If they keep this up even the network newsheads are going to catch on.
If so, only six months later Blitzer and Gregory figure it out.

CNN is reporting the Dems have dropped the millionaire surtax to pay for the payroll tax cut and unemployment extensions. That probably means they will acquiesce to Republicans raising medicare costs.

@Hill Dweller: I tend to agree. The republicans are using vise grips and it works. Why should the repubs deal in good faith when they don’t have to. I wouldn’t mind retired folks who earn more than 200,000 a year paying more but I wouldn’t go lower than that.
BGinCHI
@JPL: Can the Dems counter with a raise in Medicare costs for those who make over 200K plus the millionaire tax? Why not both?
The revenue can go to a bigger payroll tax cut or be put against the deficit.
Time for the Dems to pull out the stops, since their ideas ans positions are polling WAY higher than the GOP. Only the media can fuck this narrative up and get it backwards.
Hill Dweller
@JPL: The Republicans’ bill starts raising rates at $85,000.
Apparently, the Republicans are planning to pass their version of the omnibus spending bill tomorrow, poison pills included, and leave town.
The Dems have to find a way to turn this into an advantage. It is blatantly obvious what is happening.

@Hill Dweller:
The House can go awol but can’t the President call them back if the Senate passes a bill?
El Cid
If Obama is anti-big business, why has Wall Street done so well?, By Wolf Blitzer, CNN.
Hill Dweller
@JPL: I’m not sure. There are some signs the House Republicans can’t pass their long term bill without help from the Dems. If so, that might be the only saving grace. But with Republicans resisting a short term continuing resolution, a shutdown might be inevitable.
Again, the Dems have to find a way to turn this into their favor.

According to George Will’s column today, Democrats and other “reactionary liberals” are actually all about SAVING social programs and existing institutions at all costs, which is why we hate capitalism (or something).

I think he picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

@El Cid: Even Blitzer gets it!

Bastards. How the GOP still manages to keep their idiot base believing their crap is incomprehensible.

I just opened a letter from my rep. tom price who wants to save Medicare.
Yes I will write him tomorrow and no I won’t call him a liar but I will point out that he might not have read his party’s bill which is a voucher system. I will point out that Medicare is not touched but instead it is Medicare Advantage which is a costly endeavor. Now I’m going to do some deep breathing to lower my blood pressure.

Whatever, asshole. We’ve seen what your “veto threats” are worth.

If you live in a republican district, open your mail from your representative. I want to know if Price’s letter is a copy and paste that all republicans are using.

Well, Tim it’s mainly because the Democrats are about as clear as mud on what they actually believe in to begin with and have voted for things that make the GOP’s claim true, in the very limited way that the Democrats have weakened the safety net and rarely actually support it. Of course, left unsaid: The Republicans are shameless and want to eliminate good things completely.
Chad
@Jay B.: @Jay B.: This very unfortunate fact is because the Democrats are always in a defensive crouch. I used to detest the cowardice but now I see that unlike the Republicans Democrats don’t have supporting bloc that is strictly partisan. On the right solidarity is emphasized whereas on the left you have folks who believe Democrats = Republicans, or Blue Dogs who believe the liberal wing = communism, with those in the middle being derisively chided as squishes.

Did a single Democrat stand up in the Senate and point this out? I thought not.
