Whenever I open BJ, I first look at the moderation filter, and clear anything that is not obviously spam. This morning, there were 18 messages in the filter. Usually, there’s two or three. I don’t know what is triggering, but I didn’t see anything that should have done it. Anyway, here’s a nice shiny open thread for you all to attempt to post and thereby refill the mod filter.
It’s 19* F here in OKC, and we’re expecting our first snow/winter storm here this weekend. That means ice over everything, power outages for parts of the state and closed schools for days on end. One flake hits this town and everything goes to hell. I also have the flu and have that generalized feeling that death would be a release.

FYWP, FTW!
WP sensed that the posters were thinking about mentioning ‘socia1ism’ or ‘specia1ists’ and took preemptive action, like Invading Poland or Iraq. Can’t be too careful, you know.
Yutsano
When did you move to Seattle? :)
Honestly, I want another big snow. Granted for the last one I was pretty much stuck in the house, but it was still kinda fun. I got paid for it. Also. Too.
Gretchen
Wherre’s OKC?
Gretchen
Duh, Oklahoma City?
cathyx
@Gretchen: It stands for the OK Coral. Right?
Villago Delenda Est
@Gretchen:
Oklahoma City, where the Seattle Supersonics high tailed it to.
(sorry Yutsano, had to be pointed out…)

I think one of those comments in moderation was mine. I gave a link about the Mitt Condom for elite men. I guess condom talk is a no no.

The edit button seems to have, in the word of Pavel Chekov, “wanished” again.

65 degrees and sunny here in the high desert. Been that way for a while now. If we make it through this month without winter returning, then it will be spring.
cathyx
@Villago Delenda Est: It hasn’t vanished for me. But maybe I need it more than you.
Nicole
Thanks for mentioning the spam filter. I have a post awaiting moderation in the thread on Breitbart, and I didn’t hide a male sex drug inside the name of an economic system or anything.
Oooohhhh- you know what? I used the term, “blackjack” as in, “to whap over the head” but I wonder if WP thought I was suggesting the card game. Violence, okay. Gambling, bad.
Svensker
I think it was JCs thread about his use/disuse of certain medications and then when people talked about certain other medications, they got sent to purgatory.
That’s my theory and I’m stickin to it.
Nicole
And I don’t know why I thought putting bl*ckj*ck in quotes would solve my problem. Now I have a second comment in moderation. Sorry.
Some days I’m just not smart.
Yutsano
@Villago Delenda Est: The Sonics died. But at least Seattle said they couldn’t have the name. We’re not getting basketball back any time soon either.
mistermix ... World Peace
Strange how the South is having a worse winter than the elites in their enclaves. I blame the Tea Party.

Got a couple french loaves rising, waiting to make my move. There’s an ice fishing tournament going down in the area but the smart money says it’s more satisfying being warm and cozy rather than standing around on the ice with about 40,000 other nitwits.
RossInDetroit
Sorry to hear you’re sick. Bright side: get it out of the way in the winter!
We just got 2″ of snow last night. That’s the most all year, and only the second shovelable snowfall of the winter.
I’m sure this has been caused by climate scientists telling lies somewhere.
West of the Cascades
HA HA IT’S COLD IN OKLAHOMA GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX AL GORE IS FAT.
Damn I have to stop clicking on clips of Andrew Breitbart screaming nonsense. It’s infectious.

@cathyx:
Ah, it’s just me. Very slow loads due to running a game patch in the background, also ads suck when they take forever to load.
In the words of Emily Lettella, “never mind”.

Kind of wondering why Yahoo newsfeed has such a Republican slant? Anyone know? The other day when the Repugs wanted to cut 30 weeks off unemployment benefits, the Yahoo News headline was that Democrats suggest cutting benefits by six weeks….no mention of the Republican’s original proposal or that this was a counterproposal. It’s not the first time. I see this all the time. What’s the deal?
Veritas
I guess you could use some global warming, huh?
Europe could too. They’re have a RECORD cold winter, and its snowing in Rome.
Even German Socialist Fritz Vahrenholt now says he feels “duped” about Global Warming.

@West of the Cascades:
Seriously, has it become the new Hitler Reacts To footage?
Soonergrunt
@Gretchen: @Gretchen: Yep. OKC=Oklahoma City.
@West of the Cascades: Last summer, with its record highs for a record stretch here–68 days straight over 100* and 20 over 110* was cause for bumper stickers on cars that said “OK AL GORE, WE GET IT NOW.”
Omnes Omnibus
Had drinks and dinner and drinks with a college buddy and his girlfriend last night. Awesome dinner. Great time. Fun was had.

@Veritas:
Because weather = climate? That’s the only explanation for what you’re saying.
And it’s stupid.

@Veritas: Answered at #22 and in the body of the top post, wherein I stated we’re expecting our first snow/winter storm here this weekend, yeah, anybody with two braincells knows, even here, that Al Gore and the Climate Scientists were right you stupid motherfucker. The record highs in the upper sixties and upper 70s in December and January are also a dead giveaway, but that’s because I’m not dumber than bag of hammers.
Veritas
@RossInDetroit:
Weather is only climate to a Warmsit if its a hurricane or a record heatwave. If it’s record cold and snow, then it’s just weather and no big deal. Or “GLOBAL WARMING PREDICTED THIS ALL ALONG!!!! ITS PART OF THE MODELS!!
Which, you know, is bullshit. Warmists were telling us in panicked voices as recently as 2000 that snowfalls in Europe would be “a thing of the past” because of Global Warming.
PurpleGirl
Not sure what the temperature outside is; inside my living room it’s 78*F. We’ve had a little snow. It didn’t stick on the terrace or our sidewalks but it did stick on the ground of the cemetery across the street. So far the NYC winter has been warmer and milder than normal.
Had trouble sleeping last night so my whole day is pear-shaped and messed up.
Looking forward to tomorrow folks.
Judas Escargot
Boston area was supposed to have 3-6″ of snow today, but apparently the storm changed track overnight, so yet another false alarm.
Once I finish my laundry and get some more wood for the woodstove, Skyrim calls…
Nicole
@PurpleGirl:
Me too! It’ll be nice to see you again.
It’s in the low 60s in our apartment. The new landlords aren’t as determined to bake us as our former ones were.
I’m shuffling my lazy self off to the gym. Sigh.
Linda Featheringill
@PurpleGirl:
Perhaps you could hibernate today?

