.
Always thought that was a poignant detail to give to a character who mainly served as a foil and sometimes comic relief.
morzer
@cs:
Indeed – and it’s notorious that Watson’s war wound migrates from his shoulder to his leg!
asiangrrlMN
@J. Michael Neal: I’m glad Eddie is doing better. The pics of them are wonderful.
@WaterGirl: My email name includes part of my username. It’s not hard to figure out. FB–not so much. It’s the other way around (you upload from your files). But, I may try that….
@Cain: I was wondering about KitKat, too.
Joseph Nobles
Is there something in the water? Check out Ebert’s photo in need of a caption today…
J. Michael Neal
@cs: So, Dr. Watson is actually Harry Flashman?
asiangrrlMN
@WaterGirl: I took your suggestion and re-submitted the photos after downloading them. Thanks!
morzer
@J. Michael Neal:
Well, he did get through three wives by one count…
Mnemosyne
@Joseph Nobles:
Somewhere around here I have a book that has a hysterically funny story of the day the author’s dog ran away with her dildo … escaping from the house and running down the street with it, of course.
WaterGirl
@asiangrrlMN: Yah! It wouldn’t be a BJ calendar without your boys.
Yutsano
@Mnemosyne: Mine isn’t quite as bad, but one day my brother came home and found little pink pieces of rubber strewn all over the house. After further inspection, he found our black Lab Kasha holding a pink dildo in her mouth on my parents’ bed. She had chewed the thing to pieces. My brother diligently cleaned up the mess and never spoke to my parents about it. I doubt they have any idea what happened to it.

@morzer:
There’s a particularly good in joke about that in the first episode of the new series…
something fabulous
@Restrung: why not?
ETA: foiled by FYWP blockquotage, but you get the idea! more kinds at the link. Love the fancier-language: “Nose leather!” “Bracelets!” Adorbs.
Mnemosyne
@Restrung:
Yep. Tortoiseshell is a coat color, not a breed. If you think you have a Persian, look for the squished-in face and chunky body. Otherwise, your tortie could be one of the other kinds of long-haired cats that come in that coat pattern.

One theory from the Baker Street Irregulars is that Watson was wounded in his, ahem, lower back region (possibly whilst bending over to tend a wounded soldier), and the exact location was too embarrassing to bring up even in private between Victorian-era men…

@morzer:
Thanks. I remembered the ambush but forgot about the migratory wound.
I had never heard the theory that the wound was in a more sensitive region. Nice way to explain the inconsistency.

I seem to remember that Michael Chabon had an essay in which he discussed the various inconsistencies in the Sherlock Holmes stories. I don’t think the wound migrates because of embarrassment at its location. Conan Doyle could have kept it in Watson’s shoulder without any trouble at all. The fact people forget is that Conan Doyle genuinely hated Sherlock Holmes, wanted to stop writing about him – and couldn’t, because the public wanted more and more. He wrote the stories fast, pretty much threw them at the magazines that bought them, and hoped to be able to write something more lasting. The result was inconsistency, some very poor plotting in the later stories – and scads of cash and worldly glory.
lol
I’ve already seen all of Sherlock and it’s fantastic.
The bad: There’s only three episodes.
The good: More are coming next year.
