Yesterday’s post made me wonder who exactly soaks up these North Korean hero fables. Again via Steve Benen, now we know. Honestly, I dare DougJ or anybody else to write a spoof more embarrassing than John Hinderaker.

From the cited piece.
One needn’t read any further.
Excuse me. Conventional wisdom?
Six years of listening to this man speak has left a hundred million Americans convinced that the man can’t speak worth a damn. Not because they read it in the paper or heard a pundit say it …. places where conventional wisdom comes from. No, because they saw and heard it with their own eyes and ears, and they know crap when they hear it.
When fact becomes spinnable into “conventional wisdom” as if it were just some passing fancy, then the lie is on, and the bullshit is in.
It’s a fucking fact, not CW. Turning this national fuckup around starts with speaking plainly and calling spades, spades.
Something that might be useful here on these pages.

Beautiful post by Hinderaker. It was heartwarming. Really, I’m weepy.
This is the difference between the right and left sides of the blogosphere. On the right, we shower lavish praise on those who deserve it – the brave Jesus-appointed defenders of freedom and justice like George W Bush and Anton Scalia.
On the left, the only people the nutroots describe as “brave” and “inspiring” and “beautiful, with soft skin and full, kissable lips like Claudia Shiffer” are immoral heathens like Osama bin Laden, Ted Kennedy, and those lying scumbags at the associate press.
Also, they say the f-word a lot. How can you expect anyone to talk the nutroots seriously when they use the f-word so much?
Mac Buckets
Try the commenters on Benen’s site — they make Ppg look like Joe Lieberman.
It does sound a bit like somebody’s jealous of somebody else’s access!
Obviously, Hinderaker’s noting the difference between “speechmaking” (at which Bush obviously stinks) and speaking to a small group or individually (at which Bush, by most accounts, is very good).
chopper
a good comment from carpetbagger:
these are people that piss into empties in their own living rooms.
Mac Buckets
Come on — Ppg and Tim both let this line by Hinderaker slip by without a “wiretap” comment? I’m so disappointed!
ThymeZone
Perhaps he should be a real estate salesman, then?
Because we need, you know, a president.
ThymeZone
I’m not gonna read a lot of Assrocket unless somebody pays me a helluva lot more than I’m gettin’ here.
The Disenfranchised Voter
Well this post was funny until Mac Buckets showed up…
Ahh fuck it, the post is still hilarious.
For even the casual observer of politics, it is now easy to see that the Bush presidency will be remembered as a disater, for the US and the world in general.
Whether it be misguided foreign policy adventures or the daily shitting on our Constitution, this Administatration is hurting this country and it will not be forgotten.
The Disenfranchised Voter
bah!

demimondian
Really? That is not what I’ve heard from third parties who’ve met him recently. I could well be wrong, of course, given that my sources are politically suspect, but I wonder if that’s still true.
demimondian
Cursed anaphora!
*him => the President.

Let’s not forget it wasn’t too long ago (10 years) that Bush wasn’t a bumbling idiot that couldn’t talk his way through a press conference or debate. Go back and look at that 1994 Governor’s debate versus anything he does today, and there is definitely something different about the guy’s ability to speak.
Ancient Purple
Yeah. He’s just a real Svengali when it comes to those small groups and individual interactions.
Link.
Your leader of the free world.

Yeah, I noticed that myself. Maybe I wouldn’t have commented on wiretapping specifically, but just in general. It’s almost like it takes the fun out of pointing out totalitarianism for it to be so obvious. There’s no Sherlock Holmes-esque thrill, like David Neiwert might get by piecing together the connections between Minutemen and Stormfront; there’s not a whiff of a conspiracy theory like there is when one tries to discuss PNAC… there’s just a right-wing opinion leader, saying that persona of the president he deeply admires is “very much that of the big brother”.
To be fair, maybe Hinderaker is not a totalitarian in personality or political principles. Some other possibilities that come to mind: he’s never read 1984 or even noticed all the references to it in our culture, or he would recognize it if you pointed it out but he’s a blithering idiot not to make the connection on his own. Which is less unflattering? Or will reactionaries eventually try to make Hinderaker join Ann Coulter on the list of rabid attack poodles who almost everyone on the right listens to but supposedly no one takes seriously?