BGinCHI
Cold as hell here in the home of what locally we just call “politics.”
Wind chill is one precious degree.
We spent a nice night in OKC a couple of years ago when we drove to Santa Fe to spend Xmas without any family. Good restaurant and some nice cafes. Looks like a small city that’s trying.
beltane
@efgoldman: I’m in northern VT and they had to cancel my son’s cross-country ski program because there isn’t enough snow. It was supposed to be cold this weekend but right now it’s sunny and 40 degrees.

@Nicole:
FYWP knows nothing of context. Use “p*ssy” to refer to your cat, as I have done, and you’ll still get moderaterated. A “t*ble” is only ever a venue for games of chance, never for meals. And so on.
RossInDetroit
@Veritas:
So events from 2012 invalidate arguments made ‘as recently as 2000’. How terribly relevant and significant.

Alarmists and wrong predictions are not the same thing as refutation. But hey, thanks for playing.

@efgoldman: They get that footage ready, they’ve got to use it.
It’s been really good for municipal budgets, but lousy for all those landscaping guys who’ve had no snow to plow.

Skipped golf today. Kind of cold and overcast, with a possibility of rain showers. Not that that would normally stop me. We had two marvelous days of beautiful weather Thursday and Friday (SoCal, eat your hearts out) so I finished (almost) cutting down the bougenvillia along my drive way. What a monster. After two days my back is stiff and sore; no way I can swing a golf club. This getting old crap is, well, crap.
PurpleGirl
@efgoldman: Yeah, NYC had those weather stories too — all about how the Sanitation Department had the garbage trunks ready with snow plows and salt spreaders ready and the sanitation workers on high alert, etc. And the snow fall fizzled.
Redshift
@RossInDetroit:
Arguments made in a popular press quote paraphrasing a climate scientist, no less — note that’s the only reference to “a few years” in the article. But as we have been told repeatedly by deniers, an article in Time from the 70s is proof that “these same scientists” were predicting global cooling not long ago.

@Veritas:
Do you denounce the Republican Party’s openly stated belief that the world will literally end within our lifetimes, or are you just another Christianist patsy?
P.S. Cold weather doesn’t count because the cities haven’t reported in yet. I’m not sure what exactly this excuse is supposed to mean, but it was certainly good enough for you when you were sobbing and shitting yourself and screaming it over and over again as your “models” failed last Tuesday.
PurpleGirl
@Linda Featheringill: Probably not the context you meant but I am hibernating today — trying to get back into my routine and get some work done around the apartment.
ETA: I’m trying to get my yarn stash into storage bags and organized this weekend.
Suffern ACE
@efgoldman: We’ve had so little rain or snow since the freak October storm, that i wonder if we’d be hearing about a drought if it weren’t winter (since in the news, droughts only matter when it’s hot).

So is Google suffering any major backlash for supporting CPAC this year? If anyone deserves an SGK level shitstorm it’s them.

@Redshift:
The link about Viner does raise a semi-good point. This guy is associated with the bogus Climategate memos, so he is a favorite whipping boy for climate change deniers. Also, he seems to be stuck like a broken record on his “no snow claims,” even though more data and better science keeps adding more nuance to his simple minded stuff.
Worse, he heads up a multi-million dollar UK program to educate people on climate change. It doesn’t help when you don’t have the best people explaining a complex and contentious topic.
pragmatism
@BGinCHI: I was pleasantly surprised with okc. The city has done a great job and the people have made some sane choices to make it work.
pragmatism
Also too in the 60’s and nice here. Getting my money’s worth on the sunshine tax. Watched spurs demolish Newcastle and went to the park with the dogs and kid. Nice little Saturday. Maybe some home depot. If I have time.

People, people. Don’t forget that Veritas is the guy who assured us that the Romneytron would take both Minnesota and Colorado last Tuesday, and we could take that prediction to the bank.
The bank, of course, would laugh you back out of the lobby into the street, but you could take his predictions to it.

Bah, SoonerGrunt, it’s like you’re new here or something. We’ve had plenty of winter here in my lifetime, including the ice storms of 10 and 6 years ago. We have snow plows, snow routes, and general experience with all forms of weather.
You want a city that shuts down with one flake of snow? You want Dallas.
BTW, type “d#101;#103” to get the degrees symbol. You can use HTML entities in WP comments because they’re not markup—they’re just characters.

@PurpleGirl:
I have found the greatest yarn storage solution of all time: Ziploc Flexible Totes. They come in XL and XXL. You put two XL totes into one XXL. The XL totes each hold about as much yarn as the XXL Big Bags I used to use, and you can actually get to your yarn without having to empty the whole bag.
Amazon is probably the best place to get them since you can buy a 3-pack of the XL totes.

@pragmatism: You see that Barcelona match today??
Mnemosyne
@PurpleGirl:
The space bags never worked for me — they rip way too easily, even without curious cats tramping on top of them. Plus they seemed to re-inflate and have to be re-vacuumed every couple of weeks, so I gave up on them.
