I adore horses and used to love horse racing, but I can’t watch anymore because I think about how drugged up those horses are and all the fun goes out of it.
Just sipping some reisling, waiting for the ribs, yams, and corn to roast on the grill. A salad to start and tiramisu to end. Beautiful evening here.

I wouldn’t even call that sloppy: that was a freakin’ lake!
I’ll have to catch the re-run of what exactly happened to Animal Planet’s jockey. Skerry.

On the train back from Belmont. Much more fun when it’s sunny. At the paddock before the race, two little boys were passing out Ruler On Ice buttons. We all politely took one and then laughed and made fun of the horse after the boys moved on. That’ll teach us. Who’s laughing now?

These people have been messing up the traffic in my neighborhood.

What a great horse Animal Kingdom is. I hope now they will put him back on the turf where he belongs!
gad, if you have ever blown the giant tablespoon of dirt out of a thoroughbreds eyes after one of these races in the slop, you would know how fuckin brave they are to keep running in it.
I only love turf racing now……less speed means fewer breakdowns and a longer racing life. If only we could have the English system here instead of this ridiculous dirt racing- all the same direction, no variation. Horses love grass, man…..
Hope you saved those buttons, haha

@shano: The Europeans have more turf racing because they have the climate for it- we don’t get enough rain. They have dirt racing, too, and unfortunately, horses can also break down on turf. It’s not a panacea. What’s really screwed racing is breeding taking over as being the more profitable end of it.
I actually think Animal Kingdom is better on the dirt than the turf. But I like that he can run on anything. He had a bad trip today- he clipped heels with another horse at the beginning of the race and had no shot after that. He’s a neat horse and I look forward to seeing him the rest of the year.
And yeah, I did save the Ruler on Ice button- to make up for not wagering on him. Never saw that one.

WV soap opera:
Made the NYT. The first time through, I just stared. The backstabbing was worse than the character issues it was over.
I turned on ESPN Radio to get the baseball scores and the announcer is talking to Mike Cavazza and saying that this is the craziest situation in college football and a disaster.
But John, best of all, I think you may be separated from Fantasy Cipher Guy now. With some help from shamayim, he can be told to sit in the corner.

Nicole, where do they have dirt racing in Europe? I cannot think of one track. and I love the steeplechasers and hurdlers…
Maybe one day they will have ultra safe synthetic tracks, but turf racing is far safer on good courses than most dirt racing. When the tracks have hills, or run clockwise, or in odd shapes other than the oval it makes the racing itself more tactical.

I predict the winner will be some rich fuck who owns a horse.

I just want all the horses (and jockeys) to finish the race healthy.
But rooting for Animal Kingdom.

Somebody mentioned Lindsey Lohan in the last thread and I just happened to be watching “The Parent Trap” remake with Lindsey Lohan.
Wow who would have thought that little red haired girl would become the semi-mess we know today?
Anyway, not for nothing but I love me some Dennis Quaid. Meg Ryan you fool!