If blogsforbush is a spoof, it could take you up on that dare (over there, you will learn there is only one single, solitary issue on which Bush can be legitimately criticized: campaign finance reform. And that’s really more John McCain’s thing anyway). But I don’t think it’s a spoof, which is sort of sad and frightening.
Really, it’s bizarre to see grown men acting like children, digging in their heels and shouting, “Nuh-uh! Nuh-uh! I know you are, but what am I?” in the name of protecting somebody who is fairly disliked. The lengths to which they will go–“Bush doesn’t suck, he’s…uh…the second coming of Abe Lincoln! Yeah!–is rather astounding, but then again, it’s just a classic example of overcompensation.
chopper
if you like fart jokes, sure.
in fact, i’d go so far as to say he’s the cicero of fart jokes.
“It is a great thing to know our vices” {riiiiip}…
Mac Buckets
Benen writes:
Ummmmm, that’s not what I recall (I bet he still hasn’t washed that hand, btw). If only Monica hadn’t already been occupying that space below Clinton’s desk… This is the guy who fawningly wrote, regarding the unlikelihood of his wetdream of an endrun around the 22nd Amendment, “Look, I love Bill as much as anyone [way more than Hillary, right, Steve? –MB]… Yes, I miss Clinton too, but we’ve got to focus here, people.” Hang in there, Steve. Just hold on, one day at a time. It’ll be OK. Eat some chocolate.
Hey, Hinderaker didn’t write about how much he “loves” Bush. Where does Benen get off with his “fawning is unbecoming an adult” rap now? Is he just counting on his toadies conveniently forgetting his Bubba-love?
Crock Pot
Think something has happend to Bush’s ability to make a speech? These guys think so.
Dementia
Even supporters would have to admit this is a pretty good attack ad at minimum.
Mac Buckets
Between farting in front of new aides and asking them to touch your crooked dong, it makes me nostalgic for the sophisticated days of GHW Bush.
Tsulagi
Some of the retardocons like Hinderaker have a messianic love of little Bush. They’re like Moonies. Only difference is they think a spoiled brat preppy cheerleader coward from CT is their Jesus instead of a fat Korean.
SeesThroughIt
Why’s everybody so down on fart jokes? They’re fuckin’ funny, dammit!
Mac Buckets
Since John doesn’t seem to be around…
chopper
that’s fawning? ‘i miss clinton too, but’? sounds like you’re strainin’ to do some explainin’.
Pb
Ann Althouse has him beat–and published in The New York Times, no less. Shameful.
nyrev
Why so tense, ppg? It’s not like the guy’s expected to speak in front of large groups of people or represent us in front of the other countries or anything. Wait, what? He is? Fuck.
Well, look on the bright side. He must be due for another vacation pretty soon.

Speaking of Blogs for Bush, here Matt Margolis declares the real reason for the Marine involuntary recall:
http://www.blogsforbush.com/mt/archives/007724.html
There’s no reasoning given how democrats bashing the war has caused the need for more troops, but, hell, I’m sold. See this Jack Murtha? This is what your traitorous words have wrought. The lack of any comprehensive strategy isn’t causing us to lose the war in Iraq; no, our failure to win rests squarely on the shoulders of the New York Times and the Daily Kos.
The Disenfranchised Voter
Pravda eat your heart out. They couldn’t dream of setting up that story any better.
The only reason why Mac is pissed is because John Hinderaker is his biological father. Mac clearly has his pa’s intelligence…
The Disenfranchised Voter
After reading that, cd6, if Matt isn’t a doing parody, I sincerely pity the deluded fool
I mean it’s one thing to be a blind follower but shitttt…
Boy takes being brainwashed to a whole new level.
DougJ
Come on, Mac, no one who knows as much about Elvis Costello as you can fail to see the idiocy and delusion in what Assrocket says.

