Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

We do not need to pander to people who do not like what we stand for.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

It’s possible to be a liberal firebrand without crapping on the party.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

We’ve got intelligence and humor. And Dark Brandon!  Plus we can spell.  What have they got? (Besides their miserable existence, and hate.)

Oh, right.  Trump is going to host a fundraiser at MAL for the Legal Defense Fund of his apparent friend and soulmate Tim Ballard, who is being sued by multiple women for sexual assault.  You can’t make this stuff up!  (Do we think this is why the earthquake hit?)

It’s a scratch and sniff book. https://t.co/TCCgNfWrNA

.

I’m sure him selling Bibles for profit and then God setting off an earthquake at his golf course are entirely unrelated events.

Wait so you’re telling me the epicenter of the New York City earthquake was…Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster?? pic.twitter.com/uH5uBTnfc6

I’m waiting for the trump filing asking for an earthquake delay in the election interference hush money trial.

My first thought on reading about this.  Holy shit, Pennsylvania!

Under my plan, Pennsylvania families who make up to $70,000 will pay no more than $1,000 in tuition and fees per semester at state-owned universities and community colleges.

$1,000.

That’s how we make higher ed accessible and affordable.

— Governor Josh Shapiro (@GovernorShapiro) March 9, 2024

So here’s my question to PA peeps.  Is this a pie-in-the-sky thing that Gov. Shapiro is saying he’d like to do – in the state equivalent of the State of the Union?  Or is he actually trying to make this happen?

If Republicans had to take a vote on this, and vote against it, could this proposal provide an opportunity for Dems to get a majority in both chambers in PA in November?  Or is that totally out of reach?

Also, totally unrelated.  Holy cow-ski, did everyone see this great news?  $Endorsements all around – Latino, Asian American, black communities – and $30 million dollars.

This is HUGE: The Latino Victory Fund, AAPI Victory Fund, AND Collective PAC—the largest groups representing the Latino, Asian American & Black communities—have announced they are endorsing President Biden & VP Harris & investing $30 million to mobilize those voters. Amazing news

— Victor Shi (@Victorshi2020) March 9, 2024

Also unrelated.  All over the thread last night in the comments, but so great that it deserves the front page.

Not only did Biden crush the State of the Union speech last night, but I’m sure it crushed the pathetic souls on the right, or at least whatever they have left of what was once a soul.

But my real crush is on Jared Moskowitz.  If he is not the one behind all of his fun posts, I don’t want to know.

With your help, we can save another Republican from having to deliver a State of the Union response. pic.twitter.com/gHEf0iCQnk

This short clip made my afternoon.  Which is good, because just moments before seeing this I had come to the realization that there won’t be any big news from the Jack Smith court cases for a very long time, at least nothing of the good variety, which was not a happy thought.

I may just watch this again.

Alina Habba: Fuck You, Oh Wait, Can You Help Us Out Here? (Open Thread)

Trump’s attorneys have built up so much good will with the judges in the Trump cases, I can totally see why their first thought is to ask the judge to buy them some more time to get it together.

I hope I’m right about how this is going to turn out for them.

My first laugh of the day.

In a new letter tonight, Alina Habba is asking Judge Lew Kaplan — who has yet to rule on Trump’s request to stay enforcement of the $83.3 million E. Jean Carroll judgment as his post-trial motions are resolved — for some mercy. 1/

— Lisa Rubin (@lawofruby) March 6, 2024

.

What does this mean? Trump could be having difficulty arranging for a bond of $91-plus million, which is what will be required to cover the judgment and interest. 3/

— Lisa Rubin (@lawofruby) March 6, 2024

.

—and expecting that Kaplan will deny his request for a longer stay, he is trying to buy himself time to obtain one or free up sufficient cash. FIN.

— Lisa Rubin (@lawofruby) March 6, 2024
