Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Let there be snark.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

We will not go back.

Republicans in disarray!

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

In after Baud. Damn.

Be a wild strawberry.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

Dana Milbank reports that Andrew Breitbart is an angry, angry man… with a book to sell. So I hoped for some much-needed slapstick comedy when Ken Layne at Wonkette posted on Saturday night:

KOCH INDUSTRIES
Breitbart-Palin Mob’s Next Target: Andrew Sullivan

America’s surly unemployed white mouse-clickers need a little direction here. What website needs to be boycotted next? It appears it is Andrew Sullivan’s “Daily Dish,” because he has committed the Crime of repeatedly writing in a Disrespectful Way about Saint Sarah Palin and her baby. Do these people realize Andrew’s site isn’t just a couple of bloggers, but is actually part of the Daily Beast and Newsweek? Do they have enough twitterers and mouse-clickers on the ‘puters to click every ad on a hundred years of Newsweek archives and send illiterate twats to every banner advertiser? Is Sarah Palin’s army of deluded fools ready to go to bat?…

Raising the question: Would “rooting for injuries” be the wrong response?

So… anybody got more dignified plans for their evening?

Isn’t the NYT supposed to be REAL journalist?

The Onion Fools The New York Times With Fake Obama Tiger Beat Cover

Today The New York Times admitted they made the mistake of treating a fake creation from The Onion as something legitimate. Last week the Times printed an article documenting the history of the squeaky-clean teen magazine Tiger Beat, and included a retrospective of past magazine covers. Unfortunately (or humorously depending on one’s perspective), in the collection they also included a parody cover created by The Onion, which featured President Obama.

Well, most of these reactionaries are somewhere on the spectrum between mentally unstable to clinically insane, so what did we expect?

So far, whenever the TeaGOPper Committee for Public Safety’s Revolutionary Tribunals have aimed outside their own, the results have fizzled. Sure some serious damage has been done, but it is isolated, and the population has not been aroused to the danger, and no mobs escorting tumbrels full of liberals through the streets.

So, the are frustrated and look for the internal enemies. So I believe that Bbart is turning on his fellow maniacs.

    But Sullivan? Now? Why?

Unless, maybe, the answer is to be found in unearthing some, now ancient and forgotten, Balloon Juice secret wisdom: that all weird stuff on the blogs is a Comrade Bolshevik Wobbly DougJ Hill spoof.

Assuming that Bbart is going after Sullivan, it will fizzle, since it seems so much like an Onion satire that most people will glance at the kerfluffle, emit a brief chuckle, assuming that this is some kind of ironic inside baseball political humor that they don’t quite get, and move on.

Say, you know how some Republicans don’t always act exactly in line with their professed beliefs? That just happens to be true of one Robert Watson, (Republican) Minority Leader of the Rhode Island House. He had said, earlier, that legislators are doing the right thing “if you are a Guatemalan gay man who likes to gamble and smokes marijuana.”

Well, it turns out he’s not living up to those fine, all-American sentiments. Has he been found out to be gay? No. Does he have a gambling problem? No. An undocumented Guatemalan housekeeper? No.

Instead, it seems he was busted with a bag of weed and a pot pipe.

Don’t know if this changes his mind on decriminalization.

    Dana Milbank:

[Bretibart] protested to the Daily Caller that Beck had stolen material from him, and he told the Daily Beast that Beck was trying to “appease” liberal critics.

    I’m not feeling appeased yet.

I am, however, kind of boggling at the extremes some people will resort to in the tightest inner curves of the purity spiral. How far right do you have to be to think Beck is appeasing liberals? Po’ Breitbart is circling closer and closer to the wingularity’s event horizon.

(I know that looks like a mixed metaphor what with the spirals and the horizons and the left/right lines, but it’s really not if you use a Hilbert space with enough dimensions.)

Maybe she didn’t like having so many people in her backyard – or perhaps she’s just had enough of her father’s bedtime stories. Either way, nine-year-old Sasha Obama looked the picture of misery as she listened to the president read out a story at the White House’s annual Easter Egg…

WEST: We need you to come in and lock shields, and strengthen up the men who are going to the fight for you. To let these other women know on the other side — these planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness — to let them know that we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow…deficits will continue to grow.

    @lamh34:

Isn’t the NYT supposed to be REAL journalist?

    Not really.

Almost as sickening as the atrocities themselves, however, is the way the release has been played in the New York Times, whose coverage of the document dump will set the tone for the American media and political establishments. The Times’ take is almost wholly devoted to showing how evil and dangerous a handful of the hundreds of Gitmo detainees were, and to justifying Barack Obama’s betrayal of his promises to close the concentration camp. … Taken together, the Times’ first “package” on the Gitmo documents is a breathtaking exercise in the Pravdazation of information in a putative democracy with a putative free press. The general thrust of the stories conforms almost entirely to the American elite’s accepted myth about Gitmo — and indeed, about all of the state’s crimes against humanity: that well-intentioned, good-hearted people did the best they could in a volatile situation. Mistakes were made, sure, and of course there were a few bad eggs here and there at the lower levels, and yeah, some officials were more competent than others, and things are in a bit of a mess, but still. When we erred, it was usually because we were too soft for our own good. And in any case, the intentions of our leaders and their minions are always noble and pure: to protect the security of the American people, and advance democracy throughout the world.

The point is that Palin is a pathological liar. Sullivan, bless his heart, can’t get over that anyone would take Palin’s word on anything, to include the color of the sky, where the sun rises in the morning, or the spelling of “and” and “or”.

Palin’s Trig stories don’t collectively make sense. Either she’s confused or she’s a pathological liar…or, far more likely, both.
