Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

The words do not have to be perfect.

All hail the time of the bunny!

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

How stupid are these people?

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

This blog will pay for itself.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Stand up, dammit!

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Let me know when there’s a gathering near Poughkeepsie.

Have said it several times, but I know there are several BJers in the ‘tristate area’ (Southern Indiana, Southern Ohio, Northern KY), including yours truly.

Would be nice if Zandar and/or Kay could set up one of these for Cinncinatti area some time. Any other people in the area agree with me?

Hope the Seattle one is lots of fun.

    @Paul in KY:
You don’t really need Zandar or Kay to do it. If you can get a couple of people to agree to a date you’ve got a start.

If you have a set time and place I’ll post that on meetjuicers, or if you have three people in an area that want to have a meeting but need to argue (and you wouldn’t be liberals if you didn’t need to argue) I’ll put up a thread for that.

@MikeJ: To me, it wouldn’t be an ‘official’ meet-up without a front pager.

I’m pretty sure the other ones I read about all are organized by a front pager.

Also, although I am geographically close, I don’t know of any good bars/restaurants in the Cinn. area, as I generally only go there to go to Jungle Jims or Riverbend Music Center.

@Paul in KY: The Seattle meetup was Yutsy saying, “hey, lets have a meetup.” I put up the meetjuicers site and presto.

The coördinating works better if you’ve got some stable place to point people at rather than just “we’ll run into each other in the comments”. The first time we did this we used SoBeale’s post on her blog because it was timed to meet her.

@MikeJ: What is a ‘meetjuicers’ site? Is it Facebook related, because I do not do Facebook.

@Paul in KY: It’s a site I put up to facilitate meetups with balloon juice people. It’s the link in the post. Just thrown up on a free hosting place.

@MikeJ: Thank you for your info, Mike. If I can see some other potential attendees (who are more familiar with Cinn. & can recommend a good meet-up spot) post something in this thread saying they would be interested, I will pick a date & have you do this meetjuicers thing.

I’m guessing you are not in the Tri-State area yourself.

@Paul in KY: I’d show up if Zandar set up a Cincinnati meet )and would even happily debate suggest locations) It would be teh awesome if Kay could make it down, though it’s a looong drive for her.

@Paul in KY: I’m in! And do have some ideas about where, which are varied and would depend on where it’s easiest for majority to get, etc.

@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q): Great! I do think it would be best if a front pager (Zandar, cough) could come. Need more than me & you, IMO (although I would look forward to meeting you, as I like your comments).

How many do you think we need at a minimum to do it? 5, maybe?

Have fun, you wild and crazy West Coast fools. I don’t know how you guys survive out there, what with the sun rising on the wrong side and all those trees at the wrong height.

    @Linnaeus:

Friday Harbor = so beautiful! Sailed in there for the day once while in the middle of a 2 month sailing trip around the sound (yes, I’m bragging). Great place to chill for a while, even if you don’t get to come boozing with the lurkers. :D

Leaving work, as I’m sick & UK is playing. Will check thread on Mon morn to see if any other tr-staters evidenced any interest.

Hope the Seattlers have a great time!

JS: my surgey convalescence ends June 27th, so I may or may not be around. Either way, we could get something organized. SoBeale got this whole thing started by visiting after all! :)
