Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Artists in Our Midst

I just got my prints that I ordered from the last time we had one of these (I got two nice pictures from 30fps), have them all framed up and hanging in my home office. They really look sharp.

At any rate, been a while since we had one of these, so I thought I would put another one up. If you are an artist and have wares for sale or stuff you just want to share, throw it in the comments section. Who knows- someone might be looking for what you have to offer.

Also, don’t worry if you go into the spam filter, there is no need to post twenty times. I’ll check in every hour or so and clear you out.

Friday Night Open Thread

We need some pets. This little fellow was sent in recently, and the owner thinks he sees a little Lily in him. I agree:

jojo

And this lucky lady was just recently adopted, and according to the owner, he had resisted getting a dog for years until the Lily stories made him change his mind:

daisy

I’ll gladly take credit for that.

BTW, not sure how many of you read Cleek, but he has had some great photography lately. Just scroll.

*** Update **

New Monk tonight.

Just What We Needed

by John Cole|  August 7, 20096:38 pm| 138 Comments

As if the health care debate was not already stupid enough, America’s dumbest quitter chimes in:

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Every time Sarah Palin opens her mouth I think of the old joke country song- “How Can I Miss You If You Won’t Go Away.” I’m seriously ready for our Chinese overlords to take over. We’re just too stupid a country to function.

Euthanizing old people

I’ve always regarded the vaccine-autism theories as the ne plus ultra of crazy medical rumors. But I think the idea that the government will euthanize old people as part of the health care reform package far surpasses it.

Is this bias on my part, as a liberal? (The vaccine-autism stuff seems to have more traction among liberals, while the euthanizing old people stuff is believed exclusively by conservatives.)

Thursday Night Open Thread

I picked up Leverage last week after I asked about it, and I’ve watched the first couple of episodes and I like the show a lot. In fact, I might watch an episode or two tonight.

Also, I am going to go through the site redesign open thread and pull out your comments and see where we are going to go with this, and I expect to pass on the request to the designer tomorrow. Depending on schedules, that means things might happen this weekend.

And finally, puppies:

frickandfrack

I have no idea why Lily lies like that, but she does a lot. Must be comfortable, although I don’t recall seeing other dogs lie like that.

Is It Just Me?

i-see-stupid-people

Is it just me, or does everything just seem stupider than normal this August recess? Between Mouthpiece Theater and the Atlantic phoning it in and Alessandra Stanley making a mistake every sentence and morons getting caught while taking a luxurious stroll through Iraq and wingnuts threatening congressmen because they are trying to reform health care and congressmen whinging about empathy and racist latinas on and on and on, it just seems like everything is dumber this summer.

And I say that knowing full well that last August brought us Sarah Palin. Times like this, there really is only one thing that can cheer me up:

goinggalt1

I feel better.