Not just blind followers, but deaf and dumb as well–the Republican party has become the Hellen Keller party.
John S.
Mac knows Assrocket is an idiot. He also knows that Bush’s policies are failures and that history is going to rape the guy he voted for – twice.
The thing is, guys like Mac and Darrell don’t care about any of that. All they care about is oneupsmanship and finding a way to stick it to the ‘liberals’ as often as they can so they don’t have to talk about the horror-show that their end of the political spectrum has turned into.
It’s like in a football game where one team is getting trounced. Fans of that team won’t blame their team for losing, rather, they will blame it on the refs, the weather, the other team’s fans – anything else, so that they can go home feeling good about their team even though they know what a disgrace they are.
They don’t call it political football for nothing.
Mac Buckets
Dude likes Bush, so dude will like what Bush has to say. Benen likes Clinton, so Benen will like what Clinton has to say.
I don’t see the big revelation here, except that Benen has the temerity (or the hypocrisy-induced blindness) to bust on someone else for his own vice.
Mac Buckets
Let’s see if John, the Global Village Idiot, can keep his “100% wrong, 100% of the time” record intact.
Nope, never read the guy.
So wrong in so many ways, keep going!
Yay! You are well and truly the 1972 Dolphins of Being Wrong.
John S.
Whatever you say, Mac.
We read your posts. We know what you think. All the glib little zingers in the world won’t cover up what is obvious to everyone. And when the best you can do is this:
You’re really not making a very good case, are you?
John S.
Although Mac does it make it terribly clear that he is entirely full of shit. How else can one square this:
With this:
He never read Hinderaker, and yet somehow manages to give his analysis on the man’s arguments. Fascinating.
The Other Steve
Could not have said it better myself.
I’m not surprised to Mac defending Assrocket, because he feels the very same way about Bush himself.
Perry Como
I’m almost confident that B4B is a spoof. They linked to Scrutator ffs.
ThymeZone
The troll would work better if you attached a big glazed donut to it, Mac. In my case, anyway. I love a donut.
Amen. A good fart joke is the best medicine for almost anything that ails ya.
I’m quite serious. Okay, who cut the cheese?
DougJ
Mac, you’ve become the cool friend with the awful girlfriend: you stand by Bush despite the fact that you know better. He must have one hell of a rack, politically speaking.
Mac Buckets
My lord, you really are retarded. Since you’re wrong 100% of the time, I thought you might just be “remedial reading” slow, but every time you hit “ENTER,” you seem to get dumber, to the point that now you’re a shortbus, tricycle helmet, and cork-on-the-fork Special Olympian (although, being a longtime volunteer for SO, I must say that you’re giving them a bad name).
I read the Benen post that Tim linked (you know, because some of us find that if we actually read the source material, we aren’t wrong 100% of the time, unlike others of us)– Benen excerpted that Hinderaker sentence. And as that’s one of the very few sentences that I’ve read of Hinderaker, I don’t “know that he’s an idiot” as you (wrongly — shocker!) alleged — or that his name is actually “Assrocket” (although I can understand why he changed it).
The Other Steve
Takes one to know one!
NYAH NYAH!
Mac Buckets
I haven’t defended anyone — I merely say that it’s evident that Benen feels the same way about Clinton that Hinderocket feels about Bush (well, maybe Benen’s “love” is stronger), so he should get off his high horse and recognize his own hypocrisy, instead of ignoring his own fawning to ridicule someone else.
Of course, you don’t get the point. You like Journey!
John S.
It’s ok, Mac.
Let out all that pent up hostility. It isn’t healthy to keep it all in. Just remember to keep hurling your insults at all us WRONG STUPID LIBERALS while your hero continues to fiddle while the Middle East burns.
And by the way, thanks for continuing to prove my point.
As always, I am humbled by your intellectual superiority.
Mac Buckets
Slow yer roll, hoss. I only said that Bush was evidently a good speaker in private, and I’m hardly the first to do that. I think my record is fairly clear — I back Bush on some things, and I don’t on others. He’s not my dream president by any standard.
Must I pretend like some of you that Bush always sucks at everything and is universally unappealing to everybody in every way (yet somehow managed to win the Presidency twice) in order to “wise up?” No sale. I think my views are more nuanced, because that’s how I rock ’em.
Mac Buckets
I always consider you self-humbling. That’s why I take it easy on you.
John S.
Based on the evidence you’ve gathered from all the times you’ve spoken to him in private? You’re probably not the first to assert this, just one of the first to make the claim based on no actual knowledge.
Your record? Are you running for office or something? I’m curious, though. What issues DON’T you support Bush on? I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure of reading your dissent.
John S.
Funny, I think the same of you. Both of us can’t be right, now can we?
I’d put it to a popular vote, but I wouldn’t want you running off to another Indigo Girls with tears in your eyes.
SeesThroughIt
I’ve entertained the notion many times, but I really do think they’re being sincere over there. It’s sort of fascinating in its own way: They’ll say some absurd shit completely unprovoked, and if you hit back at them, it gets even kookier and you end up plumbing the depths of paranoid delusion and cognitive dissonance. If it’s a spoof, it is maintained incredibly well.
jg
Pretend? You saying that most of us think Bush is great at his job but are pretending he isn’t because we hate him or something?
BTW you and Darrell have a very wingnutty way of stating your mind but doing so in a way that you can never be completely pinned to an opinion. You can always say ‘I never saud that’ when its so clearly what you said just not those words.
Good work man.
SeesThroughIt
OK, cd6, you just got another piece of ammo for your “blogsforbush is a spoof” argument: this post. That thing is about as Scrutator-licious as they come, and I’m really having a hard time taking it seriously. All the same Noonan’s not done yet–just wait until he gets tweaked a bit in the comments, then he’ll really start unleashing the crazy!

In February 2009 Bush will be setting up a new for-profit website, cuminmyeyespresidentbush.com, where guest ‘stars’ like Hinderaker, Hugh Hewitt, and the staff of the Weekly Standard will smile and ‘take one for the team’.
Jon H
“Hinderaker’s noting the difference between “speechmaking” (at which Bush obviously stinks) and speaking to a small group or individually (at which Bush, by most accounts, is very good).”
You mean like his asinine discourse on commute distances at dinner at the G8 summit?
I used to think Bush is qualified only for a job as a Wal-Mart greeter, but I’m not sure anymore. I think his mean streak would come through, and he’d greet people by saying “My daddy was President, what’d yours ever do?” and making up mean-spirited nicknames. “Hey fatty, welcome to Wal-Mart!”
